Hi Seb!! If you're ever wanting to take a breather from reacting to true crime, Stephanie also has another podcast called Moral of The Story which is definitely lighthearted in comparison and around pop culture!! I'm always so grateful whenever a new episode is released because they're palette cleaners for me! No obligation or pressure btw! I just wanted to provide a suggestion/option since taking in so much true crime content can be tolling! Anyway, as for this case I literally cannot fathom that this happened in the 80's/90's!!!! I never would've imagined something like this took place so recently. That in itself is already incredibly disturbing but then the details of what was done to those innocent citizens, majority of which were CHILDREN, and the reason for why it all happened is just so beyond disgusting on so many levels. I had to take breaks from this episode because my brain had difficultly processing the fact that those survivors aren't even that much older than most millenial's parents.
I do understand your frustration seb about how any of this was possible or allowed to go on for as long as it did but I have to remind you that this was during the time SK was ruled by a terrible dictator so majority of the crimes committed like SA would easily go unpunished ( i mean even today rapists don't really get punishment in sk) same goes for the rest of the atrocities committed. Also all the guards are monsters like cho do soon who have no morals whatsoever and are enjoying being able to freely commit crimes like abuse and sa that they probably dreamed of committing .
In part 3, Stephanie did mention some of the guards was victims that being promoted as guard. There's no details on this since none of these guards were speaking, but it clear from the details that Stephanie mentioned, that victim turn guard was also traumatized.
@@karibills6243And the fact that the dictator could just stand by this. I know there are actually some really good hardworking dictators who work for their country like the one from Rwanda, even though the title stands out as “evil,” it’s upsetting that everything just went ignored. Thousands died and nobody bats an eye. Hundreds died during the sewol ferry and government didnt bat an eye. There’s a common theme of ignorance going on in korea when situations happen.
@@scorpiongurlz89 I know the victims said they were treated like animals but the guards doing the torture and sa are the real animals. Some people are just sadistic.
Except in true life, people weren't given a choice to participate. They were taken off the street, homeless people, poor people, mentally ill people, handicapped people. Nobody was given a choice, and the "pastor" who organized and enriched himself from brother's home never paid for his crimes.
What makes me angry was, even the owner of Brothers Home get away with the crime, at least people know their face. What about the cops that brought the victims in. Their identities never reveal.
I know that there is a lot of similarities between this and Squid Game BUT this sounds soooo much like the drama Blind. The plot is like the escaped kids who are now adults plan revenge on the adults all connected. It’s really good. Seeing this that it was REAL yeaaah I don’t blame any of them if they did plan revenge Yeah after watching the whole video I’m HEAVILY convinced the drama Blind was written about this. Seb you gotta watch it one day. Taeceyeon from 2PM is in it
Seb is happy Steph releasing new video, and I'm happy Seb releasing new video watching Steph 😂 I can't watch her content by myself, it stresses me out too much, I need someone to watch with, and Seb's vibe doesn't annoy me like other UA-camrs who also watch Steph 😊👫
I just read this now> From fact check article, squid game isn't inspired by 1986 incident. The images were AI. "Series director Hwang Dong-hyuk explicitly stated that Squid Game was inspired by his personal hardships and his observations of extreme socioeconomic inequality in South Korea. He drew additional inspiration from Japanese dystopian works like Battle Royale and Liar Game." Today's my first time learning about Brothers home incident as korean American. My parents only told me about Gwangju massacre long time ago when we watched two korean movies about Gwangju massacre. Choon doo hwan was evil😢
I think he has to say that it isn't inspired by those events because it would really make Korea look bad and would make him look bad that he is exploiting his country.
12:29 Seb, I also think now realizing, the recruiter guy was making it known how the games went. In the first season, people actually had a choice to go home after the first game? some stayed and the ones who left then chose to come RIGHT back. Season 2, people had the right to vote several times to leave the game after each death game. So many chose to stay. So it’s not so much as manipulation, but greed in the human soul. They had several chances to turn around, but ruined it for those who wanted to truly leave. The recruiter, he gave people several choices to pick the bread, and they chose to pick the lottery. one guy took the smart way and took the bread for food. Him stomping on the bread seemed to be a metaphor for the frontman killing all those people after THEIR choice. You chose to throw this bread away. At first I thought he was just evil and did this for sh* and giggles, but now i’m realizing the show was letting us know that greed can make you do things that you would never do in a clear mindset. It’s like you didn’t tell the student what to score above the grade, they got a 40, but you failed a student. You gave them several retakes and studied with them so they could make a higher grade, even though you didn’t tell them the passing grade, and they still fail after number 7. You are the one who failed yourself at this point. Yeah, you weren’t told the passing grade, but shouldn’t your instinct be to try to get a 100? I showed you the consequences of your actions. You should know you wouldn’t just easily get that amount of money over games. Yes? they came into the game unaware of the death, but after the thought, they still chose to stay after seeing the death in Red light Green light. It is ultimately upon them. Nothing in this world is free. It was their first mistake to trust that 45billion won would simply just be an in and out elimination.
@@likelyoolikemetoo yeah, sometimes we see things in movies and be like there's no way it can happen in reality but anything can happen and probably had already happened
Her stephanie soo channel has good stories too. Shes able to make jokes and have more of a back and forth with her husband which is always fun with them. Her most recent video about a wealthy married couple trying an open relationship was soooo good!! Her missmangobutt channel is my favorite tho because its just her everyday life vlogs/clips so she gets to be more relaxed and joke more. Her vlogs are mainly with her family which youd get to know a lot as well❤❤
Well I think the Olympics do have something to with it not just for Tourisim but sponsoring the idea that you can make fight people, let them play "games" for just a piece of medal & money and the capitol (chaebol) inhabitants are kept unedcuated and blind. I think it's actually quiete the analogy for our times since the Roman times. Just matched to the decade's we've grown up and are living in. The books that come to mind are 1984 George Orwell, The Hunger Games, Divergent and probably so many more all over the 7 contients I'm not even aware that they exist. Dramas obviously Squid Game & Blind reading the title and doobey do here.
It's not like Squid Game, it's just compared bc people were held hostage in like a detention center being abused, neglegted, starving... it has nothing to do with Squid Game.
