    Would it be good to work as a travel nurse there first and then decide to make the move, that way you can have an address on the island, because i herd that they usually only hire if you have a local address

      Actually looking for nurses who attended BSN program at University of Hawaii Manoa moved to California?

      I would say it had higher requirements as far as even getting in to the program and maintaining status in the program but the overall experience wasn’t too different from what I’ve been told.

      It sounds like new grad positions are challenging to attain on the Island.

    Any suggestions where should appy for continue education as an LPN I finished the LPN in Vancouver Canada, but my license has expired 5 years ago so hopefully I can my practical Nursing Diploma will help me to continue with my schooling. I have 19 years of nursing background, I passed the NCLEX exam in the past when I was registered. Thanks

    Should have mentioned how these hospitals are not so diverse. Especially in town hospitals.

    • @alohaitsmeli
      @alohaitsmeli Рік тому

      @@barbie6695 majority of blacks and hispanics and some whites are most likely travel nurses the rest are pacific islanders and mostly Asian. I was the only hispanic/white in the unit most of the time. I also felt discriminated against many times.

    Hey! Looking to move to the island after graduating from my program! Any tips on where to look for a new job as a newly licensed nurse?
    Also, I have an opportunity to work in the ED here right out the door for more experience before the transition - I'd that would better my chances than just trying to find my first job out there after the NCLEX
    Thanks in advance!!

    • @LIVINGINHAWAII808
      @LIVINGINHAWAII808  2 роки тому

      It’s honestly tough as a new grad. Even if there’s a demand for nurses it’s still tough. I recommend getting some experience where you’re at first. Especially if you already have an “in”. That’ll help make the transition easier when the time comes. Hope that helps!

    • @scatter_brain
      @scatter_brain 2 роки тому +1

      Yes 👍🏼 thanks for the honesty!
      Any suggestions as far as what areas might be most useful before looking for a position? (What are usual health complications out there that'd be useful to have a strong background in to appear as a more competitive candidate)

    • @LIVINGINHAWAII808
      @LIVINGINHAWAII808  2 роки тому +2

      Any nursing experience is great! Depends on what area you’re interested in. Med Surg, ER and OR are typically hiring.
      Dialysis is big out here if you go a step further and go through that schooling.

      Exactly the comment I was looking for, as impatient as I am to try and find a job as a Newley licensed nurse I understand that getting experience would make it a lot easier.

    Where do traveling nurses generally rent?

    • @LIVINGINHAWAII808
      @LIVINGINHAWAII808  2 роки тому

      Depends on the company and the areas they may be working consistently. Also depends fo they have a family or not.

      It’s more like $44-46. In the hospitals at least. The nursing homes and private are different.
