  • I lay in my tent half asleep and I can hear the sound of rolling thunder in the distance. As I listen to the rumble it seems to be getting closer and closer. The thunder now starts to sound like the beating of drums, slowly getting louder as if someone is increasing the volume on a radio one decimal at time. I now feel my heart rate increasing, the closer and louder rumble becomes the more my heart begins to race until my heart rate matches same beat as the pounding of the drums. Just then I realize it’s not sound of thunder or drums at all, but the pounding of hooves as they meet the earth’s surface. I rush out of my tent to see thousands of buffalo running through the meadow and barreling straight for me like a runaway train and I am standing on the tracks. In an instant the herd of buffalo is rushing pass me I can feel the wind as they pass by. But as they pass, they disappear one by one, vanishing and turning into dust. I look down to see that I am standing with one foot on the edge of the meadow and the other on a concrete sidewalk. I turn around to look behind me and I see there is a large city with tall buildings, bright lights, people shouting, and exhaust fumes rising from power plants. I then realize I am standing on the edge of civilization and sound of the rumbling hooves has morphed into the sound of honking car horns. I turn back to the meadow to see one last buffalo heading my way. I try to shout and make it turn around, but no words come out. My voice is gone, and the buffalo continues to close the distance towards me. The buffalo strikes me in the chest and with that jolt I wake up in my bed. This has been a reoccurring dream since February 21st, the day of the Alaskan draw tags.

9 months late, but hey, congratulations! We've got a good number of bison here in the Yukon as well, with numbers high enough we don't have draws (yet). I always get a moose every fall, but this year changing it up to a bison. Good film fella's, well done.

Thank you! Tried to portray a more valuable perspective then just the hunt. This hunt meant a lot to me.

You can literally walk up to them. Not sure why the long shot.

Maybe with some herds, there was a lot of open ground between the herd and us made concealment virtually impossible. As soon as we walked into the opening after I shot my bull the herd took off.

Winchester 300 win mag. With a single 190 Grain Winchester expedition long range bullet. He took it like a champ at first then grouped up with the others so I thought. But really just took about 15 steps into the tree line a tipped over.

The American bison or buffalo also know as Tatanka in Lakota, Iinniiwa in Blackfoot, Kuts in Paiute and Vanbito in Navajo. Scientific name Bison Bison, referred to originally as Buffalo because their hides created a coat referred too as a BUFF. Although the name was already taken by the water buffalo and cape buffalo in Africa. Thanks for watching!
