I loved this lesson!! I did not feel you were romanticizing being poor or in poverty. You were teaching that people in poverty can be happy & feel blessed.
I lived in poverty (American standards of poverty) and my mom would always talk about God & how blessed we were. I never understood what she meant until I served my mission in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Then I knew what she meant!!! My mom & Javier are great examples of looking to Christ & counting your blessings.
Again, this was a wonderful lesson & you both are doing an excellent job!! God bless!!💙💙💙

I wish you guys would make longer vids! Like it can be an hour or more and I would gladly watch and be engaged the entire time! I've learned so much from you both and wish you could share so much more without having to restrict the time to 30 mins when there's so much to unpack in some of the chapters. Despite that, you guys are doing a great job and I look forward to wrapping up my studies with your additional insights! Thanks 'Cooper' and Emily! You guys are seriously the best!

I really appreciated this lesson. When you started talking about being blessed and feeling gratitude it reminded me of a situation that my husband and I found ourselves in in the fall of 2016. It was Thanksgiving here in Canada as well as our anniversary. So we planned a small weekend getaway to celebrate. As it turned out though just before we were able to get away 3 members of our family ended up in the hospital (three different hospitals). My father was in for a very serious case of pneumonia, my granddaughter who had to go back in for complications she was having with her heart (she was born with a congenital heart condition and had just spent 400 days in a special heart ICU), and my son who had just been diagnosed as schizophrenic was hospitalized in a psych ward for the first time.
As we were driving between cities and different hospitals we were feeling very overwhelmed and distraught and decided we needed something to help us cope. So we decided that because it was thanksgiving we should find something to be thankful for. As we started to list our gratitude list we started to find more things to be thankful for and even started to find some joy in what we were doing. We were grateful that we had a car that could take us to see everyone, we knew our family members were being well taken care of, and we knew our Father in Heaven was aware of us and our needs. In the end we had some great moments visiting in each of these visits we made.
I refer to this weekend as our ability to find joy in the midst of chaos.

I am so sorry you had to go through all of that at the same time. My mother is schizophrenic. She was diagnosed when I was a young girl. She's been hospitalized many times & it is heartbreaking to watch. A few years ago we were able to get her on an injection that has really stabilized her. Trying to get her to take pills was a nightmare! She would take them & then be convinced that God had healed her. Then she would stop taking them & end up in the hospital again!! This was the cycle my entire life. Now with this shot she is so much better!! She even has her own apartment.
God bless you & your family!! I hope you have a wonderful doctor (& treatment) for your son. It's truly amazing that you were able to focus on blessings & be grateful for what God had given you. 💙💙💙

Wow, I love how you broke down this chapter. I understood better that Jesus wants us to be whole and these verses help us to be thank of all that comes into our lives. We grow from every event and learn to be close to Heavenly Father. Thank you again for this video. Love from Florida.

That was great! I was reading the Beatitudes with my teenage daughter last night and trying to answer the question from the manual about how these teach you true happiness. We just laughed thinking, you have to be miserable to be happy. But you explained it so much better and beautifully. I really needed the extra insight and a way to put things into words. Thank you. I would love to get your weekly news letter. I signed up, but I have not yet got one.

Oh this is awesome! When you guys talked about going to the mount where Jesus did this, it got me even more excited because I'm going there in a week and a half! Thanks for the amazing lessons, they've helped me prepare for the trip. The Come Follow Me curriculum has been amazing and a great timing to go to Israel.

I had a thought about this. The other chapters were about healing water 💧 for those that thurst. When salt is put in water electricity happens. The light is healing... it lights up the darkness.
This is a natural law a God law.

"In that matchless Sermon on the Mount, Jesus has given us eight distinct ways by which we might receive ... joy.... These declarations of the Master are known ...as the Beatitudes and have been referred to ... as the preparation necessary for entrance into the kingdom of heaven.... They embody in fact the constitution for a perfect life." (Decisions for a Successful Living, 56)

Thank you for sharing. I like to listen, but I have to weigh in on the first part of this lesson. I have a problem with the idea of "happy are the poor". Poverty - lacking a reliable source of life's necessities (food, shelter and clothing), is not a happy place! I'm shocked that you romanticized it. The concept in the Sermon on the Mount is not about living in poverty. It is about being poor in spirit (humble) and coming unto Christ. Its not about the worldly things you have or don't have. Its about what is IMPORTANT to you. If you care more about money than you do about others or God, then you may not have true happiness in your life.
The comment about not wanting to be around the "stars" is tricky (around 5:40). Careful not to make huge generalizations like that. President Nelson has a lot of money and he is very famous, but he lives by the teachings in the Sermon on the Mount and so he is happy. I would love to be around him!
