I have a sign off and news headline from August 31, 1985 with Tom. It’s a little chopped up cause I kept hitting the pause button when I was taping it. I don’t know how to put it on you tube from VHS cassette. Tim talks about Hurricane Elena, the divorce settlement of Johnny Carson, and the L.A night stalker Richard Ramirez

Does anyone remember when they changed and updated the slides in the fall of 1985? A few months later in 1986 the channel did away with the late news headlines and then shortly after the channel became Fox 5 : (

I guess the one thing we're looking for now, is a sign-off newscast on WNEW read by Peter Lucas . . .

Here's what I want to know...on another vid here, the signoff ends with color bars. However, someone remembered WNEW using the same round test pattern WNYW would later on. Only the top read "WNEW-TV" and bottom "MMI 5 NYC."

The Philips PM5544 pattern. First put into use in the "WNEW-TV" / "MMI 5 NYC" era. I saw it too, from other sources.

Nice!! Glad to see more of these. There is always a cool surprise. I never heard of this announcer

Surely you've heard his voice . . . certain 1970's and '80's WNEW clips have him V/O'ing promos. He was, from what I've read, a part-time/sub-announcer (regularly based out of Connecticut), though he would end up outlasting the "regulars" (Tom Gregory, Ed Ladd and Lou Steele) after it became Fox-owned WNYW, lasting to about 1988.

I.I.N.M., on the Sermonette was the same recording of "Forgotten Dreams" by Leroy Anderson that, up to 1977, was used the end credits of Friday evening editions of "Eyewitness News" on WABC-TV.

I remember this, this was one of the last headlines from the pre -Fox era.

I remember the fall of 85, months before they became Fox, they had new slides for a while with a new V/O on Sunday mornings. Also before they became Fox they did away with the news headlines, around that Christmas and the sign offs started with the station going right into the milk mans matinee adverstisement

I remember Chuck Caron from this 1977 WNEW video - ua-cam.com/video/WS21dD9vgYA/v-deo.html
As it was already mentioned, the news headlines would be a thing of the past by the time the FOX network took over in 1986. It's still really cool to see all these news videos that Hugo has posted.
