I'm looking at it ax a long haul trucker as my employer has no satellite communications on trucks like Qualcomm or Aether. They use drivers cellphone. So in a no signal area, the Inreach would be a good backup if the truck or trailer breaks down.

If I were on the road a lot, personally, I would prefer the Garmin Montana 700i or the Garmin Tread Series.

When I first started looking at getting a GPS, I did look at the Montana, I do like its features but man that is a BIG unit, so I decided on the Garmin GPSMAP 67I.

I'm with you. I think the 700i/750i is best if mounted on an ATV or in an off-road vehicle. I prefer the 67i as I primarily carry it on my backpack.

Ive tried both and i just hate the interface of their 67i so i sent it back and got the Montana just because its a touchscreen and i find it so much easier to use. I carry an extra battery and a nitecore battery bank and it will last me for a weekend of hiking. I know its big but its so much easier to use for me. Plus i use it for work for walking sites and can mount it on my motorcycle for some off reading.

How about typing a new message in the field without a cell or computer? Does it has to be presaved message?

I was just talking to Garmin about this and they said it's best to use your quick text messages for this.

In a no cell signal area, can my cell phone via the 67i or Montana show my location on offline maps like What3words, Google maps, or Apple Maps? Or only via Garmin apps on phone? Also, do you knowmiliamp battery capacities of 67i vs Montana? I have different solar charger capacities. To give me an idea of how many charges it can provide.

Think we will see an updated Montana this year? Im looking to buy a device this year, July, and was wondering if i should buy now or wait. Your thoughts?

    • @outdooremergencytech
      @outdooremergencytech  Місяць тому +1

If I were looking at the Montana, I would wait a little more as this is due for an upgrade.
A Garmin Tech said they don't know a lot more than we do about what's coming out, but he did say the Montana is probably the next upgrade.
I'll post information here when it happens.

@@outdooremergencytech thanks! I love tech, and touch screen sounds amazing, but the issues people have with it, and GPS on the 67i just give me pause with the current Montana.
What's the general timing between announcements and actually being able to purchase?

Garmin hasn't announced anything and I can't give you a confident answer. You should contact Garmin for that.

I only use this window suction mount from Amazon for the Montana 750i. amzn.to/3NTr7Mb
I don't use a velcro backpack strap for the Montana but for the Mini 2 and the GPSMAP 67i, I use this one from Amazon. amzn.to/41oqzTT.
There is a backpack strap for the Montana, but I don't use it. You can find it here on Amazon. amzn.to/3v3wAcu

      Good question.
I know you can use some voice commands when it's synced to your smartphone. The voice commands would go through the smartphone.
Let me do some checking on this question and I'll respond back here.
