Japan in the early 2000s definitely seemed very energetic in terms of street fashion, nightlife, pop culture, and it was still one of the world's great technological & economic centers
@@bricky10101 At that time, China's economy was still about one-third that of Japan. In 2002, Japan's GDP per capita was the third highest in the world.
@bricky10101 a time when the Nintendo was the best console in the world, Japan developed the best games, studio ghibli was a massive thing for movies back then, Japan had it all in the early 2000s
I was born in march 6 of 2002. And videos like this, just make me realize that even before my birth, there was already people living his lifes, and definitely, I will die and all of this will be there. Amazing video, thanks!
It’s insane how 20 years have gone by, and apart from the cars, rolling stock of the metro and lack of smartphones, you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference between 2002 and 2023 in some places! Love this kind of modern history
the video is in ideal quality, old but visible, noise, city, vegetation, really something special, I came back here more than once to recap, Has the world transcended virtually? Do these things still exist today? How can I say that all of these are still alive? I will keep them as a souvenir.
I think it's funny how nowadays they always say that the Japanese are shy, but when I watch old videos I don't have that feeling, it seems to me something that was imposed on the culture, from the 2000s onwards
I actually agree, there is a noticeable change in Japanese young people compared to 20 years ago. To me at least it seems like Japanese were a lot more energetic ("genki") back then compared to now, and if I were to put a particular line after which I noticed, it would be after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. But then again, I would say American young people are also a lot less energetic than 20 years ago, from my daily life in NYC. I don't think this is unique to Japanese

I miss early 2000 Japan. more vibe, better fashion, less tourists. Shinjuku and Shibuya are becoming soulless and woke epicenters full of jeets everywhere. sad.
I am from Thailand I'll explain it to you. Because you're too stupid. You may have misunderstood the mechanism of development! Japan has progressed to the utmost. There is nothing that needs to be developed in terms of buildings and the community. But the only thing that Japan continues to develop That is innovation. Japan has an automobile industry. There is the electronics industry and AI technology, so you can't be too stupid. 🇹🇭❤️🇯🇵

There's something so surreal watching normal footage like this knowing you were just not alive for it
I stayed in Ueno-Tokyo and even got a tokyo zoo hat from there. It was super nice and still is the same as in the video.
I was living Harajuku back then

My dad was in the club on that Wednesday night I think
