This is one of the best pedalboards due to choice of gear and function - BluGuitar amp 1 is an amazing unit by it's self the way you intergraded the tone x and the boss 3 switcher (with effects) is so well thought out IMO - nice work Lucas and great chops bro
Tube amp guy here. Taking the plunge into modeling with a Fender FR-12 speaker and Boss IR-2 (amp/cab) pedal - both coming in a week. Wish me luck :) And congrats on your rig - looks really impressive!
Very cool! It takes a bit of adjusting to get used to the sound of an FRFR rather than a cab, because it's less directional and more like what your cab mic'd would sound like. I always get '"hearing hangover" when I jump from one to the other, for a few minutes.
Have the AMp1 (both Iridium and Mercury) and LOVE how responsive the controls are.. makes all cabs sound great by tweaking even dark or brittle cabs.. and just got the Tonex pedal.. been trying to use it with Fryette Power station PS-2 to run into 2 cabs like i would my amps (Splawn QR, Plexi and OG 51250).. has a 2x 6L6 power tubes as well as tone shaping.. still getting used to captures with CABS or just DI (no cab).. and getting proper tones out of it.. have not tired it into FRFR (I dont have one) and dont have a DAW setup as yet to test that function out with Monitors.. but you nailed all the sounds you need.. I bet it took a few hours to get all those connections right.. lol.. nice job man.. great playing..
Killer Rig. I have the Amp 1 now you have me thinking. I tried my peddd as aboard through the Fender tonemaster Blobde Deluxe. It sounds great. Tech has come a long way
For me it's the tonex captures..... the legend super lead and the MT15 specifically. I really love the ambient tones you're using for Intertwyned as well, I have questions about how all these things works together... they'll be coming.
Wow dude! Sounds fantastic especially amp1 iridium ! I have mercury edition but i really want iridium and can't wait for ampx! But surprisingly your tonex captures sound fantastic also!
Really cool setup. If I were you I would use the rec out of the amp1 to go inside the IR loader in order to have the sound of the power amp section of the amp1 into the IRs. ;)
Very clever approach to the pedalboard! I’m in a similar boat, have ToneX and thinking of getting Bluguitar just not sure Mercury or Iridium. I like Bad Cat/ Matchless clean and Jubilee/modded JCM800 gain.
Hey Lucas! I bet you can’t wait for the Amp X to finally be in production. Killer rig brother. Where bouts you play? I know you’re fairly close to the Charlotte area…wouldn’t mind make a drive up to see you guys live. Man that smile hot REAL big when you got the MT15 tone. 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I'm very much looking forward to checking out Thomas's latest mad science project! With the cover band we mostly play in the Triad area, Winston/High Point/Greensboro, with random occasional dates in Virginia or down towards Lexington. We did play in Concord at least twice last year too. InterTwyneD doesn't play nearly as much(maybe 3-5 times a year) but we play in Winston, Greensboro, High Point, Charlotte, Raleigh, etc. You can follow our dates for InterTwyneD on the facebook page and the cover band is doing a little bit of a rebranding right now so I'll have more details on that later.
Hey Lucas, great video! I was just considering doing this exact setup with a ToneX One into my Blug (or into the effects loop of my JetCity) and was hunting around for ToneX captures of just the preamp section of amps and that's how I came across you on ToneNET. Are you the only person doing this or have you come across others too?
Great video Lucas. I love your tone and it's very cool to see how you achieve it. I'm totally a modeler guy and have been using a modeler for my live sound for several years now. I wonder if you could get your tone in a Kemper/Fractal/Quad Cortex/Helix? I run my modeler straight to our PA and use in-ears to hear my tones. We do silent stage at my church where I play and it's been an adjustment going away from my FRFR cabs to monitor, but it is working. I'd considered a BluGuitar Amp1 or an Iridium or something similar, but gravitated back to my Line 6 stuff. Looking forward to more videos in your new studio space. God bless and rock on 👍😎🎸
Thank you! I have actually owned a Helix Floor since around 2017 or so. Actually I made a video a couple of years ago where I kind of dialed in "my tone" through the Helix, you can watch that here if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/4lM4aX05JNs/v-deo.htmlsi=HDHNhpHi9nqqlc97 I like the Helix a lot, it's a great tool for live and recording, I think I just got sort of taken with the AMP1 a couple years ago when I got it and I've been sort of attached to the sound :P I have a cool Palmer stereo power amp I can use to power the Helix in stereo and it's a lot of fun. My only thing with something digital like that is when it's put side by side with a "real" amp, it always seems lacking. If you're the only guitar player, no problem. If everyone is using digital stuff, also no problem. But if one guy is using a 100 watt Boogie and you're digital, it matters :P
Amazing !!!! How do you set the cab sim from the tonex ? As far as i know it‘s not possible to split the Output signal. ( Guitar cab ( off ) -- FOH (on ) Sounds great …..
Great setup, explanation and playing. Maybe I missed it but do you power full rig captures with the Amp 1 power section? Point being, you kinda get the power tube effect twice that way, but maybe it's alright?
Great question! I think I do mention it in the video, but no, I don't do full amp captures for this rig- only the preamps. I did try the aforementioned power amp capture into the AMP1 and it works just fine until about 5-6 on the master volume. When you start to get saturation from AMP1's Nanotube, it gets muddy and loses clarity to my ears. I find it best for this setup to use preamp captures and let the AMP1 be your power amp sounds. It shines in that application!
Amazing idea to set up a rig like that! 😮 On another note: how do you like the Digitech Drop? I just put up mine for sale cause I can't stand the latency, I'd rather carry more guitars for different tunings 🥲
Hey Lucas, really liked the low gain sounds you got out of the Amp1. What bridge pickup is in the HSS PRS you started the video with? It looks like a normal humbucker sized Filtertron(?)
Thank you! The bridge pickup is a "custom" version of my Planet Tone signature Statera pickup. It has an A5 mag rather than the stock A4, screw pole pieces in both bobbins and an "H-Bomb" style cover. It's also turned backwards so the "hotter" coil is closer to the middle single coil :) I suspect you could special order that from Planet Tone if you emailed him.
I wouldn’t recommend running it through the clean channel, rather I would run it into the FX return or power amp input. The ToneX can model pedals, which would be ok in the front, but I wouldn’t recommend running amp models into another amps preamp. No rules though, if it sounds good to you do it 😁
have you found another poweramp to combine with tonex thats comparable to the bluguitar? For instance, do you think you could profile the amp1, use another poweramp and get a comparable sound in terms of quality, punch and eq?
The closest thing I’ve found to the punch and able to get the same EQ profile is the Palmer Macht402 power amp, but that doesn’t do the nanotube sag thing. I’ll end up getting another AMP1 I’m sure 😂
I found the Tonex really sounded good as a preamp. How do you disconnect AMP1's preamp to use an external one and just the Amp part on the Amp 1 ? Cheers Lucas good job !
By using the “4 cable method” with my MS3, I’m able to isolate just the preamp of the AMP1 and the ToneX in separate, discrete loops. Then I just program which one I want to send to the power section.
I find that I like them both for different things. The louder I need to play, the more likely I am to use the AMP1's preamps because it holds up better. The AMP1 power amp in itself is very special :)
This is one of the best pedalboards due to choice of gear and function - BluGuitar amp 1 is an amazing unit by it's self the way you intergraded the tone x and the boss 3 switcher (with effects) is so well thought out IMO - nice work Lucas and great chops bro
still waiting for Thomas to finish the AMP X - this thing should be amazing for tone and features

That is how I have it wired, with the internal speaker simulator turned off so that I send my custom IR’s to FOH. 😁👍
The rec out still has the nano tube effect if I remember correctly, right?
looking healthier and younger...Keep it up man

Great board! Getting the best out of the hottest gear 😊 well done!!
It’s my primitive attempt at AMPX until they’re available!
Perhaps silly question, but could you put ToneX in loop of Helix floor, then run that thru clean chanel of a Katana head & whatever cabinets??

Love your setup Lucas. I have been a Custom 50 player for many years. Is your model available in tonex?
Yes, you can find all of these tone captures and more for free on my page :)
