Remember watching this over and over again at the 24h hours of Le Mans museum when I was a kid. My grandfather used to work there and bring me there every wednesday afternoon.
This video gives the impression that the only cars racing at Le Mans in 1977 were Porsches, he didn't pass any other type of car!
Beautiful sound and great onboard.. This car must have been a blast to drive around with all that oversteer. Really respect the old drivers to do this for 24 straight hours..
This car is definitely a handful on project cars 2
Even back then Porsche had the smoothest gear changes.
Uhhhhhhh..... From the fastest point on track, braking into the slowest 60km/h turn... I would like to see those brake discs in the turn - shinning like a sun.

Le Mans with no chicanes ! ... Great !!!! Thank you for sharing this awesome video.
The top speed difference is huge on the straight! Amazing!
A lot of 911's :)
If only the track had the straight without chicanes still. would be epic!
Agreed
360km por hora...isso em 1977, incrível.
Old but gold
OMG that car made the other cars look like they were stuck in first gear.
2:43 truly skill
@clebercoxaroots : Well over 200 mph in those days. Le Mans has since added two chicanes to break up that long straight-away because otherwise the speeds would be insane.
Great footage! Passing 911's GT3 like they are standing still. This is how the A-holes in Los Angeles imagine themselves when they are speeding around in traffic driving their BMWs and Mercedes. Just my observations since I live there.
Very nice. He was really moving on those long straight stretches. Thanks
Porsche 936 the legend of the LMP class of all time ;)
on the hunaudieres i thought the speed was like 250km/h but then the porsche came/stand(by) by =b then after mulsanne, how quick he was when he overtook the 2nd porsche, having for sure like 30 or 40km/h more speed then the porsche. imagine the acceleration since he had the same speed as the porsche, but when the road was clear its just like a rocket thruster :o sick!
Others times... Miss them
its incredible how peaky those engines were ! Hard to drive
FANTASTIC porsche
Aww, that was lovely!
Great years...
Durch die Kurve mit 340
Fucking beetles blocking the way...
Awesome !
What's the max speed? Over 300? The center line pimp in Straight 1:25
I'm thinking this means use a new machine to perform faster among other Porsches, or just a pace car.
Porsche rules !
@S4T4NG0SS 380km/h in 1970 with the 917K or 917L
Peugeot 412 km/h
chicanes 1990.
Once...
that is a fast speed in the 250's in mph
The 936! *****
the max speed of this 936? somebody knows?
around 215 mph/345 kph
Allan Mauricio Flores Ponce Something roundabout 340 to 350 K's.
how the fuck is the mike hawthorne video better quality than this one?

I hope the 919 wins Le Mans this year
2015,2016,2017
It did...in 2017. Quite a "come back" story about the car and drivers.
They did :P

This is way too hot!
No telemetry... -_-
nach die porsche curve, alles in dritten gang........
Note: "...an AVERAGE speed" of almost 195mph.....that's AVERAGE speed for 24 hours. Utterly amazing.
Ulleval73 its in kmh, 195 km/h. Its about 120mph
kph not mph
Ulleval73 194 KM/H not mph
i think it's kph, not mph
Ulleval73 average speed of 195 KILOMETERS per hour.
@stekhouse Ickx wasn't human. I wish I knew the days when racing was real. And dangerous..and designed for young, stupid playboys with wavy hair and easy smiles who wanted to die just a little...*flips his wavy hair and smiles easily*
Neither Derek Bell
Langsam = slow
Now just another Volkswagen Property, depressing. No way Lamborghini and Porsche should be part of the same Company, no damned way 🙁
I couldn't agree with you more . It is sad what happened with all the car companies .
Not like forza 4.
This is way too hot!
