Great idea, only one drawback...... This case will end up being like 30 pounds plus a guitar! Use thinner wood next time to lighten up your cases. Only reason I know this is because I did the same thing......but we learn by trial and error ! Great video!
Couple of improvements: 1)make a pocket in the lid so you can close the case with thremolo bar installed 2)make storage pockets on either side of the headstock 3)might have to offset the case handle towards the body to balance the case 4)install TSA approved lock
@@ArtturiSalmela dropping a circular saw maybe, really just dropping anything. The point of the comment was that work like this shouldn't be done in flip flops.
that is one HEAVY DUTTY guitar case, nice! It does need one modification, need more support for the body inside the case so that the guitar does not slide, need to prevent the headstock form hitting the side if the case. Do this and you have one super solid case to protect your guitar.

So nice comment, thank you for that!, I was thinking that this case could be used with different guitar shapes, but including extra support will be helpful if you use the case with only one guitar
Very nice build and a helpful video, f'sure. A few things I'd comment about tho:- * I'd drill and screw the 'end' pieces instead of using a staple gun, as the twisting action the case may be subject to will gravitate to those joints and they could rupture the whole case. * I'd use a stiffer foam, particularly all the surfaces NOT in the lid. The bumps and bashings the case will likely experience will still make their way into the instrument as it's not being supported enough. * When fitting the hardware (hinges and clasps in particular), I'd use masking tape right around the whole box, so the parts couldn't move at all relative to each other. Again, a very nice build. Thanks for posting. Edit: There's certainly a lot of personal value in the project (Heck, I've built a dozen or more similar cases, mainly for keyboards and computer gear)... but 'in the greater scheme of things' I'd still consider the hours and work (and possibility of injury) involved ... and perhaps opt for the $150+ version from a local music shop 😁
Hi, I know people are talking about the weight of it so I have a question. Between a plywood case compared to your pine case, how much difference? I realize it depends on the thickness of the plywood. Thanks
Good job. But I think you could use thinner material on the lid and on the floor, to make it lighter. And also put more material on the side of the guitar to prevent it from swinging. But very good. (google translate)

Thank you Ixra, that sounds great but cannot be strong enough, a 16 mm plywood looks like a balance between weight and hardness, about the inside I wanted a case which I can use with another guitars but can be used foam and the guitar shape for making a better fit case
I created a case using plywood that was 12 mm thick after seeing this video, but the case is still extremely heavy and even heavier with the guitar inside it. I didn't realize it till after I had performed the task entirely. Can I now cut the casing a little triangularly using a jigsaw? My electric guitar is shaped like an explorer. Will the tolex, foam, and wood be sliced by the jigsaw?

As long as you are aware of where your hands are your fine and personally I dislike push sticks because I don’t feel like I have a lot of control over my cuts
as long as you have full control of the material, and pay attention nothing to be scared of. i've pushed wood threw table saws inches away from the saw many time's without a push stick and still have all my hands
The guitar is an Aria ST-1802/3 made in the early 70's. I have 3 different variations of the same guitar - nice case build - have done a few myself, but yours is nicer - I think though that the front and back are a little thick - would suggest using more like 1/8 or 3/16 ply or masonite - you'd cut the weight in half! Did you really only use the contact glue on one side of everything? Usually it's recommended to brush both surfaces with it..
@ wow that's quite impressive actually . Thankyou so much for posting this video :) . It really helped out a lot. I'm not interested in spending 2 3hundred ..lol
@ I've been pricing new cases. Any where from $80 to $300. You did well. I'm building one from scrap wood and even then it is costing me $30-$50 for hardware, paint, glue covering, etc. If the main drawback is that the case is a little heavy,.........Who cares?

Good video. I agree that it looks very heavy but if that's what your looking for then all good. Personally I would use around 5mm plywood. Some of the ones you but from shops are made partly from cardboard.
He’s wearing flip flops. No guards on his table saw. Drywall screws with weak butt joints. Also, this is a very heavy case. I would be ashamed to show anyone this case.
I did it myself with the Woodglut plans. I think this is the best way to find out how to build it.

Absolutely agreed. I have used 1/2" (1.3cm) stock and they are plenty sturdy. I plan to go thinner next time.
Next video, how to make a refrigerator truck to move a homemade guitar case.

What good will a lock do? If someone were to steal it, they would just grab the case handle with guitar inside and take it all, LOL
watching him use that table saw makes me wonder how long he will have all of his fingers.
And not wearing proper footwear makes me wonder how long until he drops a spinning blade onto his foot.
he still have 10 fingers, so no worries. LOL

The heaviest guitar case ever!
If nothing else, this is definitely the right way to make a “how to” video: speed it up, no talking, play music, and throw in some tool sounds.
That's a great definition, thank you!

Like. Simply for the fact that it's a DIY with no frigging ukelele background music. Can I get an Amen?

Not bad considering he used a 200 year old table saw and a branch for a straight edge.
