      Well for people who don’t have one yet or don’t want a ford, I would love to have one. With this I could go down all trails and go camping and hunting with it among so many more things. I could use this around the house as well. If I get a Jeep it will never be a 2 door.

    I’m struggling to get it? It’s the price of a jeep, has the storage capacity of a jeep, it’s louder than a jeep, the rear passengers get hot because they are sitting on the engine, has the off road performance of a jeep but it’s not street legal like a jeep so that means we have to buy an expensive car trailer to get to those overland locations.
    How do I justify the $50k price tag???

    • @UTVDriver

      It's a fair question, and one Aaron answers in his review. You can check it out on the site:
      www.utvdriver.com/reviews/polaris-xpedition-overlanding-side-by-side-review-2024/
      Essentially, there is no production vehicle that can cover the same ground in the same amount of time in the same comfort.

      @@UTVDriver Dont get me wrong I love my Polaris Rzr but out here in the Tahoe area I see Jeep Rubicons and SXSs in the exact same places. The difference is the Jeepers dont have to buy trailers and the Jeepers can drive further than 100 miles on a tank of gas.
      I love Polaris and I might be buying a 4 seater here real soon. I just need time to figure out why the new xpedition model deserves my $50k.

    • @leoclement3801
      @leoclement3801 Рік тому +6

      @@UTVDriver I read your article (in full) and honestly, at one point I chuckled a bit. In part, your article state that it doesn't compare to any Jeep, Bronco or any other modern-day street legal vehicle because .... *" you can easily replace plastic body panels, you don't need to worry about bashing in an expensive fender"* .... You have GOT to be kidding right? Who in their right mind would not worry about bashing in fenders on their 50k purchase, regardless of what they drive?
      As I stated above, .... Yeah yeah I know, the comparison has been done a gazillion times but come on guys, let's get real for half a minute! Yes, I will agree in that they have "some" limitations but the Jeep/Bronco/etc...will easily get you to 95% of real-life destinations and you'll be way, way, WAY more comfortable while getting there, not to mention the incomparable features onboard. Look, I've owned several quads and SxS's in the past 35 years, belonged to a bunch of riding clubs, and so I'm certainly not a newbie by any means. I know dam-well what a real-life destination is for almost 100% of real-life riders .
      In keeping it real, everyone knows that most street legal off-road vehicles simply do not measure up to a UTV in many regards but ... we are talking about spending $50,000! That's a helluva lot of money for most people. Unless you have a ton of cash to burn, you really should think twice about where "YOUR" real-life destinations are. I mean if even if 5% of them cannot be reached by a Jeep/Bronco/etc..., isn't it worth dropping them so that you can truly enjoy the other 95% in comfort and incomparable features?
      In reality, being able to "legally drive" your 50k investment on extremely challenging trails PLUS everywhere else makes it a no brainer, hands down! (imho).
      Look, I bought a new Yamaha Wolverine. My wife and I love it because it suits "our" needs but with that said, if I were to double the amount of our purchase, I wouldn't even consider spending it on this Polaris Xpedition. I would definitely shop for a used 50k street-legal off road vehicle instead, and get to 95% of most real-life destinations in comfort, rather than bragging rights. I'm pretty sure that the vast majority would agree that for 50 grand, you should be able to drive your purchase anywhere, not only on rough trails.
      Again, I suppose it all depends on your own personal financial situation.
      My 2 cents.
      .

    And the sixth thing we all hate is, the price. Which I’m sure the shock of hearing it would deter a lot of people from wasting their time and money from even bothering to go look at one. Because for the money invested in one of these, one could probably find a very nice used truck that rides better, handles better and is a lot more quieter and stays cleaner on the inside. Not mention you could add a tent that sets up in the pickup bed for a whole lot less money than two grand and you would more than likely have more room inside. Good job on the video through! 👍

    I own a 2021 Polaris Ranger XP1000 Premium. I installed aftermarket doors, windows and heat. It’s been great for overlanding. I might have a little over $20k in it. What is added other than HVAC that makes Polaris think it’s worth $50k? This is either going to be a hugely profitable project for Polaris, or discontinued after a few years. I have disposable income, and have done questionable things in the past, but this price point is obscene. It’s cool, but not $50k cool. Plus the weight? Some states have weight limits for off-road trails. This isn’t better than a basic jeep.

    I don't want to bash this new ride, but I'm on my third Rubicon and now it's the Gladiator edition. When it comes to off road trail riding, I don't like having to rev 4k rpm just to do 10mph plus the loud engine noise. I'll take the Jeep any day for trail riding, and then the Polaris HL Edition RZR for mud riding. The HL Edition sits in the shop as we are tired of mud and cleaning.
    Polaris if you want o make a over nitght trail ride, change the transmission to a wet clutch and gears. You are not trying to race when trail riding. JMHO Cheers

I just started researching these but considering the design intent and functionality, at this price point, and if it was a complete ground up redesigned platform - seems like there are still a lot of basic design oversights. This thing should be very dialed in for a truggy at this price point.
    Edit: I'm also very interested to see how Can-Am responds by trying to provide something similar. I'd expect that they wait a few quarters to see if Polaris can move any of these @ these price points. Don't get me wrong, it's a sick concept and really cool that Polaris is trying this. But for the money, I can't believe it's not street legal. For the amount of money they want, you'd really be better off getting a 4WD and roof top tent. Now this could because I'm not super familiar with the OHV trails here in Colorado, but I just don't think there's enough trails that are long enough or really suitable for a SXS to justify something like this. I love riding my dirt bike out here, but since it's not plated or street legal, I'm severely limited by where I can actually ride it. If I could just go on that one road, for just a little bit *legally* I'd be able to do so much more.

The ride is great but that throttle response when you want it doing aggressive trail riding isn’t the best as let’s say general xp rigs. Or non turbo Rzr . How do you compare if you can , the low end throttle let’s say when going into/out of a turn in the trail hitting the skinny pedal? The ranger just isn’t there. I am thinking about ordering the Xpedition NorthStar crew XP.

    • @UTVDriver
      @UTVDriver  Рік тому

      Hi N Wags, throttle response depends on which mode you select, but in "sport" mode it's very responsive and peppy. Much closer to a RZR XP than a Ranger. In "standard" mode it's more akin to the General, and "comfort" mode is pretty much reserved for creeping through rocks or moving cargo that you don't want bouncing around. There's a definitive difference from one mode to the next, and they all have a distinct purpose.

    Back in 2021 - I put a order for a new General would be great trail and work machine not to sporty that it couldnt work - so I sold my Sportsman 850(i loved the machine but it kept eating prop shafts and differentials) and then I waited the 2 weeks for it to arrive. After numerous calls and emails the dealer got back to me and said its going to be another 4 weeks but I would have it soon - so I waited again. Well 4 weeks comes and goes then I was told in the spring - I am at the top of the list! Great - cant wait for the spring 2022! Spring came and no machine! Dealer got back to me a month later and said ok we have a new date - its coming November 2022 and its $3000 more for the same machine........ I asked why was there a price hike since I was already locked in and never really got a answer. LOL so I took 2022 and 2023 off from ATV/SXS to work on some home reno's and I plan to have a look again in spring 2024 but now I am considering a X3 - I wont ever buy a Polaris again - they tried to take advantage with prices during covid and try to continue to take advantage of people and to make it worst the dealer didnt give two shits after having a relationship with them built up over the years and they didnt care they were going to lose a customer, they never tried calling me back never tried to work with me, nothing. It made it very clear where their destination is for Polaris and that customer service isn't part of it. Kudos Polaris - can't wait to see your next flop!
