Turnstile's new stuff is kinda influenced by Title Fight, I think Title Fight could've been in Turnstile's position if they'd continued the band
Title fight is fucking sick dude
@@bruhpact hell yeah, such an underrated band
You’re cold!
They have no problem continuing to put out new merch though
@@Iexecutioner money talks
Turnstile did not change hardcore at all. They just got huge after the last album. The positive is that they can expose more people to the scene, but to say they changed a music genre that’s been around for 40 plus years is a bit naive.
they changed it in the exact way you described it, they gave the genre alot more attention and wil be a gateway band for alot of people so in a way they did change it ;)
@@bruhpact We had this with Sick of it All + Madball + all those Victory Records bands already in the 1990ies. Sometimes hardcore gets a bit more mainstream attention, and then it goes back to the basements. Turnstile are an awesome band, but no gamechanger.
Not that it would be not possible to change or innovate in hardcore and punk, but I agree in this case. Even for the most daring tracks of Trunstile, many other bands did it before.
Trunstile sound good to me, I like them. Is not that they dont have a personality and signature sound, but they dont sound as original as other bands like, dunno, Only Crime, Higher power, War on Women or Brutus from Belgium, which arent also the most original bands in the world and the four can be considered a re-blend of multiple punk elements just like Trunstile... yet all these bands I'm mentioning sound great, dont get me wrong, I'm not trying to diminish how good and original they are. But maybe not to the point of transforming the hardcore sound as we know it, or maybe yes... Trunstile and Brutus are making a big effort actually. And Higher Power are very interesting too.
this aint hardcore..
nah, Sick of it All and Madball never got that big mainstream attraction. Also, I hadn't made the Turnstile/Brutus connection but it kinda makes sense!
Saw them live this summer and it's probably the best show I've ever seen
hell fucking yeah!!!
Yup yup yup, saw them live at Hinterland and it has been by far the most exciting show I've ever seen
Knocked loose entered chat
Knocked loose def did do bits but they never got the mainstream succes turnstile got. Knocked loose is fucking dope tho love them
They're cool but they're no turnstile
KL🗑
Yeah they didnt create a sound theyre just popular tbh. Emmure & code orange did a better job ripping off disembodied than KL and theyre both arguably bigger than KL too
“They wrote Nevermind” - Craig Reynolds
Turnstile got big because teeny bopper hipsters listen to them because they're cool. If you play a teen hipster Sheer Terror or some real Hardcore, they'd be frightened and cry.
all turnstile songs sound like there are like 1000 more songs in one song in one song which blows your mind
My kid 25 years old came home from AZ and mentioned he is going to see Blink 182 and said the opening band Turnstile was playing in Chicago on a Sunday night.
I never heard of Turnstile before and said what the heck and listened to Glow On.
Blown away, listened to it when we were working a Haunted Train on Oct 22nd and they were playing Oct 23rd at the Aragon in Chicago.
I should have known this band beforehand.
Little late to go and kid hurt his shoulder after he fell off a zip line at the train.
I’m 51 years old and this band is like something a little different and fresh for sure with this album.
Oh and checked some of their earlier stuff which is good but Glow On puts them at another level.
I think Turnstile and Knocked Loose are both leading the charges of bringing back hard-core to main stream eyes. Knocked Loose with its Power Violent Intensity, Turnstile with there grooves and constant energy. I prefer Turnstile between the 2.
Time + Space was my first and favorite album by them but I love everything they’ve done since and before
The band who did it, was TITLE FIGHT!
Title Fight influenced Turnstile for sure
The TLC short film is basically what it’s like being a teen in small town America
I'm going to be "that guy" - I first heard Turnstile in 2011 (could've sworn it was 2010..idk) on the day their first demo (half of "Pressure to Succeed") was released because I followed a bandcamp link on the B9 Board ("MEMBERS OF TUI" caught my eye). Seen them 3 times since then; last time was at the Mohawk in Austin TX with Lil Ugly Mane (my favorite artist; also, Narrow Head), just a few days after Glow On dropped...no barrier, packed house, amazing show. And the last show I've been to; used to hit about two a week, but it's been a hell of a year...I got my gf into Turnstile (like REALLY into TS, and hardcore generally); she surprised me one morning with tickets to their Albuquerque date (this past May; 4-hour drive). I was elated...she died though, on 4/18 (at 26 y/o...I'm 30). We obvi didn't go, and I haven't had ANY motivation to go out; since her death, everything has been downhill. BUT, if that TS + LUM show ends up being the last show I've ever gone to, I'll die happy.
PS - you should've mentioned One Step Too Many! A Christian hardcore band feat. Brady on vocals, Brandon on drums (and background vox - check "Take Me Out"), and their original guitarist...formed circa 2005? Idk; that was half of Turnstile right there - I view it as a sort of precursor to TS, though it is VERY different..lil history.
Sorry to hear that dude
@@bruhpact thanks bruv; been holding up! Thanks for the video!
@@jaredburgess1948 No problem man, thanks for watching and sharing your story!!
sorry to hear that man :( but i was at that austin show as well it was amazing, they still played some of their old stuff ! too bad i was on crutches i couldn’t throw down or mosh that day
Great band, but they are no longer hardcore. The last album proved that. They will transition to pop rock soon if not next album. Change hardcore? They are creating a poppy version and f hardcore. I personally prefer there early work.
I first saw them as a 18 year (2016) old in an 200 people basement in Switzerland and this was the best show i saw in my entry Life. this year i saw them in an big Hall in Switzerland and they still were fucking amazing. also the Crowd was fucking beautiful. Love this Band more then myself, lol.
Euros shouldnt be allowed to have US hardcore discourse fr
Agreed. Euros should stick to eating ham and cheese sandwiches.
They didn’t change world they just stopped playing hardcore 😂
Fuck Me Blind is a Give cover.
Saw them live in DC recently and was one of the best shows I've been to
Heard turnstile in 2021 on the greyday tour
Yo my guy! Baffled at your sub count. If you keep putting out videos of this quality, my friend, you will blow up in no time! Subbed. Big fan of turnstile - Franz lives 2 doors down from me! I always see him skateboarding around and smoking cigs on the stoop when they're not touring. Cheers man and good luck with the channel!!!
Thats so nice to hear man and also thats fucking sick dude!!!
Nice work bro-man
I appreciate this video and your work
cheers man!
they crushed coachella
One of those insignificant tours came by my little town in South Dakota. Such a sick show. Met franz beforehand not knowing he was playing. Really chill dude who's demeaner did a 180 as soon as their set started 😂
Fuck Me Blind is the old TLC lol
Turnstile WAS a hardcore band
Always the hardcore elitist
Found the gatekeeper lmao
@@sethgsf4120 Gatekeeping is good for hardcore.
@@mookai9813 gatekeeping scares away potential new fans
he just on the gate, turnstile's already IN lol
Love turnstile
As soon as Pleased To Meet You started I commited lol
Sean Coo was in the Trapped Under Ice circle, and directed the music video for 'Believe' - They were in kahoots well before turnstile.
I think no one has sellout the hardcore style more than Turnstile theyre 2 first album are good tho
Title fight could be up there with them if they stuck around, sucks they aren't active any more although they are blowing up on Spotify at the moment
They are an awesome band
They sure are!
I'm 46 years old and an old school punk and hardcore head. I first discovered Turnstile in August 2021 from a UA-cam video of a live performance just down the coast of me in Oxnard, CA. I was so stoked to see kids still moshing like I grew up in the 90's. I immediately fell in love eith their sound and presence and devoured everything they had released. So stoked to have seen them in Los Angeles in February 2022 and actually ran into Brady before the show. So blessed to have been at that show, especially since it one of Brady's last show with the band.
Thats what its all about! Glad to hear that man :D
To clear up some stuff: Time and space came out in 2018 and Fuck me blind is a cover by the band given, sorry for the confusion
The band is just called “Give” not “any given”
They didn't change shit. There was bands like these in the 90's.
How turnstile became a pop band
TURNSTILE RIPS
Nice work dude.
Bruh i make beats and have this kind of content for most hip hop rap but i never get to see this kinda thing with the genres that made me
WICKED
fuck me blind is a cover of a band called Give fyi
Everyone in the comments are hating because turnstile made hardcore accessible, but Brendan’s voice is truly one of a kind and made the band shine above other bands. It does not get the credit it deserves
Maybe I’m just an old man nowadays but can anyone explain how a band that rips off Comeback Kid and DARE gained so much “mainstream” popularity? What does “mainstream” even mean?
Should we expect the Kardashian Tik Tards to start showing up to OC Straight Edge shows now? What’s next, VIP booths at a Dying Wish show? This music is for the have-nots, the downtrodden, the kid who ate school lunch everyday by himself while everyone pointed and laughed at them. The only escape that some have through their headphones and here comes big corporate all of a sudden with their rainbow delusion and half ass songs with Blood Orange *cringe* followed by a mediocre review by some UA-camr who’s never been glassed in a pit.
This can’t be real. This is not HARDCORE.
They Sold Out to Hardcore and haven't changed shit
This guy must not have been alive in the 90s 😂... Turnstile is not the first hardcore band to achieve mainstream appeal.
What’s up with your voice ?
it makes sound idk?
it's a accent he's from a EU country.
I like Turnstile but they didn't change shit .They sound like late era Bad Brains (Quickness, God Of Love )
Do you know what happened at there show jera on air 2022?
I was there! But I have no idea what happend, I guess some sound issues
Cant believe you didn't mention how brandon wrote pretty much all of pressure to succeed and got the guys together to record it just for something to do. They weren't even a real band at the time, and yes occasionally played shows at the time. Even though they weren't actually a band people wanted more, so they gave them more. I'm gonna be honest it really doesn't seem like you did much research on the beginning of Turnstile because I only know this stuff from random youtube interviews I've seen. Didn't even mention that they would record at Brandons neighbours house for fun, and that's where they did the first 3 records I think. Sucks an underground band that I've loved for years is now getting these generic video essays made on them with little care to provide facts the fans actually care about. Don't get me wrong though I'm super pumped they're big now. And no, Turnstile never changed hardcore. They released some banger hardcore albums, and then some banger post hardcore records, they are fucking amazing but nothing groundbreaking.
Edit: BTW Fuck Me Blind isn't even a Turnstile song, it's a Give cover. Do your research man smfh
Edit #2: The record is called Turnstile Love Connection, Not Turnstile Love Connect. This is getting embarrassing
Edit #3: The magazine is not called The Rolling Stones, its called Rolling Stone.
This guy hasn't once replied to any legitimate criticism on this video except to someone calling out the Give cover earlier lol. I agree with everything you said, unfortunately that's the double edged sword of bands getting popular. It brings out this half assed content of people trying to ride the popularity for their own benefit, it's so easy to see. This guy literally just read their Wikipedia page and still fumbled.
By the end of 2015 they were one of the biggest bands in hardcore, if not the biggest. 2013-14 was not insignificant. I'm stoked on all of the love they're getting, but some of this is straight up ignorant.
Eff me blind is a covor tho
most turnstile haters are just 30+ year old bitter guys in mediocre hardcore bands that never got anywhere
Factssss
Turnstile are in their 30s lmao. It shouldn’t be surprising if people who like hardcore don’t like the new album either. Hardcore and punk fans have a history of not being accepting of bands crossing over into the mainstream or writing more pop oriented music, and there is some legitimacy to that.
N new Turnstile fans just found out about them 24 months ago. They’re really not like the Turnstile that was playing hardcore shows in 2014-2015. They used to have that same vibe as Leeway.
I saw them 2 days ago my body still hurts
Wait. Turnstile changed absolutely nothing. They simply moved from the hardcore world to mainstream. Blink 182 is no punk, it's mainstream. Green Day is no punk, is mainstream. I think people should start to use their brains and think outside the labels internet give to things. I am not saying Turnstile is shit, I loved them and saw them in Berlin for free at an open air show in 2015 when they still were reacheable. Nowadays they are an average indie band with a good social media manager; musically they mediocrely mix "hardcore" with indie and 90's alternative rock; they have a good image, but don't tell me they are changin' the "hardcore rules". I think they spend their money well at gym...Please! Playing 500$ ticket venues is no hardcore, is just mainstream.
Bah.
It's a clickbait title, the dude spoke nothing about how they changed hardcore... instead he pretty much read their Wikipedia page. This type of content gets the band more hate than it does to educate anyone, which is the sad part about "mainstream success"
@@wyattstrange3855 Oh, I don't even have watched it. I'm just here for the vi#€&_ce
Man do better research lmao. Fuck Me Blind is a cover, originally by the band Give. And Time and Space came out in 2018, not 2017.
sorry for making mistakes on my first ever music commentary video ever big internet man, I will do beter next time x
@@bruhpact I mean it is a video where you detail the history of the band, you could at least do it correctly
@@sethgsf4120 Mistakes can happen bro, i'm human
@@bruhpact this is insane. so you basically told a lie (an insignificant one in this case), which could potentially confuse a lot of people if the video gets many views, and then you're like, "yo i'm only human mistakes can happen". this shit is not going to work during a thesis defense in a university, you know
fucking hell, and then these braindead liberals cry about autocrats ruining their precious world where turnstile has changed hardcore FOREVER. ahahah it's been one year since glow on, have you heard at least ONE actual hardcore band that tried to do the same thing and be like them? hardcore doesn't give a single fuck about turnstile, who are touring with snail mail and jpegmafia lmao
@@willpowerbroken lol funny to see you still searching and consuming turnstile content. Hater logic at its finest.
I do agree this is a pretty poor attempt at a video history (and a clickbait title, no less). But bro you're getting bent outta shape for small mistakes, from an uncredited youtube channel, making a video about a band you've been hating on since the Glow On singles started dropping. Oh the irony of now seeing you try to fact check and defend the purity of Turnstile's history with every new listener. Haters really do be evolving.
