The most undervalued, ignored (nominated for Oscer 22 times) and only honored after he died. He left behind the most beautiful movie music ever written.
@David...Yes, but you should've heard a recitation of the poem from which the title is excerpted by movie star Turhan Bey with the soundtrack in the background done on a television program. I fell in love with "No man is an island..." by 15th century metaphysical poet John Donne from that moment on which was in the early 50s.
A restored version of original soundtrack album to FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS composed and conducted by Victor Young is available as download and stream on most internet music platforms like iTunes and Spotify. This digital album also includes the soundtracks GOLDEN EARRINGS and OMAR KHAYYAM by Young.
I associate this excerpt with a poem recited long ago on television by movie star Turhan Bey and written by 15th century metaphysical poet John Donne, "No man is an island..."
You haven't been listening enough! -There's tons of good stuff out there. You just gotta weed through all the temp music. There's a lot of amazing scores now days in game soundtracks too. Austin Wintory and Jeremey Soule are a couple good examples that come to mind. Even this score's flow is staggerd a little bit at points by being written for specific cinematic moments, but like classic opera, you're always going to have specific music written to enhance other performances. Arvo Pärt is a great example of a "modern" composer you might really dig; has a lot of that turn of the 20th century post romantic feel you might dig that a lot of early-ish film scores have. -which in turn was affected by a resurgence of traditional folk songs in Europe due to the resurgence of Nationalism at the time. (think Jean Sibelius, Ralph Vaughn Williams, and Edvard Grieg) Happy listening! ^_^

How very sad! Victor Young was definitely one of several fine film composers. He really should have been awarded while he was living.
This was the first ever movie soundtrack to be issued as an LP/record - amazing. Victor Young, died too early
Best part starts at 6:00 just takes me to another world. Still one of my favorite books and movies
This is beautiful because it was composed by Victor Young! Everything he composed is absolutely wonderful!
Beautiful Soundtrack

For whom the bell tolls? It tolls for THEE. "ROBERTO", "ROBERTO", "ROBERTO".
「誰がために鐘がなる」を高校生の時に映画館で見て、とても感動しました。第2次世界対戦中に製作されたのですね。こんな映画を作れる米国に勝てるはずがないですね‼️
