This video brings me back to 2018 when I was working nights first getting into pipe smoking. On the nights I was off and couldn’t sleep I would watch these videos and they provided me with some comfort (I did not like my job at the time for various reasons). Watching these now in a completely different line of work that I love makes me feel nostalgic.
@@aaronnelsonmusic5971 I've been stalling on that. My old phone had a video editor built in with all those wonderful filters and other features I regularly used. My new Samsung no longer provides or supports that feature and I can't find any free editor that does nearly the same stuff. Ironic, got the s9+ for its great camera... and I can't properly edit the videos any more! 😅 Eventually I'll find something that works!
I'm glad to see some of your videos back on UA-cam. Yours is one of my favorite channels and I would love it if you could upload more of your past videos. I too find myself up and about at all hours of the night and it is always relaxing and enjoyable to sit back with a favorite pipe and blend and watch your videos. All the best.
Just found your channel and I am enjoying your videos and the nostalgic feel of them. Just wonderful. What got me into pipe smoking was the fond memories of my grandfathers enjoying their pipes back in the good ole days when people took time to smell the roses and the pipe tobacco smoke! I always loved the smell of my Pap's pipe.
Here it is, Sunday night on the ridge. We've been given a break from the smothering heat and the crickets are enjoying it also. And this pops up in my feed. Boy, am I glad. There's nothing like a time in Codgerville for winding down, and settling in with pipe dreams.
Well at roughly around 2:30 a.m. I had the rubber gloves on with a bowl of water and some brown stems that needed some care. I just got a tun of Carter Hall that was passed on to me from 2012 unopened. I started watching Matches on that blend, then it went to his review of Velvet, I figured I would have to take off my wet gloves and switch to your channel, but lo and behold after his Velvet video I ended up on your channel. it is now 4:30 and I have yet to go to bed for those precious few hours of sleep curled up with my own dog. I have seen most of these before, but still enjoyed them as they helped me pass the time sanding. I enjoyed them like I enjoyed stories from my grandfather when he was alive that I have heard repeated several times in the same words, but never got sick of. His nickname was Big Al. As a kid I admired him, and he introduced me to old things I love today. He had a wood shop in the garage where he smoked El Producto cigars and Dutch Masters, listened to old music, wore a beat up pair of wing tips, and had old woodshop saws that were a beautiful army green, you know, stuff that was built better than the neon plastic junk you get in Home Depot today that costs a paycheck and you'll be lucky if it lasts a year. Big Al and I watched old films together, and anytime Clark Gable would lay a forceful kiss on a woman the old Italian would say, "He's got my style." I always think fondly of visiting him in northern Michigan during Thanksgiving when that first snowfall would come in, and I would bundle up and hang out in that shop with the smell of cheap cigars, among the old tools, gumball machines, Norman Rockwell, you know, good things, memories that come to you in a hazy sort of way like that snow globe in Citizen Kane. I have to say your videos capture that warm feeling for a guy who only watches old films and loves old Americana. You also nailed it on some other things pipe related in other videos that I will leave comments on another day, but until then thanks.
I don't know what to say in return... thank you VERY much. I feel very honored to bring back such wonderful memories. I guess I'm doing something right after all!

Less that $10 shipped! That lovely pipe? Wonderful! You deserve it Lt., all those bad guys you put behind bars😉Did you ever arrest a pipe smoker? Anyway, if C&D ever make a Codgerville blend, I will get me some o that!
Hey there Mr. Codger! I have a humidor on my desk as well with a random mix. Every time I get to the end of whatever tobacco I have I dump it in there. Haven't tried it yet but it will be interesting.
The Artful Codger I live in Sault Ste Marie Ontario Canada they don't sell Velvet here Corncob piper sent me some velvet and lane limited ready rubbed and Sir Walter Raleigh and Prince Albert. I love the Velvet and actually the rest of the blends too. I'm going to be sending Corn cob piper something soon just need to get some cash behind me first lol.
Whether it be a comment, video or someone who meets you in person, you are right. This community is something special. Funny how a piece of wood or a piece of corn cob can bring people together. Perhaps this should be brought up to the powers that be. Then the world could start being a better place. The blend you made sounds pretty good; definitely codger worthy. Enjoy you puff, but don't keep Lady Velvet waiting all night for your return. Though I do admit, I have been curious to see her included in one of you visits. Not likely, I know. Be well brother..
Good to hear from you Ben. Never had much luck with mixing blends, usually attempted with blends I'm not crazy about but often end up even worse! One notable exception was the Clark's Mix Muttnchop had mentioned a long time ago, a house blend that Smokingpipes does not offer anymore due to the FDA regulations. It's done with equal parts of Lane 1Q, Lane BCA and McClelland Just Plain Nut, which I happened to not appreciate on their own. The result was smokable.
Bonapiper Thanks for stopping by! I usually much prefer blends just as they come. This one though... turned out to be a little more than the sum of its parts. I guess we all get lucky once in a while!
Another great video. Wondering if you at some point you could provide a detailed listing of some of the awesome albums that feature so perfectly in your videos. Fellow throwbacks like me would be forever grateful. Hope you are well.
You’ve got that magic touch AC. Always enjoy your videos. I appreciate your encouragement with blending, never really put in an honest effort toward finding my own blend. Take care.
That mix sounds de-licious. I throw a little latikia in everything. It's like butter makes everything taste better. Been praying for Ethan. God's got him right where He wants him. Imagine the good work that He's got him doing in the hospital. Take care my brother.
You've inspired me to give Velvet another try. I remember seeing it at the commissary, when I was a child. I never caught that aroma. There was an over flooding of Brut and Hai Karate. I didn't understand at the time. But odors of wounds were trying to be masked. I tried Velvet, Years later. It was the either like it or not period. I wanted something to wow people. Then, Years passed, it was taken over by Lane. It was way too syrupy . Now, after watching your videos, I feel it's time to give it another try. I've been mixing PA and CH. I really like those two. They are something special, after almost 18 years of Kentucky's Best. They are smooth. Have you gotten over the aroma, that first burst of, well, you know. We used to gather around each time a new can of coffee was opened. It was like something magical was about to happen.
Lol When you described your 'House' blend I'd already dubbed it Codger Velvet - great minds. Thanks for the shout out to Ethan. The support from the community had been astonishing but not unexpected. There are a lot of big hearts in the YTPC. Be well - peace
I very much enjoy the music you play in the background of your videos, the vintage organ stuff especially. Would you mind sharing the artists you have playing? I would love to collect some of it. Thank you, sir, in advance. I love your videos.
Scott Jones Hey, thanks Scott! I sure appreciate that! In this one it's some Jackie Gleason album or another... the vintage organ stuff is one of several I have. I get them at resale shops. Maybe Lee Erwin at the Wurlitzer "Oldies for Pipe Organ" Hope that helps!
Nice seein ya brother. Prayers for Ethan. Sounds like a great blend. Just did that with some prince Albert soft vanilla, carter hall, regular pa. Then added some arogosey black. Really good!
My only blend experiment has been Elizabethan Mixture and Bayou Morning which I call Cajun Queen. Ethan is a great guy. This is a great community. Great video as always.
That is an interesting pipe loading technique at the beginning. I do a little blending. The blend I call ol codger is Carter hall mixed with half & half and left in a tightly packed jar for a few months. I've got one going right now that could be good it's sir Walt, lane black cherry and apple from Middleton. I've been carrying it tightly rolled in a Ziploc in my back pocket for the last week to accelerate the melding process. It's getting there. might need a touch more sir Walt. Take care
Another fine Codger production. Man, you make great videos. That blend sounds interesting, kinda like my bits and pieces jar ;) Sounds like Ethan is taking some steps in the right direction, with a long road to go. He is a helluva sweet guy. Take good care my friend, goodnight! Stephen
imawrench Thank you Stephen! I think Ethan is finally in some really capable hands medically, and I wish him and his families the very best. And you too my brother! All the best to you and your lady love!

The Artful Codger thanks for the tip! You have to do more videos! We need more videos like these! I cannot wait for your next codger blend documentary!
Ciao! 👋🏻👋🏻 Have to say we are very impressed with the leg lamp...Martin saw a Christmas Story for the very first time this last Christmas. 😬 Martin is great at making his own blends, it’s like having an on site master blender. Haha! Lots of well wishes to you for a wonderful week ahead! 🔥A&M
Don’t look now, old boy, but you may have lost a cut or two of baccy upon loading. Yessir, we have a fine community here. I’m proud to say I belong. The only blend I’ve even come close to enjoying was a suggestion from stay at home piper, a mix of anything heavy in the Latakia (Pirate Kake in my case) and Captain Black Cherry. Pretty good stuff. I’d like to try a crumble cake style some day, that might be fun. Sweet LHS, by the way. I know that you know I’m a big fan. Scored another really nice bulldog a while back, very slender and slight bend. It’s a blend between a greyhound and a bull dog, a bullhound 😂
Nom De Tube I like that... a bullhound! Lol. I actually mentioned you to Simon during his livestream the other day. He had a gorgeous LHS Sterncrest he was considering selling. I told him that nice ones sell online for 30 or 40 bucks... he decided to keep it!
The Artful Codger His Sterncrest is a really nice one. Way above my usual bracket. Plus I feel like I’ve been ripped off if I don’t have to dig decades of cake out and, at minimum, apply a fresh coat of wax 😜
Not unusual, but I did mix some 1Q and BCA,which is my only aero that I'll smoke on some rare occasions . Mostly Velvet,Lane Ready Rub,Golden Extra,ODF, Dark Strong Kentucky,Half n Half, Elizabethan Mixture, Orlik Golden Slice, Dunhill Night Cap, HGL,and Star of the East. Wow, I do smoke a lot 🤐😆
Awesome vid. Looks like similar rustication/carve to mine. Clearly I know nothing about this brand. Thanks for sharing and thanks for mentioning the raffles.
Codge, I missed you man thanks for saying hello. You know something if you clench your pipe the way you do and you spoke in a little deeper voice you would sound exactly like Humphrey Bogart. Watch one of his movies and listen to him talk. Without knowing it you have his voice nailed. Going to make the big step and do a video just got to find out what you guys are recording with, how you transfer the footage and what's the best editing program to use. I'm actually pretty excited about the prospect. Peace God bless you bro
That sounds awesome Jimmy, and thanks for the Bogie compliment! I just film with my Samsung Galaxy phone, a great free video app is Filmora Go. Good luck!
G’day ole Codger... mate it’s been awhile. I’m glad I caught this video. Gave me a chance to sit and unwind a bit. We are moving house right now and just needed a break. Hope all is well with you. I’m outta the loop a fair bit so I’ll have to catch up with you on Voxer if you still use it. Take care, Glen.
Dropbear Woodworks Glen my friend! I'm glad you stopped by! Almost 2am here now, so I gotta conk out for the evening... but we should definitely catch up! Congrats on the new place and enjoy your break!

The Smoove Piper Thank you Peter! It's an interesting and codger-friendly thing for sure! Thank you for your love and prayers. I'm sure they're making all the difference to him and his family!
I blend all kinds of stuff all the time. I have jar upon jar of stuff I blindly mixed together just to get rid of it..always am working my way through one of my hybrids..Its all mixed from good tobacco, so theyre always okay..Right now it's a Davidoff Argentina Cavendish (honey), a Davidoff Brazil Cavendish (Vanilla), a St Bruno Ready rubbed (the good version from Spain, not the lesser German version) and half a tin or so of Gawith Black Cherry..had about half a year to settle..its alright.
Good one, I have a jar of this and that and it is pretty good as well. I call it 57 because it is like a mutt ya do not know what is in it but you still like it.
Catastrophic 1975 It was! But I re-discovered Velvet around 2 years ago! I hadn't had the STG version until then (only the Pinkerton, which I loved...but it bit me something awful). The newer STG Velvet is everything I want in a tobacco and the aroma is to die for. I still smoke an awful lot of 79 though, probably 10 or 12 bowls a week! I generally love OTC burleys of all types... but Velvet takes the cake for this ol' Codger!
Sheldon Richman Depending on the type of leather it is, it may be a natural spot. A lot of them are made with Kudu leather, and apparently it can have dark spota. I have a kiko lovat that is a little speckled that way.
I just won an auction for a Kiko leather wrapped meerschaum lined pipe that's used. $10.00 is what I payed for it. My question is do I disinfect it (clean it) like I do my other estate pipes that I've purchased (salt, golden grain etc )? Or is there another way? I've never owned a meerschaum or a meerschaum lined, leather wrapped pipe. I know you have many and you love them. Any guidance would be appreciated. My email is ibjamn2dabeat@gmail.com. Thanks.
backporch puffer Congratulations! It may need a gentle reaming, but do not use alcohol in the bowl. I use an undersized reamer wrapped a few times in a tightly woven cloth (like a kitchen rag) to clean out the bowls. The stem and shank you can do as you normally would. Let me know how it looks when you get it in!
The Artful Codger greatly appreciated! I'll shoot a video on it. Should bee in later this week or first of next. Thanks again for suggesting that everyone needs at least one in their collection. From the picture mine has an elephant on the stem so could be my Saturday pipe during college football season! Roll Tide!
backporch puffer Btw, I hope you got a good look on the inside of the bowl, some of them have broken liners because of careless owners (over-zealous cleaning, reaming, or dropping).
The Artful Codger Crap! I don't think I did. Crap! Well, I guess nothing ventured nothing gained. Next week I might be asking you how to remove the meerschaum lining and if it's OK to smoke it without. If all else fails I'll take off the leather and make a key ring strap. I hate learning lessons the hard way but such is my life.

I have never tried blending my own. The way things seem to be going, I may need to grow and blend my own. Take care. All the best... ✌️
Pipes, etc. It isn't all that bad. We still have plenty of great options!
Loved the video, souinds like a nice blend you cooked up. Keep the fires burning my friend :)
WharfeValleyBoy Thank you very much! I know you will too!
Man always love seeing your vids pop up. You got class buddy. Class. Sharing how to find a good pipe on eBay would be sweet!
The Magician Piper Thank you so much Jack! I would be very happy to share a few tips and tricks!
Prayers for Ethan and his family & friends.
Gabe Pettinicchio Yes sir. Thanks Gabe!
I know exactly what you mean, about to talk a nap with my german shorthair pointer right after this videos over, the guys just staring at me like what are you doing hop in bed already lol.
Welcome back, Ben!! Missed you buddy! Haven't had a chance to do one of our all-nite chats lately. I'm glad to see you are well. I've said it before and I'll say it again, we have some of the finest souls in the YTPC...Bar none!! Good thoughts to Ethan for a speedy recovery!! All the best!!
Sgt. Savinelli I hear ya buddy! We sure do! All the best my friend!
Hands down, you make the best videos!!! I’ve been trying to find velvet but I can’t find it anywhere. I’ll have to order some online.
Eric Bluecollarpipesmoker Thanks Eric! Ordering online is what I do! P&C has tubs for $27, and right now you'll get $5 p&c cash for every tub you buy!
The Artful Codger thanks for the tip! You have to do more videos! We need more videos like these! I cannot wait for your next codger blend documentary!
Continued prayers for Ethan! Would love to see you create an eBay tutorial video. Blessings, brother!
Padre Piper Count on it Padre! We're missing you man, when you gonna hit up the "virtual airwaves" for us again?
The Peacheys13 Thank you guys! And you too! It's funny how much that lamp gets noticed and mentioned... glad you like it! Did he enjoy the movie?
The Artful Codger ...he loves it! I have a feeling I may just be sick of hearing ‘you’ll shoot your eye out’ by the end of the year! 😉
I love the beginning! Been a while, starting to wonder about you until today!
Nicholas Cox Thank you very much! Not to worry! I'm still skulking around!
Steven Emas Bah! Not a lot! All great stuff!
Good one Codger. Have a lovely day! Peace
Joshua In The Woods You too Joshua! Peace brother!
I usually smoke Burley and Vapers. When I have small amounts left.ill mix the two. Not bad. I've also mixed Velvet with Half n Hslf. Pretty good 😋🤐👍
I can't argue with your choices! 🤩
Awesome vid. Looks like similar rustication/carve to mine. Clearly I know nothing about this brand. Thanks for sharing and thanks for mentioning the raffles.
bpruk Oh, my pleasure! -
The Codger king! Good to “see” you.
Derek Tant Always good to see you too Mr. Mayor!
Good luck!
always good to have you My friend keep on choochin
Ole Berg Thanks Berg. I wish I could be here more than this, but it's always great to get a chance to pop on!
The Artful Codger do you still use Voxer?
Dropbear Woodworks I still have it, sure! I don't find myself using it all too often anymore, but I'm still there!
The Artful Codger do me a favour and send me a message because I can't seem to find you on there.
Heyyy Ben my friend that sounds like an interesting blend you made it sounds delightful enjoy buddy ive been doing a Novena prayer for Ethan every day at noon wishing him all the best wonderful guy in the ytpc take care and happy smokes😄😃😃😃😃👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 best regards peter.
The Smoove Piper Thank you Peter! It's an interesting and codger-friendly thing for sure!
Thank you for your love and prayers. I'm sure they're making all the difference to him and his family!
I enjoyed the video, you have a very easy style to watch. May your pipe be full and your matches dry.
COBBIT of the SHIRE Thank you! Kind of like your style!
All the time
I blend all kinds of stuff all the time.
LackadaisicalE Wow, does that ever sound like quite a mixture!
hello Ben, good to see ya, bud
bamagtrdude Always good to see you too Mark!
Great video. What brand is velvet, would be interested in trying to get hold of it over here in the UK.
Good one, I have a jar of this and that and it is pretty good as well. I call it 57 because it is like a mutt ya do not know what is in it but you still like it.
Backwoods Piper 1 Haha, no kidding! Like Ketchup!
By the way I just picked up my first pouch of Velvet.HaHaHa going to give it a try. I should fit in with it since I'm an old fart.
Backwoods Piper 1 Lol. Velvet always fits. It's the definition of agreeable!
I wonder if the artful codger the man behind pipe appeal??
Afraid not! He is a friend actually, and his name is Parker. If you enjoy his content, be sure to let him know!
nice vid
NYC drums Thanks buddy!
Velvet?? i thought Mixture 79 was your main smoke
A Kiko question: how can I remove a dark splotch from the pigskin? It won't rub off. Thanks!
Sheldon Richman Try some Saddle Soap... works for me! It's not a burn mark is it?
I don't see how it could be a burn. I smoke cool, and no heat had contact with the exterior.
Sheldon Richman Depending on the type of leather it is, it may be a natural spot. A lot of them are made with Kudu leather, and apparently it can have dark spota. I have a kiko lovat that is a little speckled that way.
The Artful Codger My research suggests pigskin. I ordered saddle soap.
Sheldon Richman Let me know if it works for ya!
I hate learning lessons the hard way but such is my life.
backporch puffer It may be just fine! If you want, shoot me a link to the old ebay page.
