This is what pianomusic is all about. Goosepimples from A to Z. David Helfgott knew ,felt and lived with it and lost his sanity for it! How far can annyone go? "Chapeau">
I have been playing since 5 years old. I play blind folded and in the dark. I have taken on many challenges. This song is like learning and translating another language then saying it with feeling. I find that 7 years of law school and the bar exam is easier than translating and playing this piece. I would like to do it, but once into it I would want to be committed to it.
Of course I know what I'm talking about: I listened. The video above is not a good performance. Every member of the orchestra including the conductor were sweating bullets to get through that. Helfgott is paraded around as a novelty item because of his mental health difficulties. Next time when you are commenting, explain why you disagree with someone instead of trolling because all I can surmise is that you do not know how to communicate. You are the literary equivalent of David Helfgott.
Not too many people would sit and watch parolympics, just like not many with trained ears would sit and listen to him play. It was as much a torture to the orchestra member as to anyone who hears it, there was no way these poor fellows could keep in sync.
This is so interesting to listen to! I’ts not perfect like a valensita or beautiful as a Horowitz - but it captures some torment and confusion that was in Rachmaninovs mind that tormented love and depression. It’s a shame his mind broke, because I think he could have been one of the great. Unfortunately it’s just not good. Still interesting though!
As personable as Helfgott is, this really is a poor performance. I've nothing against him but this is too much for him. The timing is all over the place, all of the notes are clipped and it just doesn't do the Rach 3 justice. Look at Olga Kern's performance of this, even if you don't know anything about music - it is all right there to hear
He plays from the heart, so beautiful!!
mamma mia che musica..fantasticooooo!!!

this song is eerie and strange. and. a colassous arrangement
@Rasterius he's gone down an octave [like Van Cliburn] and inserted a note.
why do you say that???
It does sound a bit neurotic.

2:46???????? What the hell is that note. It's either wrong or an interpretation because that's note how it usually sounds!
I think its to slow to begin with...

Actually, this performance is one of the worst I have ever heard. Kathia Buniatishvili's comes first at being catastrophest.
Actually, this is an extremely bad performance.
