I almost bought a similar one but black on black from NC a year or so ago. HPP package with a 3.55 rear end, dual exhaust, sway bars, all the goodies including those fantastic alloy rims. Fun fact - the HPP rear sway bar is a beefy 21mm, the largest rear sway bar offered on a Panther and only shared with the Marauder! These are a highly underrated and very little-known secret among Panther cars - anyone reading this who is a fan of this platform, find one of these and snag it while you still can! And you're right Anthony, this car DESERVES an enthusiast owner. The best part is, most people who own HPP's have no idea what they have and you can often score a great deal on a superior automobile.
The Handling and Performance Package (HPP) for the Mercury Grand Marquis enhances the vehicle’s performance and handling. Here are some key features of the HPP12: Suspension Upgrades: Includes a beefier sway bar and air suspension in the rear, which helps prevent the rear from sagging. Dual Exhaust: Standard on HPP models, improving both performance and sound. Rear Axle Ratio: Typically comes with a 3.27 or 3.55 rear axle ratio, providing better acceleration compared to the standard 2.73 ratio. Torque Converter: Equipped with an 11.25" torque converter for improved power delivery. Tires and Wheels: Often features 225/60R16 tires and unique rims. These enhancements make the Grand Marquis HPP a more performance-oriented version of the standard model, offering a balance between comfort and improved handling.
Had a 1995 version with the handling package, red metallic with light gray leather. Had gray pinstripe. Wonderful car, thought it was a good comparison to police car package. Traded it for 1997 Town Car with handling package too
Sounds like virtually the same spec as the 1998-2002 Lincoln Town Car Signature Touring Sedan package, save for 235/60/16 tire fitment. Good to have in whatever Panther platform car one chooses!
My 95 Grand Marquis hit 334,300 miles, same wheels and color as this. Ran smooth as silk but all the lights and electrical system were going out. Never missed an oil change and waxed yearly. Minimum $500 just to tear out the dash and most-likely thousands more to fix if a used digital speedometer could be found. No warranty on any repair either since new parts were not available IF it could be fixed. Kept blowing fuses too. Lasted a long time nonetheless, puts today's junk "cars" to shame. Definitely got my money's worth, no doubt! Wonderful cars, safe, practical. Ford's best.
I really would like to get a hold of a Crown victoria Touring sedan which was the pioneer of the HPP. it was only made 1 year in 1992 with the redesign, and was basically a cop car (Performance/ suspension wise ) with all the bells and whistles
My first car. 2001 Mercury grand Marquis. My grandfather gave it to me when I graduated highschool I'm 2006. That car got me through college , and half of my 20s. So many memories. That Trunk can fit three kegs.....oh how time flies.
Out of all the GM models the 1998 to 2002 is my favorite body style. That grille exudes Mercury Marquis nostalgia from the 1975 to 1979 era....from when i was a kid. These cars are bulletproof and worth the time and effort to keep on the road. I respect the family for showing so much love and care for this machine. Although i abhor that particular color, I think the car is beautiful. I had a 1998 GS 'spruce green' that everyone swore was gray. It wasn't....it was indeed green.
Didn’t know what HPP package was when I found a metallic red HPP Marquis for sale: with black leather- digital dash, lace alloys, dual exhaust. Immaculate. Test drove it but since it was the first car I looked at I said “I’ll get back to you” Several days later I figured out what HPP was and fell over myself reaching for the phone. Called the guy and he’d sold it only hours before… Bottom line: just buy the damn thing!
Thank you Anthony. I think this is " Grand" This car carried Mercury all the way to end( 2011) and this car withstood the test of time for many generations. I know someone who had the 1996 version. I got to drive it. It hadf the same wheels and suspension and options and features. This car is indeed loaded. I was not a fan of the headlight design because I felt that this car should have had dual or quad headlight design. That was the only distraction. That interior is in good shape. That design ran from 1992-2011 with updates over the years. The funny thing it was a redesign of the 1979-1991 model. You can see it in the styling. I like the digital gauges. Thank you Anthony.
I’d recommend Silicone spray. Regular penetrating oil can “possibly” cause rubber to swell. The Last can I bought I had to go in the back corner of Wal-Mart in the RV section labeled for slide outs and weather stripping, etc. Also spray in the window edges and roll them up a few times and re-spray, repeat annually.
Nice car. I see those wheels around from time to time. I want to say there’s a light blue metallic version of that car right here in town. I’ll have to ask about it.
Pretty popular on the Panther Ford’s & Merc’s up until the ‘03 suspension update that added Rack & pinion steering and Watts linkage for the rear suspension. After that update I don’t believe they offered to suspension package but dual exhaust was available as a stand alone option.
Mom bought a GM in 1997. I tried to talk her into getting one with the HPP. No go. That extra 15 horsepower would've been nice to have. She still has hers. I don't know the last time it moved. Has the manifold intake issue been resolved?
In 2000, the FBI had mainly gray Grand Marquis, and I wonder if the FBI got this package? They could change or add a chip to increase performance. I think??
My 98 GS had duals, air suspension, and the same wheels when I bought it. It looks just like this car except mine is white and doesn't have the key pad. I'm thinking it has the handling package but I would love to know for sure.
my grandmother's last car was this same color and same type of car. the car was deeded to me in the will, but I had to give it to my brother because he wrecked his car. He didn't like the Grand marquis and tore it up abusing the car.
As much as I like the digital dash I wouldn’t want one in my daily driver cause I would worried about it not working one day I have a 06 MGM and I would prefer the analogue gauges just I trust them more than the digital dash but unfortunately there is still a little screen that I am worried about
I think the same, I was never a fan of the late 80’s mid 90’s LTC digital dash. My ‘11 Crown Vic has analog and ironically the digital odometer rarely works due to a know issue within the LCM. Otherwise, no complaints
215HP on these to be precise, and the main difference between this and your LeSabre is torque. 230 ft-lb on your LeSabre, and 285 ft-lb on the Marquis. This enables the Grand Marquis to run a 0-60 time a full second faster, despite also weighing 350 pounds more than a 2003 LeSabre. The V8 in the panthers also just feels a lot peppier around town in particular than the 3800 V6, and I can say that as somebody who owns a 3800 Series II equipped Park Avenue, and a 4.6L V8 equipped Grand Marquis. Consider the Buick 3800 V6 also got a full redesign in '95, whereas the 4.6L 2v V8 was released in '91 with only minor changes until its discontinuation.
Nice car but price for this year is not the best Anthony. That's steep😮 isee then cars with options that are better for half the price. If it was mint different story. God luck with that one.
👋 bye, but not sorry because this community doesn’t want rude people like you in it. The price is Literally In the description… $14k, second sentence in… I always check that first just for reference when I scroll through the comments and watch the video.

You guys should be careful with the 1992-2002 Mercury Grand Marquis. They aren't safe. I had a 98 Grand Marquis for 4 months, the frame control arm rusted out, I can't afford to fix it.
No car is immune to rust. These vehicles are prone to it no moreso than any other vehicle of its time. I would actually say these are some of the better ones of the era. You are fully capable of looking underneath a vehicle before purchasing it to inspect for rust holes. The '98 Grand Marquis you bought likely had that rust already when you purchased it. I've owned a few of these and I live in the salt belt (Michigan), I've also seen hundreds go through the local U-Pulls, and I've seen maybe one or two with rotted control arms. Its not a particularly common failure, and its an easy one to fix too if it becomes a problem, new control arms can be had for $77 off of RockAuto. They can be swapped out in a few hours. Or if you're a welder, you could just patch the old ones. Or you could grab some from a local U-Pull for $15. Up to you.
Gotcha. Thanks for the information. The thing is, I got rid of mine, cause I don't wanna fix that frame control arm. I drove that car in the winter time, got stuck, that's why the frame control arm rusted out in the winter. That car was rear wheel drive.

super nice car, clean lines still looks good today
i just call it the performance package, I love the color too
I'd be happy to have this as a beater to/from work in the city. It would save miles on our Atlas.
Lol, sure, a $14k, one off, survivor, beater car, that gets 20 mpg… yes, definitely don’t buy a circa 2009 Honda Civic for $3500 ….
@RustyZipper I'm used to 20 MPG, so... And I wouldn't pay $14K for this scarred-up car that, in the end, is just another Panther. 🤷♂️
very nice car. usually police don't care about back windows they more worried the front 2 doors & windshield😊.

Correct. The frame, steering and front suspension upgrades came in 2003. Thx!
