      Same! This boat has seriously caught my eye. While we have no immediate plans to cross oceans we have thought about crossing the Atlantic eventually and exploring the Med. Looks like it would be a good boat for a couple to do some serious cruising and I love the idea of being able to stay away from the docks for possibly weeks. I'm wondering how much that tiny crane can lift though because we tend to like a decent sized dinghy. I'm sure you could probably upgrade the crane though.

    I have watched several hundred yacht tours in the last two years. Mostly displacement or semi displacement trawler style anywhere from 30 foot to 60 foot and even some super yachts just for fun. I keep coming back to this N41 as the one for me. I do believe that bought new this little trawler yacht would be the least expensive to maintain and operate. It has the ability to cross an ocean and explore canals and rivers with low underpasses. It’s the versatility that I love so much. It’s only real draw back is the one head, but then I need to remember that I grew up in a household with two parents and four siblings with one bathroom!
    I want to travel the globe using waterways and I am NOT in a hurry. This little N41 is just the ticket to make it happen.

    Think a lot of people have missed the point here, it’s not meant to be a good looking, gin palace for posing on at weekends. It’s a proper live aboard, blue water cruiser capable of crossing oceans. Your average power boat could cross the channel but not much more. I appreciate this boat for what it is, a great piece of engineering with the kind of built in redundancy needed for confidently cruising offshore I have only ever owned sports cruisers, similar to smugglers but I would love to own one of these one day.
    Keep up the great work Nick

    • @paulnorman8274
      @paulnorman8274 2 роки тому +1

      @@taffinator9585 For something simultaneously transpac and canal ready, it's pretty darned impressive. In my book, the best designed Nord in a long time. Looks like something Beebe himself would have liked, after having cruised long enough to give up his military obsession with a separate pilot house for a more social Dashew and Cornell style "great room" cruising experience for an experienced couple.
      Only thing which scared me a bit, was the open "stairwell" in the inline galley, in a boat short enough to pitch a bit... I'm guessing/hoping a divider of sorts could be placed there.
      But twins; designing the boat to work with engines small enough to be simple; the low airdraft; and easy access to everything (although a watertight door to the stabie fin compartment may have been worth it if you hit a "whale" out in the open...).
      Also, the wide side decks. Even if that comes at the expense of an "open, airy" interior and thrown-around-in-a-blow ( :) ) room. Ditto a single cabin option. They're obviously targeting this boat to people intent on using it the way most long range cruisers do: As a long term home for two (2) people. And really good tankage. Not just the miminal needed to make the "longest passage" on a "standard" circumnavigation itinerary. But indeed some capacity to improvise, explore and not suffer range anxiety.
      Heck, I'm not sure, but it may just be light enough to be able to make use of a series drogue, for real belt and suspender types. If so, it's about the only true production "passagemaker" which can. Wouldn't want to bring a drogue for anything this big back on board, but it does beat the alternative should it come down to it. Bigger boats are simply way too big ad heavy, and are stuck relying on their own broach resistance should things go really sideways....
      All in all, I can't really think of much I would change. Aside from the price, obviously, since all boats are costly, and really well engineered, built and specced ones are even more so. But for what you get, this does not at all look to be a bad deal. I bet covid and social distancing have pushed order books long, hence delivery dates far out, though....
      One important thing you do get, by having a boat this "small" despite being "capable", is freedom from having to maintain anything bigger and more complicated all the darned time. It's nice to be on a boat with a full gym, room for toys, an outside bridge, and especially a little dirtbike to crane ashore and get around on. But then it's also nice to have a crew maintaining it all and keeping it clean out in the harsh marine environment. Whereas if I have to do that myself, especially for long cruises and passages, I don't really want much more than I need. And few strictly "need" more boat than this to get wherever they're planning to go. I'd rather travel in this, and put the "savings" over not going bigger into renting a hotel suite somewhere, should I suffer from excessive cabin fewer after a long time on board.
      For now, bopping around the Baleares is about all I have the time and inclination to do on a boat. Rendering any Nordhavn a bit overkill. As well as a bit slow, and lacking in party space for Ibiza. But for more "serious" boating, at an at least somewhat realistic price and level of complexity, this is now a new, clear numero uno on my personal list of powerboats to keep an eye on. Enough so that it's made a Leishman fan out of me. Never thought guys who are now successfully selling boats 20+ times the size and price of this to the rich and famous, would put so obviously much thought and resources into something this practical for more regular boaters.

    • @DrCrabfingers
      @DrCrabfingers 2 роки тому +1

      I was once in love with Nordhavn...until I read accounts from owners who complained of wave slap on the bow. The bow is quite vertical and the incessant pounding of waves onto the bow gives the boats a shuddering feel. The semi displacement hull also isn't conducive to ocean crossing due to allowing the boat to be shifted and moved by following waves that come upon the stern. Semi displacement speeds do however allow the vessel to ramp up in speed to out run an up-coming weather system and return to port before the swell becomes uncomfortable. But for myself I want a flybridge, a hull that delivers stability even in rough seas...I want comfort and economy...and complete reliability.

    The build quality, the fact that a 41' boat has a "utility room", the amount of storage, the fact it has a crane to carry a tender or jetski on the roof & lets not forget nearly three THOUSAND nautical miles of range!

    Great little boat. Love how they upgraded it. Stableizers and the simple non complex engines. Very easy to maintain and trouble shoot. Plus the drop down mast. I expect that this revised model will be a success there and in the U.S. , along everywhere else.

    I love Nordhavn boats. They look rugged and like a boats inside and out, with range and open water capability. I always appreciate the Nordhavn single engine design with the small limp home backup engine design. This one of course has twin engines, but two smaller engines.

    Thanks Nick! That is an amazing boat for only being 41 ft. I didn't expect that amount of space in places like the engine room or for it to have a utility room etc...Nordhavn boats definitely have some of the best layouts and even though this is their smallest it isn't lacking in features or serious ocean going capability. That's a lot of boat for the money IMO.

    Nordhavn never fail to impress, but I think they have really outdone themselves with this N41. An incredible amount of boat there for the size, with the only real sacrifice being that of speed. Sure, the hatch to the utility area seemed like it might be a bit of a pain and a squeeze every time you want to access the larger freezer, or carry some laundry up or down, but that's expected really on any boat under 50'. Heck, most boats under 60' don't even have that much freezer capacity at all (though I do acknowledge many have several times the speed so you'd not need to spend as long between ports either). Amazing little vessel.

    The build quality of these boats is there for all to see -no squeaky chipboard floors here! Not the best looking boat around, but I would take one of these any day (if I had the money!). The ability to just sail off into the sunset and not worry about something breaking down, the long range capability, the comfort, the chance just watch the miles go by at 6 knots and not worry about filling up in another 200 miles....... This could be a best seller!

      I'd like to add ,the rear of the boat with the railings is perfect for fishing (personally i'd insist on holster type gear attached to the railings for safety sake). Under boats like this , lies a huge larder if you know to to catch , despatch and cook.

They where stunning looking as i was not even sure most people knew that they had Launched this New addition. If i was not going to buy a sailboat this would be my choice for sure. Video is great. I think I agree with you but its horses-for-courses.... for a couple sans kids or regular stay over guests this is an awesomely capable bit of kit for spending months going anywhere.... for me, with a wife and two kids, I'm looking more at the Selenes, Flemings, Nordhavn 50+, heck even the Adagio's... all in the 50ft+ category mainly for the 3 berths and the Portuguese bridge.... (I've ruled out Traders, not seaworthy enough from what I've read)

    Ok for those who aren't up on their English lingo. A "hob" was a iron bar that was used to hang a Dutch oven or pot on that would swing over the fire in a fireplace. Our wonderful English brethren have adapted this to refer to a stovetop. As usual once I hear one of these phrases I tend to unconsciously use it in everyday conversations. I'm still working on the phrase "Bang on".
