I have put off trying the pressure cooker part of the 6.5 ninja foodie; because my Mom used the old fashioned pressure cooker, and somehow blew green beans all over the kitchen ceiling. She used the pressure cooker to make fruit cakes, roasts , everything but I was hesitant to do anything with the pressure cooker. Watching your video soothed my fears; and I am actually boiling the 3 cups water pretest. Wow, really proud of myself. FEAR, you don't own me.
That is awesome! Just follow the safety guidelines and you will be fine. These electric pressure cookers are so different from the stove top older ones.
🤣 it took me forever to get one because my old fashioned stovetop one blew something into the living room. Guest: "What the heck was THAT, that just flew by my head?" ... Husband: "Oh! Looks like dinner's ready! Grab a plate!"
🤣I lol at this comment because it was the same for me. That high pitched noise Made me leave the house all the time. I’m good now, use my foodi pressure cooker often.
Good instructional video. I watch so many videos where the instructor rambles and it is hard to glean anything useful. Thanks for your straightforward way of instruction. I have watched several of your other videos. You are easy to understand and I don’t have to wait for you to get back on subject after rambling for a bit. I like that. You are good at instruction.
Your are genius, thank you so much for this video. We purchased the Foodi nearly 4 months ago and did not pluck up the courage to start using it. My wife and I drew straws who would learn how to use it and I lost. But this video was a real relief, thank you much.
I am SO relieved that I'm not the only one who was confused by placing the pressure lid. Girl... it was a complete comedy show over here for a few minutes. I was ready to send the whole thing back! Finally, I Googled the lid and realized how simple it is to get the lid on. Felt like an idiot. Now I am watching your videos to start using this Foodi. I have a Duo80 so I'm not sure why the Foodi terrifies me a little. LOL So - thank you for this and all the videos. I am subbing. By the way, my family got me the Deluxe and it came to pressure fast. I have an IP Duo80 but I can never hear the indicator beeps so I love that this one is loud.
Thank you so much for this video! I was super nervous to do the water test because this whole machine makes me nervous but watching your video helped me know what to expect.
Thank you for this video! I was really confused when trying this on my own until I watched your video. You covered all the things I had questions on :)
@@TheSaltedPepper Hi from Italy. You were definitely helpful! The steam-information is so important! I freaked out too because of the steam coming out while reaching the right pressure. I was terrified XD
This video made a huge difference for me! I found out the hard way my unit wasn't coming to pressure (I tried cooking dinner in it before doing this test). To troubleshoot I did the pressure test and was so grateful to have your commentary - made it easier to know what had gone wrong (bad valve). I called Ninja and they are replacing my lid right away! Thank you!
Excellent Demo for the Pressure Test. You spoke eloquently, beautiful smile and lovely sense of humor. I just ordered/waiting for my Ninja Foodi to arrive. My biggest conquest is beef stew; everything else will be easy peasy. Thank you and God bless!
Thank you so much! Congratulations on your new Foodi, you will love it! I just made the best stew if you are interested, here is the recipe: thesaltedpepper.com/beef-stew-ninja-foodi/
@@TheSaltedPepper Thanks a bunch! I just visited your link and bookmarked as well. I see you have a facebook group page for ninja uses. Also, can I make toast in my ninja. My counter space is disappearing with the new appliances but need toast with my morning coffee. Many thanks and God bless!
Hi there! There is a small raised arrow on the pressure lid and one on the front of the Ninja Foodi. If you line the two arrows up the lid falls into place and then you can tighten it on! Also, if the power is on while you put the lid on it beeps when the lid is secure 😊
Thanks! I thought I was going to blow-up my family and house, so I turned it off. 🤣🤦♀️ I found your video right away and felt comfortable starting dinner back up haha!
I used my Ninja first time to night. I had terrible time with instructions. Came back here and was able to figure out why I could not get lid off despite red button down. Needed to turn it off.☹️ I guess I am a visual learner. Thank goodness I had seen these videos back before I decided to get my Ninja. Thank you for your instructions.

I just bought a foodi and I was searching for how to use it. It’s like i was shipping at TJMaxx because i didn’t know what i needed to see, and then this video was exactly what I needed! Thank you!
Wish I had watched this video before doing the pressure test. Although the instructions that come with aren't bad, they don't tell you about the steam that comes out whilst pressure is building, or how long it takes. It took mine about 8 minutes too, and I thought something was wrong... Also it was useful to see the venting of the steam to release the pressure and then being able to remove the lid straight after. I wasn't prepared for the powerful rush of steam, and was then afraid to remove the lid as wasn't sure if all the pressure had been released! Also the instructions don't warn you about how hot the water will be inside - obvious, maybe, but still very useful to know.
Merry Christmas! Oh my gosh girl...I'm a total visual learner and your videos are perfect. I kept trying to push the valve hard....probably damaged it. Bah. Now I am realizing it is all good! I am coming from using an Instant Pot for 2 years to the Ninja Foodi.

Ive never left a comment on youtube lol. Anywho, i just got this machine and the seal/vent knob seems super loose. You had said that yours was actually unattached. Was it like entirely off when you first got yours or did it just seem super loose? I don’t know if I’m actually sealing it when I turn it to seal because it is so loose
Thank you for this video! I had lost the little black pressure valve and hadn’t used my pressure cooker feature in ages. I found a next day delivery of a replacement valve cover on Amazon for $10 bucks and ordered it 😊 I got it then realized I couldn’t even recall how to do the test and found your video. Thanks to your video I was able to confirm that my valve replacement cover worked perfectly fine! And so I can use my pressure cooker feature again! Yay! I have the exact model as you and I love it!
The pressure cooker lid has a small arrow on the left edge of the black trim. The cooker has a similar one just above the upward pointing "time" button. You line these two arrows up to seat the lid in place before turning it to lock it down. At the 2:30 mark in this video, you can see the lid's arrow directly above the "temp" buttons because the cooker had been sealed

Fabulous directions you know I’ve never had a pressure cooker or the ninja cooker and him those things have always scared me but I’ll tell you, you really made it look simple!
I have had mine since Thanksgiving. It’s my first pressure cooker, and I’m still afraid of it. I think that’s a good thing. But the electronic ones like this are very safe compared to the older styles. Be familiar with the directions. There are multiple functions, and each can be used wrong. The steamer and dehydrator functions work with the pressure lid on but are supposed to be used with the pressure valve open. I don’t know if the pressure safety functions are still operating in these other modes, and I don’t want to find out the hard way. Close the pressure valve only in Pressure mode.
7heRedBaron 7heRedBaron The new pressure cookers have so many safety features built in, they are very safe to use. I still use caution when opening the sealing valve. It’s interesting the dehydrating functions with the pressure lid because it’s the Tendercrisp lid that you should be using to dehydrate foods. It’s the fan circulation and low heat that draws the moisture out of the food.
I may be mistaken about the dehydrator mode where I should have said the simmer mode. But I have actually seen someone doing a UA-cam video close the valve in steamer mode to cook broccoli and not know why it came out broccoli soup. I was more worried it was going to turn out broccoli paint on their ceiling.
Thank you. Im from México. Tu video me ayudo muchísimo, no podía hacerla funcionar pero al final lo logre gracias a ti. Además de funcional estuvo muy divertido. Gracias
I am glad to watch your video on the Ninja Foodi Pressure Hot Water Cooking Test. It takes time for the Ninja Foodi To Build Pressure. At least now you can tell the Ninja Foodi will give the 2-minute Hot Water Cooking Pressure Test. Thanks Salted Pepper!
Hey video maker, thank you. I hate switching to the pressure cooker, but this video made me comfortable. I subscribed, and hope your UA-cam is going well
Thank you very much I am a very impatient person and I was not sure if my ninja foodi is Frozen or what but thank you very much now I know that it's okay
When I first pulled everything out of the box, I almost felt like I needed an engineering degree to use it. As a single guy, I've been dependent on a cheap air fryer and microwave. The Foodi is a different experience for me. Nice intro video for newbie wannabee cook.
I have a Ninja pressure cooker and I haven’t used it…Thank goodness I haven’t because I would’ve never known to do a pressure cooker test…Thank you for the tip and video…I really appreciate you…
I absolutely could not get the lid on until I watched this. The pressure lid I should say. Finally after wanting to throw the thing out the window I got it on.
HELLO! I'm 2-1/2 years late on my comment, but I just received my Ninja and followed your instructions to the letter. SUCCESS! Just a couple of very minor things; I have the 8 quart, and the red pressure button is now silver chrome. Thank you so much for a great video. Let's cook! New fan and subscriber.
Nice video, love the cooker compared to the instant pot. My only complaint is that I used the pressure cooker lid 10 to 1 of the other lid only, wish I could remove the other lid and leave the just the pressure cooker lid attached.
I just did my pressure test... simple, but scary, as I’ve never used a pressure cooker at all! I’m going to try my hand at wings. Thanks for all your wonderful, & helpful videos
It seals faster if the pot is already warm. Most of the time, you brown your beef and cook your onions/garlic/whatever first so when you put everything back in there to put under pressure, it's already warm so it pressurizes faster.
I am glad I found this. Steam does comes out when building pressure but even when it is under after the time starts and it scares me so I will not use this feature again. Very disappointed since it only started after about 4th time using.
Don't be scared, that is a safety mechanism when too much pressure is built in the pot. The valve is weighted and will release steam even during pressure cooking if it needs to. The newer models seem to do this more often than the older ones and I'm not sure why. As long as the steam doesn't continue throughout the entire PC process and your valve is sealed, you are fine. It scared me the first time it happened to me too!
Thank you for doing this. I am one of those people who need to see things. Much appeciated.
I'm glad I could help!
Yeah I needed this thanks
I just said the same thing, I have to visually see it sometimes. Can’t wait to use mine on my channel

I was about to send mine back when I saw that steam coming out. Thanks for explaining! 👍
No problem 👍
Hey video maker, thank you. I hate switching to the pressure cooker, but this video made me comfortable. I subscribed, and hope your UA-cam is going well
Thank you!
Incredibly helpful. Thanks!
Built like the ghostbusters containment unit
This was So helpful I honestly thought it was broken out of the box.
Thanks.
You're welcome!
❤ you save my day! Hehehe great video!
Thank you very much I am a very impatient person and I was not sure if my ninja foodi is Frozen or what but thank you very much now I know that it's okay
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I thought mine wasn’t working😂.
Very helpful thank you!
When I first pulled everything out of the box, I almost felt like I needed an engineering degree to use it. As a single guy, I've been dependent on a cheap air fryer and microwave. The Foodi is a different experience for me. Nice intro video for newbie wannabee cook.
I’m trying it for the first time I brought today at Walmart! I’m nervous cause I’ve heard the crazy stories of Pressure Cookers exploding! 😩😩😩
I have a Ninja pressure cooker and I haven’t used it…Thank goodness I haven’t because I would’ve never known to do a pressure cooker test…Thank you for the tip and video…I really appreciate you…
Thank you so much! Great explanation!!
Thank you for this tutorial. I just bought my Ninja Foodi and I want to learn much much much more.

I absolutely could not get the lid on until I watched this. The pressure lid I should say. Finally after wanting to throw the thing out the window I got it on.
Thank you. Straight to the point, exactly what I need.
So glad you found it helpful!
Thanks for the video.. just got mine today
Have fun! It's an amazing appliance!
@@TheSaltedPepper thank u hey.. doing pea and ham soup in it
I hope you love your new Foodi! Yes, they are constantly changing things to keep us on our toes! LOL
You're freakin awesome I love your presence ❤
Thank you so much!
Thank you.. Your videos are fantastic. You are so appreciated.
Thank you so much!
Nice video, love the cooker compared to the instant pot. My only complaint is that I used the pressure cooker lid 10 to 1 of the other lid only, wish I could remove the other lid and leave the just the pressure cooker lid attached.
Thank you!
I just did my pressure test... simple, but scary, as I’ve never used a pressure cooker at all! I’m going to try my hand at wings. Thanks for all your wonderful, & helpful videos
YAY! I hope you love cooking with your Ninja Foodi!
@@TheSaltedPepper thank you for replying . I will give another try and see what happens maybe I put too much liquid in
Thanks for the simple video and instructions! Exactly what I was looking for, I really appreciate it! Subscribed, your videos are great :)
I'm glad you found the video helpful!
Mine failed and I wasn't sure what was supposed to happen so this confirms that there is a problem with mine. Thanks very much, really useful!
Glad I could help
