The Speaker was like the best damn character in the Red War, it’s a shame he was killed before getting more of him in the DLC
so he didn’t lie, just double-spoke. half truths. savathun would be proud.
Only once did the traveler have a voice, while we were getting the power back in Redwar EDZ. It sounded like an echo of species. A recording. It echoed like the witness but in a child's like voice. And so I still believe it's a construct, housing/transfering the gardener essence. Make sense why it would have purity inside--what ghost said in first TFS mission
@@antonioussthe traveler didn’t speak to him like directly. Like the traveler constantly podcasting to every but he could pick up those broadcasts sometimes even if not meant for him. And he interrupted what he saw and heard “speaking” for the traveler

@@erikreyes42Thorn was never a random drop afaik.
It was originally one of the exotic bounties that ended by doing a special version of Phogoth. Then it came back in rise of iron. Then it came back again in D2 during Season of the Drifter.
I could be wrong but I genuinely don't remember it being a random drop ever.

The traveler was powerful enough to recreate the car we died under but couldn't bring the speaker back.
Because it doesn't bring people back. Only ghosts do.
@@isaacwright6522 Yeah, and the only reason Cayde is back is thanks to Crow using an Ahamkara and wishing him back, so, sadly we won't see the Speaker again, but I mean, at least Cayde is here.

I like that he was just a human, not a guardian. The city is mostly human and having a leader that has common mortality must have been comforting for the people
No he was a Guardian. In one of the early trailers, it’s even in this UA-cam short, is shows him speaking in a pre last city place.

@@RaspyCh I'll also mention before the collapse there were many people like the speaker but after the collapse I think it was that the dreams stopped, or people stopped being born with the ability to hear the travler. but sometime later a speaker made the mask to boost his connection to the traveler and then ig it was passed down
I believe the traveller did speak to him at one point but it stopped and he just didn't tell anyone

I actually played the Red War campaign in 2017 and the Speaker in the cutscene saying for the bad guy to kill himself was badass
It would’ve been cool if he was inside the traveler like cayde, reborn in light for his service to the traveler and now actually able to hear the traveler’s voice
Cayde came back because of a wish not because of the Traveller. The Traveller doesn't want to be served or want people worshipping it. It just likes giving out gifts and fostering community. It doesn't want service in return.

Honestly starting playing During the red war was amazing. Seeing the speaker tied down and tormented only to tell ghaul to kill himself it was a great end for him.

I agree. with the speaker being such an important character youd figure theyd want him to stick around for the final shape as a way for the traveler to communicate to our guardians and come up with the best possible outcome of kicking the witnesses ass cheeks. plus thats another vender we can have in the tower for missions, bounties, items etc etc.
Perhaps like cayde he'll come back

@@MissToAssistunlike the prior speakers, his connection to the traveler was weak and he needed a device he built into his mask to amplify his connection.
Now that I think about it; If the guardian wasn't a looting God slayer, they'd probably make a better speaker. During the red war, the guardian was able able to receive a vision from the traveler, while lightless and the traveler was suppressed. As well, there has been missions since where the traveler has guided the guardian to new abilities and exotics.

We never really get multiple characters in new destinations. Interactable ones anyway, and I'm sure Cayde will be on vendor duty for FS. Would be cool tho, bring back his stylish class items. Better yet, have him give us a quest to get an exotic one.

If my theory about the traveler bringing people back to life in the Final Shape is right, then the speaker may return in the pale heart of the traveler
He wasn’t just a normal human, normal humans only live for 250-300 years. the dark age/city age lasted for 700 years before our guardian even woke up. The Zavala trailer shows us the Speaker with Shaxx and Saladin meaning he was alive when the iron lords broke up the warlords and everyone officially became “Guardians”. The battle of Twilight Gap and the Moon invasion was 300 years before our revival. So he lived even longer than that particular event…
He and cayde six has the coldest last words arguably in gaming history
Speaker’s fit woulda gone hard as ornament drip, especially for the warlocks. On the other note, speaker and ghaul’s scenes were lowkey the best of the whole campaign, unmatched until forsaken came out.

That was just a ghost, theres many ghosts in the lore that dont have a guardian. There's also enough lore books and grimoire that explain the speaker was still human.
fun fact: if you go down to zavala's officein the tower (d2) you can see the speaker's mask being preserved in a glass case to your right as you enter
I probably one of the only ones but i actually enjoyed hearing his stories and i made it a goal to read the books they put in our inventory ir d1 and d2 i just really enjoy hearing the stories and the stories of how the traveler speaks and how it thinks
I definitely think the Speaker was just using his ability to hear the traveler just to gain power and only tell people certain things

Appearantly the mask helped him actually understand the traveler, but when he listened, all he could hear was agony and screams. He was the speaker though, and as not to terrify everyone, he chose to make things up, so he could keep inspire, motivate, and lift everyones spirits when they needed it most.
As to why the traveler was in pain, i don't know much anymore, it had to do with the fact that it was "stuck" in place with humanity, and couldn't go anywhere. (i think?) There may have been more to it, but as of right now i rlly don't know anymore.

Iirc there are people who had a strong connection to the light long before the Collapse and could communicate or hear the traveler in their dreams. Since the Traveler went quiet after the collapse however they could no longer communicate with the Traveller. The mask that the Speaker wears is actually a tool that amplifies the signal from the Traveller allowing the Speaker to hear the Traveller’s dreams.

The speaker was deadass my favorite character even over Cayde-6 I finished the Red War campaign in RECORD BOOK level time because I was so angry, I actually had physical outrage, at least he dropped one of the 2 best one liners in destiny history
I like to think he was more of a spiritual leader. Advocator of the traveller centric philosophy, rather than just hearing the traveller.
He was the head of the faith that 90% of the basically military faction of the guardians was into

The speaker was a much bigger part of the orginal story. Voice actor got pissed cuz he recorded lines for entire game then they just cut it so we didnt care to do more. Happened with alot of characters that were supposed to be more important to the orginal game.

Bro the speaker was goated. Miss the old days of destiny. Light fall is legitimately depressing to play if you were there in the beginning. Super bummed that Destiny 2 red war was taken out, lost so much content in 2 it’s abysmal. Destiny 1 was the prime era from Crotas End to Taken king though.

After the Final shape there are a lot of mixed feelings. I do appreciate the sentiment shown for the roots of destiny. The sacrifice made by our beloved vanguard was a good one. I finally started to enjoy crow as a character in the storyline. And above all it gave me just a little hope that we can have something as good as the invasion of Oryx again. Keep you heads and your eyes up Guardians, the future could be a bright one. Although if the new development between Saint 14 and Osiris tells us anything, it’s that the future isn’t looking good for us old halo/Titans players. Sweet baby INC has infiltrated bungee and rotted it from within. May god have mercy on us all

I miss the speaker, going to him weekly to see what new or unique cloack or titan mark he was selling was enjoyable, i loved his speeches, i genuinely miss destiny 1, hopefully one day soon they remaster it and port it to pc, flaws and all id play it again right now
Kind of a nothing character in D1 (despite his lore importance) but man did respect levels for him sky rocket in D2 with that iconic line 😂😂

No, the speaker was a guardian. In D1, a ghost can always be seen with him similar to how the vanguard and Shaxx have their ghosts out. Also, he’s seen in the Zavala trailer in the very first days of the Last City which is likely hundreds of years before D1. Even with elongated human life spans in Destiny, he wouldn’t be able to live that long as a normal human.

With the Final Shape, I really want Cayde to become the new Speaker. Because we've been lacking in that character for a looooooong time.
