As someone from Kerala it was considered elite to watch Bollywood movies in the 2000s. Some elite wannabe people used to say "oh I only watches Hollywood and Bollywood movies not Malayalam or Tamil those are for the low class"😂

    It depends upon audience quality.
Success and failure of type of movies from different industries shows quality of audience.

It is limited by the less number of audience, which is in part because of the less population in Kerala. But as we can see with the success of Munjummel Boys and Premalu among Tamil and Telugu audience, the growth of the industry will now depend on how much the other industry viewers are ready to watch Malayalam movies. And when that happens more consistently it could be more successful than other industries. Just like how Kannada now has a high market, considering the success of KGF, Kantara and 777 Charlie throughout India.

They were always a notch up since the beginning... primarily because it had writers with rich literary background in the helm of affairs and immensely talented actors.... those could be counted as one among all time greatest.... Writers like M T Vasudevan nair, aravindan, padmarajan, etc., and actors like p j Anthony, kodiyettam gopi, thilakan, nedumudi venu, oduvik unnikrishnan, jagathy Sreekumar, murali, Mohanlal....the list goes on...

Malayalam movies have always bagged top spots in national awards right from 1960 bcoz of the top notch writing, direction and performances . It’s Jst that the industry garnered a wider audience lately. There are plentiful noteworthy movies in 70s, 80s n 90s across various genres. Would definitely share some of the favourite picks !!

The production of biopics and hidden agenda films in succession must first come to a halt. Now a days, primary force behind modern Bollywood is fake propaganda. It must come to an end. Hey, you're much above the ordinary man's realm. It wasn't the previous kind; in the past, going to the movies was a cheap family entertainment option, but these days, the ordinary guy can't afford to take his family to the movies due to cost. Therefore, they check to see if the movie is worth their money before heading to the theater.

The spoon feeding in hindi movies is just downright stupid.... it just questions the intelligence of the audience.... you don't need to explain everything in movies, the audience have an intelligence and they will understand what the director says through his movies.
Leaving it to their imagination is also a good way to extract alternate ideas. That is seen in a lot of Malayalam movies.

*Malayalam movies use language to a LEVEL never explored in other movies* ... one example is the way Fahad Fasil talks in Aavesham.
Some movies have different ways Malayalam is spoken eg people from North Kerala, Fort Cochin, Trichur and Trivandrum speak markedly different Malayalam... Unfortunately this is something which cannot be enjoyed by a non malayali.
50% of the attraction of Malayalam movies is it's use of language ... old style, new slang, etc.
As a avid Malayalam movie guy, I would rate Aavesham as an okay dokie movie ... as has been all the recent saussage fest where no heroines have been cast... be it in goatlife, Manjumal Boys, Aavesham, Bramayugam, Romanjam, Varshangalke Shesham.
Goat life is an extended version of Arabikatha... Arabikatha & Kadhama are much more entertaining and heart touching.
Of all the above saussage fest I would rate Varshangalke Shesham as the better one.
*Aavesham was ONLY about FAFA... Was the rest of the cast purposely kept bleak? & Dark?* The kids were rank newbies... and was no match to FAFA... huge acting gap... I think that is where the movie floundered... If it did.
Guys go to banglore to drink? Standing in staircases? And crap 3rd class bars? Not in hi quality Pubs?
Didn't these people know that people who go to Bangalore to study are above average income group?
Basically Aavesham had FAFA roaring on one side and 3 boys going to college to drink & dance. Is that all boys do in college? Drink & dance?
If you remove FAFA aspect... the film is outright crap.

    • @ReelRealReflect
      @ReelRealReflect  5 днів тому

Very elaborately put! While the movie doesn’t have a lot of artistic value in terms of the storyline, it still stands better than most “masala” films sold in Bollywood. At least the characters are written with some effort, the acting is good and the music/bgs was apt.
I shall watch Varshangalke Shesham, thanks for listing out the other movies! 🙂

Bollywood is completely based on bombay culture which is an international city... It donot have the back support of an organic conventional culture unlike malayalam, tamil, kannada or thelungu... Or like bengali marathi or bhijpuri assam film industries which are now weak but can perish in future.. So if bollywood want to return to its glory then it had to shift its mumbai centric approach and wants to diversify its working scope to states like UP HARYANA etc which had a organic conventional base then bollywood can make movie based upon culture like article, danga, swadesh, tumpad etc untill then a comeback is impossible for bollywood

I completely agree, that's a good observation. The Bollywood audience is so large that there is no common ground to relate to whereas other industries have a shared culture to cultivate good stories.
