This hack was fantastic and so well done, just finished it myself. Had me addicted lol I put 15ish hrs into it
I don't do the whole Discord thing, so I don't often get a chance to talk to people who do romhacks, but people like you are the heroes of video games right now. Like seriously, creating new ways to enjoy games that we love while it seems so much is going poorly in this industry. People who create romhacks are a different breed. I've been almost exclusively playing Pokemon romhacks recently, Radical Red, Emerald Rogue, and a couple of others, and I'm just constantly floored at how much I enjoy those compared to like Scarlet and Violet. Modders who do stuff for free are up there too, the amount of hours I've sunk into mods for games is ridiculous. This looks incredible and I can't wait to try it.

I wanna see a Phantasy Star multiplayer lobby based dungeon crawler mod for OoT now. This mod is a good basis for it. A nice mix of the original PSO and Diablo.

The thing about that first boss is that he has ISG. He isn't attacking, he is swinging the scythe around. If you touch the scythe, you take damage. Period.

This Romhack was honestly really fun. It's a great way to refamiliarize yourself with the game's combat if you've been away for a while because it really doesn't pull any punches.
I saw someone play this and was intrigued so i downloaded it. Probably the best OoT hack I've played in a long time. It got addicting at one point lol.
Cool hack. Small nitpick, but it somehow really bothers me how the mystic shield textures seem to be inverted (inside is reflective and outside is wood, looks like it should be the other way around)

An astounding way to make OoT's battle system into a Roguelite. Amazing job with the narrative and the battles looked satisfying to learn, complete with new mechanics and that good ol' OoT nonsense people are fans of.
I especially appreciated that love note to Nintendo stuff in Keaton's room. It would've been fun if he had a little quiz based on what was in the room, but fun either way. Great job, devs.

@@UltimatePiccolo Rogue-lite. It's a game where you go do stuff, use money/events/whatever you earned to unlock new features or just increase your strength. That's what this one is all about.
Edit: Feel like I didn't say that right, but basically Rogue-Lites are a game where just playing or dying actually lets you unlock stuff; Rogue-Likes are games where dying does nothing for you except get more info, but this one is all about increasing your strength so the next run is easier or you unlock new features to enjoy.

@@NIMPAK1 Not at all, silly. You're misunderstanding what I was talking about. I was talking about Rogue Lites with a T; not Rogue Like-Likes with a K. Which is fair, they're just a letter apart.
Zelda has no Lite mechanics, which are typically gaining features and increased success over time by losing, but getting a bit further. You never have to really completely start over in Zelda; Lites always have you starting at the beginning, but not necessarily with a fresh start.
When you think of a Rogue-Like, you start with nothing every time. You begin with a clean slate every time, no matter what you did in a previous run. The only thing you gain in both of these is information and in that way, you can compare it to regular Zelda games, sure.
But they're not the same at all. I apologize for explaining things so poorly in the previous message, though.
@@BlueMageBrilly the only thing missing from the rogue aspect is the generatedness, at least for the child and adult trials, they re the same each run, making it feel like... oh idk, trials as the romhack suggest. I dont even think the romhack pages call this game a roguelite/like

The editing on these long videos is fantastic. Makes watching these long videos much more enjoyable compared to the VOD.
Imagine calling yourself Zelda Fan Girl, and not knowing the Pols Voice weakness.
To be fair sound is their weakness and their secondary weakness changes from game to game and region. The original version from the actor pack only had the bow weakness and immune to everything else before I went in and fixed it. (It even dies to playing the ocarina now but obviously unused here.)
Seeing things like Zol, Gel, and Pol's Voice represented here feels so great!
You'll see them a lot. They're from the hylian modding actor pack including the wizzrobe that anyone can use for their hacks.

He has said before that he prefers Hold targeting in general, but he says it's bad in OoT specifically. He did not elaborate on why though.

Im curious for a zelda romhack if it was done for either resident evil 4 or 5 environment levels and missions when playing as Link on the MM engine. Just to see how well it would play out or a zelda romhack for Castlevania 64.
It's not a roguelike. Definitely draws inspiration from them, but it doesn't have those truly random upgrades you lose when teh urn ends.

No, to be rogue adjacent there needs to be some kind of random/procedural generation. This is more of a series of trials like a combat gauntlet

There are a lot of crazy quality things in this that are original concepts (I think), but I can't not mention the asylum demon and Morshu. That's great.

@link4585 that isn't what a roguelite is. For a game to be any sort of "rogue-ish" it needs to have random elements like procedural generation making every run different from the last. Hades is a roguelite. This is a combat gauntlet.

Am I lost? I thought roguelikes were turnbased, with RPG elements. This is more OOT style gameplay, which isn't bad, but it's not a roguelike. I was looking for turn-based strategy zelda.
This was great and fun to watch.
Idk if id play it though, specifically because i feel they could have done with less enemy spam for artificial difficulty spikes.
