this album is probably in my top 5 favorite albums ever, it means a lot to me.
Great to see you messing with this record! I actually think you might personally like some of their older stuff more! Also shoutout to everyone in the Poll voting for La Dispute's "Wildlife" let's get that one on here!
I hope you’re having a great day Myke C-Town DA GOAT
omg I’m so happy ur reviewing this
That Turnstile album is awesome! So awesome to see you review this. Have a great day, Myke!
Went to their show last year just because JPEGMAFIA was opening. I was thinking of leaving early once JPEG was gone but I'm definitely glad I stayed. One of the best shows I've ever been to and it got me into Hardcore in general.
That's great dude. Where did you go next in your journey getting into hardcore?
@@Bkesal14im a big fan of Kubkai Khan right now, along with End It, Speed and some local bands in my area.
I remember hearing Turnstile back in 2015 or so when I was a hardcore kid in middle school, I wasnt crazy about them back then, but when I heard the indie kids in collage talking about it I had to heard it and I was surprissed cause it felt like they found their sound
Yo dude, I was following you back on your other channel because I'm a big fan of Sadistik. I didn't know you were also into metal/hardcore, this is a dope and glad I found this channel.
It was my #2 in 2021 and I like your aesthetic comparison to The Shape Of Punk To Come!
Nice review! Love this album. Saw them live, never knew of them before. I have to admit, the more I listen to it, "No Surprise" is only an interlude, but it damn near blows my mind how well written it is, and that the bass player is dropping these awesome lead vocals outta no where.
great album... I hear Helmet in the guitars.. but also get reminded of 311 and Shelter (when they go uptempo)
Oh yup. All legit references.
Myke the Kid C Town back again! 💯
the lyrics from "glow on" are amazing: they are full of existential stuff but that doesn´t sound corny or new-agey. good review
We sell the shit out of this album at the record store I work at. I keep meaning to see what the hype is about but haven't gotten around to it. This review is going to bump this to the top of my list. Thank you!
Guys if you haven’t voted already, hit the link and vote for La Dispute - Wildlife. That album is a harrowing masterpiece in storytelling. Myke deserves to not miss out on it.
I’m such a passive “rock” fan that the fact that you called this out of your element confused tf out of me
He's talked about how he's done trying to stick to that concept for this series since it hard for us to know what's "out of his element." This series is basically now just him reviewing albums that we vote for, whether it's a familiar genre to him or not. I would say Turnstile is very much within his element.
@@SilhouetteLifter Yeah I've thought about changing the name so it's not confusing but figured I'd just leave it.
@@SilhouetteLifter oh I missed the update. Like I said I’m a very basic level rock fan so I didn’t know he didn’t care for this particular genre.
From the DMV and these dudes were legends before and after this record. There’s been a lot of split in the HC community, some shops have been putting their record in the Alt section. I love that they’re getting people that probably wouldn’t listen to heavy music into it. W take from Myke as always for being open to new guitar music in a world filled with purists.
Recently discovered them and this album is a gold mine. It’s been my recent obsession and I’m a modern day trap/ hip hop head.
Myke did you listen to the Soul Glo album that came out last year? One of my favorite hardcore punk albums to come out in recent memory
I had this album on my list to listen to for too long. Gonna listen to now!
Saw them on tour with Peggy and Snail Mail.
Reslly great performance with lots of energy and variety musicwise
Definitely go back and listen to the first two 7”s (one of them is the demo, I believe) and the two previous LPs just so you can hear the progression.
The recently kicked out one of the guitar players so the next album will definitely be interesting. And I do see the comparison to Refused, although TSoPtC was kinda ignored when it came out while this exploded.
Turnstile is fantastic live. They sound even better than in recording.
Glad to see this album make it to OOME!
It also took me a while for it to click with me, and I felt like a weirdo because everyone around me was collectively shitting their pants.
I've been a Turnstile fan since right before Nonstop Feeling came out, have seen them play big rooms, once a tiny, tiny room, I've had their poster on my wall for years - then heard the album and went, 'well, Holiday is cool, but I dunno.'
I'm not sure what I was thinking anymore and am very much on the 'this album is amazing' train. It's such a step up from their earlier work. They were always more of a live band for me - this is their first record that sounds amazing just as a record.
They absolutely smash it when they play the songs live too, though. They've become rockstars. It's beautiful to see.
Love this album, love this bands whole discography
This is already a classic album
Didn’t expect to hear Hopesfall mentioned but damn that’s a good call out
Theyre opening for blink on the reunion tour this year. Itll be the third time i see them in about a year's time. Theyre so good live. Hopefully they headline again soon so you can see them haha
Dear Myke, I always wonder if you like Los Crudos or Limp wrist? and what you think of their sound
I made a joke that this Turnstile album reminded me of Snapcase meets Kidzbop. However I loved this album when it came out-Underwater Boi was my fave, but I even lived the cornball bad latin flavor on "Don't Play" that sounded like a B side on The Shield tv show.
For a second I thought you might shit on one of my all-time fave albums. Great review Myke, keep up the awesome work.
Glad you're messing with this album. Absolutely love the sequencing of the record and the cool instrumentation like the piano and other non hardcore type of production they utilize so well. So damn good.
Hearing the beat behind the vid gives me hope that myke might like my stuff
A fantastic, feelgood album for me.
Out of curiosity, what gear do you use to review albums? (Headphones, speaker set up etc?)
2019 Samsung phone speakers
Love the album and all their work but I still think time and space is my favorite. Albeit not as diverse, the flow and heaviness of that record gets me going like few other albums have. So many ideas expressed in around 25 mins that it feels like you listened to something at least double in length. Highly recommend it
They’re even better live
Man, underwater boy reminded me of myself in my past job - just lagging behind, wondering if this was the right path, knowing I had a long way to go, and struggling all the way through. I left that place after I decided I didn't want to be underwater, and that shitty big prize (more money) wasn't worth it
Wow I haven’t listened to this album in a while I hope you liked it
they are soooo good live
will dawn of orion come to streaming too?
I don’t know I really really dug this one. Got them Revelation/Shelter vibes.
BOOM BOOM BOOM
Love this album, their old stuff is cool and interesting because it reminds me of Strife so it’s weird that they made this transition with this album
Also it would've been so rad to see JPEGMAFIA open for them. Dude matches the vibe live, like a one man wrecking crew
I saw a show on tour, it was fucking awesome. A bit of a weird vibe at times because the hardcore kids didn't really know him as a whole lmao so when he was just going up to his laptop and saying "damn I fucked up" and hitting restart on a beat they had no clue what was going on
Definitely go backwards a bit! Their early demos are great examples of groovy hardcore.
I highly recommend Nonstop Feeling and Step 2 The Rhythm by them, imo better than this one
Took a minute to click with me. It's fine it's not hardcore anymore but who cares. It is birthed from hardcore kids.
311 with more annoying vocals and paperthin guitars. Meh. Next!
