The Garlic Mosquito thing is an awesome one. I made garlic oil with extremely much garlic in it and if I go fishing, hiking or biwaking, I always carry a little bottle of it. It even works better than antibrum and the other industrial repellants. Just a few drops rubbed on the arms, neck and legs and these pesky mossis seek the far.
Awesome hacks - lmao. "Mosquitos dislike the smell of garlic" - so do I ! Pine cones for water-purification? If you boil water, all harmful pests and bacteria are destroyed even without pine cones adding their taste- and boiling it for 15 minutes will leave you with a significant lower water level in the pot. 2-3 minutes of a rolling boil are quite sufficient, I never had an issue with it. Broken glass as a knife - in order to not cut yourself, instead of using 'the dullest part of the shard' grab a stone and dull one or two sides yourself. Water collection from plants with plastic bags - at the end of the day each bag gives you just a mouthful of water - how many bags do you need to stay hydrated? My guess is 50-100 - and you have to stay put and can't move to get out of the situation. The same for the 'solar still' with plastic - green leaves contain not enough water for hydration, but a usable method to clean dirty water. In a hot environment the water may not condense, spray some water on top of the plastic to cool it down. Overall it seems to me that you put together some random tips you heard about without testing all of them - I don't think your grandpa told you, he for sure didn't want you to kill yourself.
Need a bit of updating. Some good points but most seem to be either plain common sense or old school, learned when you were a child. If you filter water with recently made charcoal from a wood fire, you will more likely make lye water, like they used in old days to add to lard to make soap, not very tasty or healthy; so be careful with that one. The shoe string turned into a bow string would be tough for me now days, as my shoes use velcro, short elasticized string with knot at ends (so you do not have to tie & cannot come undone), or zip up the side 😂. Joke, I do still have lace up hiking boots, but someone actually prepared for hiking is less likely to get in a position to need substitute tools. 🤷🏼♀️ I guess we can all get caught off guard though.

Hope I never have to use any of these tips but I learned something!
You never know when a skill might come in handy!
