I'm an Indian and have always believed that Russia has always been better than the US in terms of rockets, propulsion technology and missiles. One cannot ever underestimate Russian capabilities. We all know about Tsar Bomba and they ended the discussion in that area for good.

@@user-lz1xw9zu2i Absolutely not. Many missiles are supersonic, but not hypersonic. Hypersonic weapons are MACH 5+ and this one shown here was flying at speed of mach 27 at tests. And this is not just a missile it is GLIDER missile. That means it has characteristics of cruse missile, but just more then 27 times faster, because cruise missiles fly at speeds about 500km/h. And Russians, China and India are the only one that officially have hypersonic weapons. And that's why USA and Europe are shiting their pants now because these weapons can go through any air defence and pass any radar systems unnoticed. Even US airplane carriers are not safe anymore because most of their AA systems can't counter anything faster then mach 3 speeds. And russian anti ship missiles fly at speeds of over mach 7. And India have missile of that speeds now officially...
Every anti-ballistic missile system that intercepts its target outside or at the edge of the atmosphere is by definition hypersonic. Otherwise they wouldn't even be able to intercept ballistic missiles at that height. Hypersonic interceptors for ballistic missile defense have existed since the '60's with the Nike-X (60's) and Sprint (70's) missiles in the US and the 53T7 Gazelle (designed late 70's, entered service in 1995) in Russia. There is nothing special about that. What is new is offensive hypersonic missiles that don't leave the atmosphere but fly relatively low, where the air is thicker and thus gives much more friction. THAT is what people mean by hypersonic weapons, not these interceptors that happen to move at hypersonic speed once they get at great altitudes.
And the PRS-1M is not a hypersonic glider. It's a hypersonic interceptor. And it flies at mach 14, not mach 27. You are confused with the Avangarde hypersonic glider. This is not a video of that missile but of the PRS-1M, a new interceptor missile for the new A-235 ballistic missile defense system.
BTW the US has multiple hypersonic weapons that have been succesfully tested, including multiple hypersonic gliders and hypersonic cruise missiles. They have been flight testing the mach 20+ HTV series (later succeeded by Darpa's Tactical Boost-Glide) since 2010, leading to the AGM-183a ARRW air-launched hypersonic missile, the army's Operational Fires system and the joined army/navy C-HGB glider missile that was succesfully tested on March 19th of this year. The US also has been flight testing hypersonic cruise missiles since 2010, when it first flew the airbreathing hypersonic X-51 Waverider. This led to a.o. the HAWC missile, set to end flight testing this year.

China made the gride hypersonic. It flies hypersonic by gliding energy. The US ICBM are mostly made in 1950. The majority has not been updated due to "no budget.". That means they are useless.

When I was studying in Germany we had a physics professor from St. Petersburg for one semester. A brilliant brain and for me it is no wonder watching this. In my opinion they have the best scientists for creating such extraordinary results like this.
