Many years ago when I was having severe GI issues (ended up having to have my gallbladder removed) my mom had a large container of lemon balm. Making that tea every day while I was waiting for a diagnosis was a lifesaver.

So I'm curious what kinds of tea you'd drink in winter ? Do you dry your plants and steep tea from that, do you grow plants inside the house or plan on building a greenhouse maybe or just use store bought ?

Would love to hear more about your tea recipes as well 💚 Also wondering what you do when winter hits; do you dry & store your herbs or do you keep some plants inside with grow lights? I have been loving Holy Basil/ Tulsi Basil this summer (has some amazing healing properties), but peppermint is also a solid favorite. I must try to get my hands on a chocolate one as well after watching this video 🥰

Excited to have found your channel! Great beginner list. Yarrow is also easy, native, and can be used in a myriad of ways. It's important for gardeners to start thinking more locally and saving what is actually native around us. If you are in the North East I'm surprised you didn't mention American Wintergreen or Tea berry, Gaultheria procumbens. Also very easy ground cover, great for shade, the most amazing mint flavor ever, and such an important plant that is native to your area.

Thank you for sharing this information. I’m interested in growing herbs for homemade teas and this was very helpful. I’m also in the northeast and my garden has a lot of shady areas and I lose a lot of plants to deer, bunnies, woodchucks and many other woodsy critters, so I know what a challenge it is growing certain plants and flowers. Next year I will try growing the chocolate peppermint and pineapple sage. I hope you will share some more tea recipes!

"For every illness, there is a plant." I love herbal/medicinal tea. I really want to try that pineapple sage and chocolate mint tea! It sounds delicious! Thank you for sharing! I drink mint tea everyday so I'm pretty excited about this. I grow my own medicinal herbs too. I have two herbs for you that I think you will like. They are both easy to grow and like shady woodland conditions: Wood Betony and Sweet Violets. Wood Betony is very calming. Violets are very soothing to the system. Also, do you watch a UA-camr called Herbal Jedi? Yarrow Willard is a local herbalist who generously shares his healing plant knowledge in such a harmonious and caring way. Highly recommend!

Awesome tips Anna, I love the teapot and mug! I share your enthusiasm for herbs and am planting some in containers so the ease of growing tips were very helpful, and you’ll save me the trouble trying to grow lavender in shade. 😂
Lemon balm is so interesting to me since just a pinch of dried herb helps me focus, as well as relax, a fascinating combo compared to other herbs like chamomile. I have seeds to plant it to grow my own. I will try the chocolate mint and pineapple sage, that sounds wonderful and appreciate the recipe!
I wanted to share that I’ve recently also gotten a couple of young plants from Etsy to grow so I can stop buying teas - Bacopa monnieri (Ayurvedic herb, good for memory, focus, etc) and Jiaogulan or “Jiao Gulan” (“longevity” herb, can be invasive - so pot grow only). I am happy to say both of these have proven easy to grow for me in the only part sun (I’m in zone 9 btw). 😊🪴
