    YES!! I love cucumber day. Sadly I'm the only one in my family that will eat pickles or relish. My daughter will eat a few slices of fresh cucumber and my boys and husband, not so much. However, my dogs LOVE pureed cucumber added to their food. 🤣 YAY! I can't wait for the squash video!!

      That’s too bad, We love pickles in this house and a haul like this is great for storing many kinds of pickles and making pickled powder. At least you can find a way to use excess for your animals 😊

    I have never made pickled anything before but it’s on my to do list to learn because I love picked okra.
    You mentioned cyanne powder. I made jalapeño powder. Holy smokes! Don’t ever smell it 😅 It will make you cough and choke lol
    Bravo to your husband for cutting all those cucumbers 🥒

    I think I've had more pieces of my fingers sliced off via mandolin than kitchen knife.

      Ouch! I can relate to that. The mandolin requires extra care and attention.

    Cucumber day!!! What an absolute haul you've managed to produce! Are you putting the brine in while it's still warm / hot? I've heard that causes soft pickles. 🤔
    This is my first year growing cucumbers, and these things are just wild. My plant that I had concerns about a few weeks back is just running rampant, and I love it. I started seeing flowers last week, but nothing beyond that. I was fully prepared to pollenate the flowers by hand because I never saw growth, a major disappointment. As I was watering my plants 3 days ago, I noticed I had about a dozen cucumbers that were about 6-7 inches long. So I'll definitely be saving this video for later.

      Cucumbers will sneak up on you and it is easy to miss some behind the leaves. Sometimes I put the brine in hot but pickle crisp helps with the problem of soft pickles.

    Do you use the same brine for peppers or do you have a different recipe?

    • @ShepherdingPeppersFarm
      @ShepherdingPeppersFarm  2 місяці тому +1

      I do a different more basic brine for peppers. I don't like my pickled peppers very sweet, with more crunch and vinegar. I'll do a very when they start coming in more heavily.

    Table salt is safe for canning, but it contains anticaking ingredients that do not dissolve and cause cloudiness. The iodine in iodized salt can cause pickles to darken, discolor, or be spotty.

    • @ShepherdingPeppersFarm
      @ShepherdingPeppersFarm  2 місяці тому

      That’s true, most of the time I use pickling salt but since it is only for our family I will substitute with table salt if I run out in the process.

    Omg that's alot😳🥒🥒 have you ever tried dehydrating them? I'm pondering doing that and making vegetable bullion! Except I usually do t have alot of excess

    • @ShepherdingPeppersFarm
      @ShepherdingPeppersFarm  2 місяці тому

      We tend to dehydrate and make pickle powder but I am sure the process for bullion would work.

    We have cucumber beetles really bad in my 8b high desert area. And they eat EVERYTHING! So started around 25 cucumbers inside. 3 survived. Want to start more but its almost that time for the beetles. The only way I have found to help is insect cloth, and thats a hit or miss. Seeing your harvest is si inspiring! But I have a question. I just harvested my garlic and on all my elephant garlic are these real little garlic cloves on the bottom of the bulb. Do those need to be cured like a head of garlic?

    • @ShepherdingPeppersFarm
      @ShepherdingPeppersFarm  2 місяці тому +1

      I am sorry to hear that about the cucumber beetles. In relation to the garlic, we get those as well, and i have usually taken those small cloves off, chopped them up, and stored them in water in the fridge for minced garlic purposes.

    Question do those large cucumbers turn bitter? I always thought I had to use the small ones

    • @ShepherdingPeppersFarm
      @ShepherdingPeppersFarm  Місяць тому +1

      Sometimes they do. I've always found that if you pickle bitter cucumbers the bitterness is completely replaced by pickle flavor. It's honestly my favorite way to use bitter cucumbers.

    I think you have a typo in the recipe.
    Shouldn’t the line 3 cups of distilled “water” be 3 cups of distilled “vinegar” instead?
