  • An in-depth video series for how to build a hydrofoil from home that actually works. There are several ways to build a hydrofoil, this is simply how I like to do it. - Free Hydrofoil plans here: flukeskitesurfing.com/hydrofo...

    In this video:
    The foil is finished! :) We have now finished all the hydrofoil components, and its time to assemble them! In this video, we will screw the wings to the fuselage and the parts together, I'll also cover some of the important points I didn’t say while building the foil in the videos. We will talk about: The weight of the foil and weigh the components, the screws you need for the foil, maintenance, reminder to tighten the screws, the mast connections and choice, the aspect ratio of the wings themselves and more! Now that the homemade DIY hydrofoil is complete, there’s only one thing left to do... take it on the water and test it out!
    I’ll see you in the next video and last video for the how to build a hydrofoil video series, where we take the foil for its first flight! Can’t wait!

    Can you make your own hydrofoil?
    In my opinion, this is one of the best ways to make a hydrofoil from home. By design, the foil construction helps remove critical mistakes that people can make, leaving them with a hydrofoil that won't fly. The free hydrofoil plans are there to help you end up with a hydrofoil that works! So, If you're wondering if you can build a hydrofoil yourself DIY? You can!

    You are the best teacher I have seen on UA-cam. Slow enough for a complete novice, comprehensive too. On a par with Khan Academy.
    I know a bit so I could jump forward 20 seconds for the parts that I understood. Just the hydrofoil build part so far, I've not even looked at yout kite boarding tuition yet.
    ..
    and free plans! Incredible.
    I hope your business really flies. You deserve it.

    My foils are flat, like yours, but when I ride my brother's curvy Sabfoil I find that I prefer mine, possibly just because I'm used to it. Great series. I'm sure you've inspired many others. Thanks.

      Yeah nice thanks for comment, I agree that I also prefer a flat foil. I think a lot of manufactures are creating more flat foils now too. Might just be a matter of preference but I also prefer it.

    Good work on getting the 5 front wing fixings to perfectly align 👍

      @@FlukesKitesurfing i would like to build a hydrofoil with another geometry than you can buy, but especially the part on how to epoxy is rarely explained in great detail.

    I think you could attach a little scrap of zinc to prevent galvanic corrosion between the steel and aluminum

      Hmm, like a boat... that would be interesting. Never tried that! Not sure how it would go.

    Did you have any reason to think the thinner fuselage was not strong enough? I am trying to figure when enough is enough.

    • @FlukesKitesurfing
      @FlukesKitesurfing  Рік тому

      It is mainly just surface area on the top of the fuse that connects to the underside of the front wing. I found the wider one 25mm makes that connection stronger by helping to reduce the lateral movement of the wing. I haven't had any issues with the thinner (19mm) fuselage for strength itself, but it's the wings attached to it that get damaged if the wing kinks to the side under load. (It can bend the screws and compress into the wing) so the 25mm seems to help fix that (as well as keeping the screws tight, more screws, and additional fibreglass on the underside and top of the wing where the screws are, exactly as shown this video series ) :)

      @@FlukesKitesurfing I really appreciate your response and your willingness to publish these foil building videos!!! Have you tried titanium screws from China instead of stainless? I just got some 6mm and will let you know how they perform.

    Really no anti seize on the threads?

    • @FlukesKitesurfing
      @FlukesKitesurfing  Рік тому

      Yeah Mate for sure, as mentioned best to lubricate the threads. :) Use anti-seize if you plan on having the foil assembled for extended periods of time. Otherwise, just keep the threads lubricated with another oil like the 3in1 I've been using in the series as long as you don't store it assembled. Even WD40 works if you always pull it apart. That's what works for me :)
