  • Dragon Commander is one of the greatest games that never was. The concept of real time strategy mixed with a bit of grand strategy, RPG elements, and a bunch more genres was always something I wanted to try out. You can even play as a dragon with a jetpack, so why isn't this title talked about more often? That is the question we will answer today with this review and explore a bit of the untapped potential of Divinity: Dragon Commander.

I do hope that this game eventually gets a remake or a sequel.

      Agreed, although no news currently.

This game was one of the best dating sims of all time, but it had an annoying minigame where you conquered the world.

I always picked the skeleton wife and turned her into a succubus. Good times. This game was weird.. because I would be disappointed that I needed to do another fight just to progress the story. I wish auto-resolve would over powered if you made the right choice. Maybe add or subtract depending on your stance with the races. Going to fight in a wooded area and are at high level support from the elves? well that should tack on a massive advantage for resolve.

Having high support for a race does add to the auto resolve a bit, but not a huge amount. I found it best to stockpile on mercenary cards, then use them and the right general to boost your chances. You may still have to play a battle or two, but this should greatly reduce the amount of played battles.

To people that have played this and Warriors Empires, how would you compare the two in strategy department? Especially in how much you can do and fun to have.

For the overall strategy side of things, Warriors Empires clears it. However, I was way more engaged in my officers than in any Warriors Empires title.

it's a bit funny that in dragon age divinity originalsin 2 the lezard are a cast socety and have an emperor while at the time of dragon commander they are the one milliting for democratie

I feel like Prospera is more the representation of the lizard people rather than the lizard elite. The two other lizards in the game have an air of superiority to them.

I'm not convinced a RTS/action combination can even work. It would be much better if it was more DotA-like so you can focus on controlling the dragon. Anyway I doubt Larian will try something like this again now.
Fun fact : supposedly feeding the demon before act 3 makes him more powerful, which is why his units are buffed as you describe I suppose - I wouldn't know, I auto-resolved every battle last time I played

Yes feeding demon fucks up the 3rd act when you fight against him

His units are buffed even without feeding him. I didn't sacrifice anything to him in this playthrough.

Honestly i know the battles can quickly get boring but I still really liked the game even back then, the political stuff, the stories of your generals and wives, voting on policy and the funny newspaper about the effects of that policy was good. I had hoped that larian may eventually revisit this ip in some form but it seems they are gonna stick with Crpgs for now.

A sequel or remake would be very ideal for this game. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if that is something they are willing to revisit.
