Really glad to see the old style WWMM kind of video. I think you're the only utube woodworking creator that has stuck with your original focus of simple fun projects you don't need a loan to pay for or a master cabinet makers shop and skills to complete. Thank you.

I can see a pair of those in my car trunk, with the pair of fishing rods, and they make a great pair of compact seats you can use when you stop fishing anywhere...nice!

Great timing! I built one of these in woodworking class about 23 years ago. I used that one to model a new one about a month ago, but I didn't have any plans (and didn't think to make any). Now I'd like to build a few more, so this is perfect! Thanks!

I have a very similar design made in plastic that I picked up years ago and use as a portable table for my laptop. I am a network engineer and frequently need to use my laptop to connect to network routers, switches, etc in network closets. I was thinking about copying it in wood for use as a stool, but I think your design is a little more sturdy. I'll "embiggen" the dimensions slightly and make two, one for a chair and one for a table. Great video Steve.

One of my favorite projects I've been making these for several years now. I sell them at craft shows and flea markets some doll collectors use them as display stands for their dolls. I occasionally will add some carving on the seat using a router.

Built this chair this past weekend. Had some trouble with the dowels being smaller than advertised, but some glue on one half of the joint did wonders. Love the chair and I’m not a small guy and it holds me just fine. I’d like to thank Steve for making these videos. I enjoy watching you make things and explaining all the “stupid” questions some of us may have. Keep doing what your doing for all us weekend builders who just want to make something occasionally. I, for one, greatly appreciate it!

Downloaded this a few weeks ago and finally put it together today. First try was a disaster but I watched the video again and things went much better. finished product works great but looks terrible, so I'll be trying this again. The plans are great and the video is great. If your first attempt at this doesn't go well, stick with it. Rebuild it or build another one. I hope to make more of these and hopefully get better at it. Thanks, Steve!

    Great folding seat!
Make sure your dowel is a snug fit,
but not so tight it splits the wood.
Also, the closer to quarter-sawn the wood grain is,
    (end-grain crossing the thickness of the 1 x 2s)
the more resistant to splitting this project will be.

I tacked mine in with a brad at 1 point of the dowels side to the leg. That way it still opens, but won't work it's way out. Make sure you evaluate the whole structure before you brad it in, one wrong brad and it won't open!

I enjoy steve's projects. The plans are good but watch the video . I found some tricky parts in assembly just looking at the plans. Make sure the parts fit together well before putting the reinforcing cross pieces or the parts don't fit well. I'll call my first attempt a prototype. I'll have to build another and use nonscrap quality wood.

My dad made those back in the 70's along with a table that folded like the chair. I made them in the 90's and I still have 4 of them that I use every day. They are easy to make and last a long time. If you put a brad in one leg where the dowels are they will not move and won't work out of there holes.
