      Scotty if I bring my 08 ford fusion to you. Will you help me to replace my vvt solenoid? I have never had to take my valve cover off so I'm a little intimidated but I already have purchased all the parts needed including gaskets. I need a pro's help. I will pay you and I think it would make a great video that you could post. Honestly I have had the run a round from EVERY mechanic in Evansville Indiana. There is not one that I would trust to bring my vehicle to. I have always been way over charged, had them try to sell things I truly don't need, or taken my wife's car to looked at because of a weird noise that literally just started and when they told me I would have to leave the car there for 3 weeks before they could get to it and it was going to cost me an arm and a leg I refused and said I would take the car somewhere else. The guy brings my car out to me half an hour later with a huge smirk on his face laughing and said here you go , good luck ,3 days later the transmission pooped itself. Sin c e then I have done every repair on my own car and refuse to trust mechanics. But I trust you.

    Bought one new in '05 when I was 61. Still driving at 80 as second car. Has been a great little runaround to pick up stuff like home improvement materials, groceries, etc. No problems whatsoever in 30K miles (not a misprint!). If want mine, you'll have to wait another 20 years or so, unless DMV takes my license away.

      I live in Canada too and got my Vibe newer (2009) but pretty much with the same mileage as yours. I have used it for almost 2 years and it's simply amazing. Yes, it's an old car so it comes thirsty for some maintenance; yet, a super convenient car. If she didn't have so much exposition to salt during the winter, certainly would be as mint as this one in the video.

      @@stuartmcalpine9468 The Prizm and Nova were pretty close to Corollas. The Toyota Sprinter shared more styling cues and body panels with the Nova so they wouldn't look like clones in the same market but mechanically, they were the same. Biggest differences being the Nova used GM interior trim, same as what you'd find in a Cavalier! And the Nova had a GM radio. A friend of mine who had a Nova had to buy the radio bezel from a Corolla in a junkyard so he could install a double din stereo as the GM radios had an odd shape. The rest of the dashboard and the instrument cluster looked very close to what I had in my '84 Corolla. Even the side marker lights said Toyota on Novas. If I remember well, it did have a GM Harrison Radiator but so did some Toyota models assembled at the Southgate plant. Later versions of the Prizm were barely distinguished from Corollas. I'm less familiar with them as they were not sold in Canada but the Nova was. In the nineties, some Toyota models also came with Delco batteries and radios from the factory. GM also bought parts from Toyota or subsidiaries. I recently helped a friend replace the clutch on his 05 Silverado with a Duramax engine and the compressor is a Denso just like the ones used in my Toyota. He currently has about 10 of these GM trucks with very high mileage and he's surprised that all but that one still have working air conditioners. I guess that's a reason why!

    • @pedrofernandez8729
      @pedrofernandez8729 5 місяців тому +12

      The Prizm was priced higher than the Cavalier, even though it was smaller and less powerful, so most buyers would not choose it. At the end of the model year, they had a bunch of unsold ones and GM threw in a $2,000 rebate on top of whatever dealer discount. I took advantage of one such car, a dealer had one sitting there, no options, manual, and i was able to buy it for less than a used one. Once in a life time opportunity. You don't ever see that any longer.

    I have a 2004 Vibe with 211,000 miles, still going strong! This car is not the best at anything, but it can do almost everything. I used it for Door Dash for years since it got great mileage, I could fold the seats and haul lumber or junk the size of a full size washer or dryer (with room to spare!) I’m 6’1” but still have lots of head room, it does great in the snow, it’s not a sports car but honestly if you drive it with a fairly heavy foot and time your corners correctly it’s actually a decently fun car to drive. I drive it all over the mountains of the Oregon coast and it handles the hills and curves wonderfully. I never have an issue with cars piling up behind me, I’m usually the one passing people. In 7 years, I put 85k miles on it and only replaced a battery, one set of tires, an air filter and a set of headlights. I change the oil regularly and serviced the transmission fluid and filter once. That’s it. AC still blows cold. Trans still shifts great. It’s an amazing little car.

    I had a 2009 Vibe with the 2.4 liter, bought it used in 2011 with 30,000 miles. I knew it was essentially a Toyota Matrix with a little lower price tag. Only had it about a year, but I liked it. There was an issue with very hard downshift when coming to a stop. It happened most of the time when stopping. I did a few hours of research online and found the answer to this issue on a Matrix discussion board. There was an update for the software controlling transmission shift. I arranged to have this update completed at the local GM dealership. They didn't know anything about this software update and at first told me it's just made this way. I pushed and shared some links in an email to the service manager. He took the info and dug a little on his end but ultimately found the bulletin and did the update. That fixed it perfectly! At the low mileage, I didn't notice the oil consumption while I owned it. Gas mileage was lower than the 1.8L for sure, but still got 32 on highways at 60 mph. It had the basic stereo. I can't remember if there was an upgraded sound option for the 2009. It was just OK. It had 4 speakers in the doors only. Lacked lows and highs. Ride was a little choppy, buy hey, it wasn't a Cadillac, so it met expectations.

    Helpful comment: The HVAC and stereo are GM-designed. The HVAC recirc flap motor is a delicate POS in the first gen Vibe; turn off your fans before you switch between recirculate and fresh air to help preserve it (this may not be very effective). The fix for this is to flip the nylon gear inside the recirc motor about 180 degrees, and the motor is easily accessed via removing the passenger's side airbag and/or having small hands, or forcing someone with small hands to remove and reinstall the motor for you.

    Generally I would agree with you about getting the 1.8 engine instead of the oil consuming, Cat Converter clogging 2.4l but I own the 2009 Vibe GT 2.4 with Sport tuned suspension and I can tell you right now if I had the 1.8l I would be very frustrated trying to overtake slower traffic. The 2.4 has big time torque at the lower levels all the way to 90mph I would not trade it for the 1.8. Yes I do have to stay on top of the oil level weekly but I have that down to a routine. As far as mileage goes, I saw one not long ago in salvage sale with 332k miles on it.

    In NC, you could get a rusted out Pontiac Vibe with low miles for around 5500K a couple years ago. Or a rusted out Yaris for 7500. They will drive and handle great, but in no time, i would imagine, trouble starts. They are not going for 1000 bucks, though,.
    I believe the only people finding the really great deals on clean cars nowadays are opportunists; for example people who come onto the property of the person who owns the car, having trained eyes looking for something of value: the plumber, electrician, policeman, handyman, yard man, cable guy, yard mechanics and then there are some who just drive around, stop and confront the owner. That's a skillset in itself. One most people don't want.

    Friends of mine have two 09 Matrix XRS with the 2.4, I drove both and they're great. One of them doesn't burn oil.
    Their son still drives their former 2003 Matrix XRS that his father bought new in 2002. This one has a 2ZZGE 1.8L engine. Now that one is probably not as good as a 1ZZFE but it's an interesting engine. I drove it too when it was new. These also had 6 speed transmissions. '03-'08 vibes have 2 engine options. The 1.8 or the 1.8. Specifically the 1zz-fe and 2zz-fe. The 1zz had issues until a redesign of the pistons in '05. The 2zz is in the vibe GT or matrix XRS. Early versions or it (pre-05?) Had an oil pump that was prone to failure. '09 and '10 vibe has 2 different engine options. 1.8 or 2.4. The 1.8 is different than the predecessor. It is the 2zr-fe. The 2.4 is the 2az-fe, and in the years it was available in the vibe, it was problematic. Burning oil and head gasket problems.

    Buying a used car in Ontario Canada is the worst experience ever. I have spend literally over a thousand dollars just in cabs and busses just to find out the used car dealer lied about the garbage they are selling. Test drive yesterday, there was a vibration that was noticeable, the heater blower didn't work and the check engine light came on all in a 5 minute test drive. Then they try to sell me a more expensive car. I quit buying used. I'm only buying new from now on and changing cars every 2 years.
