- Hi everyone!! I'm finally posting my birthday vlog from the end of February! Yikes! Oh my goodness, I know this is so delayed, but as you can tell from the thumbnail... we've been so sick since my daughter Eden started school in September. Even since filming this vlog, we have been hit with virus after virus and I haven't had a chance to edit. With warm weather on the way, we are starting to do a lot better. It has been a rough school year for families with young children. If you have also been constantly sick, you aren't alone!!
I’m so sorry you and your family went through this, Michelle! I hope you are all feeling better now and that better days are ahead! Hope you still managed to have a nice birthday! 😌🎉
Thank you so much Dave!!! I hope you are well 🤍. We ended up postponing my bday plans and celebrating at the end of March :)
Your videos are SO helpful to my family!!!! THANK YOU!!!
You are the best speaker and I like the way you take us through things step by step
Happy belated birthday 😊
Happy belated birthday Michelle. Hope the rest of winter was good and no more major illnesses for all 3 of you.
Thank you so much! The illnesses are starting to slow down now that spring is here :)
thank you so much for the vlogs. i'm having a period where I feel like i know nothing about my diabetes, like nothing works. and it's so calming to see you walk us through the decisions you make to stay in range
Thank you! I feel like this a lot too ❤️
Happy birthday!🎉🎈 Your hair looks great!
Michelle’s hair always looks great!
Just found your site. Very informative and helpful. Thank you for you and yours videos, they do help.
Happy belated birthday ❤️ hoping healthy days are ahead 😊
What a beautiful family! Thank you so much for your vlog. And for being real…I’m newly diagnosed (July 2022) and trying to learn everything possible. I have finally found “my ratio” required for an amazing cup of coffee without a roller coaster ride.
Good to see you again. Hope u and baby r doing well !!
Happy birthday Michelle!❤
So great to see you back on the channel. So sorry to hear of you and your families health problems and hope the tonsilitis resolved quickly.
Your comment about prebolusing at the restaurant pointed out an ongoing dilemma for type 1s: when to bolus when eating out. Do you take a chance and prebolus and hope your food arrives in a timely manner or just wait and bolus when the food does arrive and risk going high?
Been type 1 since January 2017 as a result of a pancreatectomy which left me without a functioning pancreas. Every day's a new challenge but having people like you sharing their experiences makes a difference.
Thank you so much 💜.
Bolusing at a restaurant is such a dilemma! I've been on both sides, and neither are good situations to end up with. It's so tricky.
My sugar definitely spikes with coffee as well. I have to generally calibrate for 10 extra carbs to level out the high spike! Happy birthday 🎉 sorry you guys got sick!
Happy birthday 🎂 Michelle 🎉❤
I just commented to you on your video from 5 years ago when you had an eye issue that luckily wasn't all that bad. It did cause you to get your eyes checked which was the right thing to do. Everyone, not just those with diabetes, should always get their eyes checked with any kind of eye issue. So since you did that video a lot has changed in your life. Your married now and have a daughter. So congratulations on both of those things. I'm sorry to hear you and your family have been dealing with sicknesses. That's never much even worse for your daughter. And of course the whole world went through a terrible pandemic and millions lost their lives to. So i guess we should all be glad were still here an doing pretty well.
Having been an optician for 37 years I saw quite a few patients that were diabetics. in fact as you know optometrists are even able to determine if a patient has diabetes and even heart issues. I know I fitted lots and lots of diabetics with glasses which was due to there being diabetic. Considering that your now 33, happy belated birthday by the way, I'm really quite surprised that you apparently still have perfect vision and aren't wearing glasses by now. I know you seem to be someone that really takes care of her eyes as well as your diabetes. But somethings no matter how good you are, you just don't have any control of. Also I'm not sure if you were ever told this by your doctor, but approximately 50% of pregnancies effects the eyesight. The interesting thing is it only can result in nearsightedness and never farsightedness. Myopia, nearsightedness, is caused by the lengthening of the eyes. This can happen naturally, often during the pre-teen years due to growth spurts as well as pregnancy which as you know tends to stretch many parts of the body. So far you've done a wonderful job of avoiding having to wear glasses. Whatever your doing you need to tell everyone. Continue taking care of your eyes as well as your diabetes and have a great day.
Happy birthday and I have diabetes too so you are not alone Michelle ❤❤ sending you lots of love
HBD Michelle!
Your hair color is beautiful, Happy birthday🎉🎉
We had kids at almost the same time and this is sooo funny to watch. 😂 Go T1D moms!!!
So funny what you said about coffee. I’m the same, but ONLY if my blood sugar is already wonky or rising. If it’s lower or stable, coffee doesn’t bother me. Bodies are funny. Happy belated birthday! Hope you all are well again. 🎉
Oh my goodness take care hope you get better soon 😊
Thank you!
Yes, regular coffee spikes my sugar. So I switched to decaf which was better. Then I discovered that coffee creamers also spike my sugar so I only use unsweetened vanilla almond milk and that does the trick. Glad you are on the mend for spring.
Thanks for sharing, Kelly!
Happy birthday Michelle. I have a question for you about pumps. I am on pens and usuallu eat each 3 hours to avoid overlaping insulin and mess up with blood sugars. Do you usually eat with a considerate time in between meals, or is a pump more forgiving and you can still be in good range if you eat or drink something at any time?
Hey Michelle. It's been a little over 10 months since your last video. Are you and your family okay? Concerned. I hope all is well with you and yours.
I'm really sorry ya'll have been so sick. Hopefully good health and pretty weather are on the way. (Love your hair! And belated Happy Birthday) !
Question please....Sometimes I get on my treadmill to lower my BS then after I'm off the treadmill for about 10 minutes or so it starts to go back up. Does your do that? Help.
Thanks a bunch.
Thank you so much!
YESSS that happens to me a lot! So frustrating when you think your BG is finally coming down, then it starts to rise again 😓. I don't really have an explanation for it unfortunately!
@@MichelleLord Thank you for answering. If I can find out anything I'll let you know. =) I appreciate ALL you do.
Hope you be well soon, take care 😘💗
Thank you!!!
Hey Michelle.
Could you please do a video and take us through exactly how you use the treadmill to lower your blood sugar.
I’d like to have an alternative to corrections if I don’t want to venture out. Thanks, Luc.
This use to happen to me every year at the start of school. New students, new germs. Would start in July bumping up my immune vitamins to hopefully counter act some of it
Smart idea to get that immune system built up before school!!
I've got a pretty interesting situation with drinks and blood sugar. My oldest brother (also type 1) has to bolus for coffee but not for beer. I'm the opposite, I need to bolus for beer but not coffee. I'm also into my second week at a new job at a coffee roaster and distributor, so kinda lucky I don't have to give insulin for coffee.
Also, nice to see you upload again. I've got a 6 year old in kindergarten and a 3 year old in daycare. There's always some kind of bug working it's way through my family. Hope you guys are over everything now. If only Southern Ontario weather could make up its mind, that would definitely help.
So interesting about the beer vs coffee. I'm definitely more like your brother!
I agree with the Southern Ontario weather!! All these fluctuations are not great for the viruses going around schools. I hope you and your family are staying healthy :)
how is type one treating your. I love your videos btw
Thank you
Can you also do a video on blood pressure and how to measure it at home since it is blood pressure awareness month
Happy late birthday🎉
❤❤❤
Thank you for posting this. I've missed you and understand about being sick with diabetes. Did Eden need to be hospitalized? Our 13th granddaughter was born on our anniversary December 23rd. She was hospitalized in January on oxygen. Thankfully she recovered completely,
Thank you! Luckily we avoided hospitalization, but there were many urgent doctor's visits. I'm so sorry your granddaughter had to be hospitalized at such a young age!! That must have been scary :(
I'm glad she is ok now! 💕
me too. coffee always make my blood sugar spike😊
@3:32 I LOVE strong coffee and I thought it might be the milk in a flat white that spiked me but apparently it’s the caffeine that releases adrenaline causing the Liver to release glycogen into the bloodstream that causes a spike in BG! Depressing eh?
Haha yes, that's so annoying that even coffee affects us!! Very interesting about the liver releasing glycogen though
@@MichelleLord I just wanted to know why my favourite coffee spiked my BG and knowing there’s less milk and more shots in a flat white I looked it up and yes coffee stimulates adrenaline release = Glycogen release from the Liver. Sad times… again!
We have the same birthdays!🤗🎉
I noticed that you haven't uploaded any new videos to your channel for more than a year. I hope everything is okay. Your content has been missed by many of your followers, including myself. Can you share any updates or plans for future videos? Looking forward to hearing from you soon!
Hi!! Thank you for checking in, that is very kind of you... I posted an update a few months ago, but I realize that it didn't show up for everyone.

I am ok, just juggling life with 2 kids and trying to figure out how I would incorporate UA-cam back in my life. I'm honestly not even sure how to start back up again after so long 😅. I do miss it though, and miss interacting with wonderful followers such as yourself
@@MichelleLord Thank you so much for your response, Michelle! I'm glad to hear you're doing well. Balancing life with two kids sounds like a lot of work. Your followers truly appreciate your content and miss your videos, so take your time and come back whenever you're ready. Your update video would be a fantastic way to reconnect with your community, and we're all here to support you. Looking forward to your next update, whenever that may be! Take care and all the best!
I now have you feel about having your birthday in winter I am February 9 and I got the stumec bug
Aww no that's awful!! I'm sorry :(
snowing in april?
This vlog is from the end of Feb.... BUT YES, it was actually snowing yesterday here. And last week was 30 degrees C (86F). We have the wackiest weather here.
Sorry about what you went through. Have you ever had a kidney stone?
What kind of work do you do ?
I work at a cancer centre in science communications/research. I am lucky to be able to work from home on some days, but I also go into the cancer centre.
I hope you didn't get that shot.
Feliz cumpleaños guapa! 🌻🧿
Hey Michelle! It’s Ashley / typelovely. Are you still on IG?
Heyyy Ashley!!! So nice to hear from you! No, I went off IG last August. I needed a solid social media cleanse and I haven’t felt like returning since.
