Growing up, this scene and the lead in from Marvel-Ann's sick room to the large lighted Christmas tree in front of the castle always got me in the Christmas spirit, especially when they broadcast the movie on TV in November or early December.
Apparently, the nuns must have sung three more Christmas songs, in that chapel scene, which were excluded in the film. The original soundtrack, VERY rare, was remastered amd rereleased by Intrada Special Collections in 2015 (not sold at Amazon or uploaded anywhere to hear I can find). That release has the films 49 music tracks, taken off either the film master or original film music master. It includes Deck the Halls, Joy to the World, and one other Christmas song I can’t remember, at the end. They were music outtakes, bring the track total to 52 songs. If you can find that out of print CD, new, packaged, it is easily worth over $200 on the collectible market. The cover matches THIS cover. You do not want the blue, modern graphic, 2015 release (it omits this song, by the way).
I must be be getting old(er)...Actually, I have all the contents of the release you are talking about, including the extra Christmas carols. I'm not finding the actual CD (it must be around somewhere), but I had copied the cuts on to my computer. I remember paying a bit for it - under $100, but I just saw it online for between $174 (eBay) and $496 (Amazon). I guess people like it.
"Away In The Manger" is the 3rd song included as an extra on the soundtrack. All three are used during the visit to senior womens' residence. The girls sing "Deck The Halls", while "Joy To The World" and "Away In The Manger" are used as background music as the scene goes along. I bought a copy of the Intrada soundtrack cd on ebay quite a few years ago, and for alot less than what it is going for now. Merry Christmas!
Always loved this movie

Interesting - hadn't heard about that. I'm just grateful to have found this one that had more music than the standard release if I recall.
