yes! please do a whole series for us sub37/seq owners. the more detailed the better. had a bit of a time figuring out how you setup vibrato (lfo2) on just those last 4 steps, then realized you must have first (before the video started) gone into the mod2 ctrl and turned on MODWHEEL. so many steps! but we love you guys for your depth ;) if you could do a whole video just on the mod control menus i'd kiss ya
Ive had the Sub37 for over a year now. However with the Subsequent 37 representing the mature and final form of the Sub series, do you think its worth upgrade? How much of a sonic difference and spec difference is there?
Yes please make This a series. I would Like to Know more about the lfos and how to use all there different functions. I loved this. Can’t wait to see more
Haha, a little dyslexia there @ 3:15 , but honestly GREAT content Moog Music Inc. I really appreciate you taking the time to upload these videos for us visual learners. This is exactly what I asked for weeks ago regarding content and you guys are delivering! Keep it coming! Loving this! Content specifically utilizing Subsequent 37 CV gates, cv, arp, lfo's and interfacing/controlling other moog modular gear would be a great direction to go down as I'm sure most of us bought the 37CV to do so! Many many thanks Moog!
This is so incredibly helpful! I've watched it multiple times over the past couple of months but still didn't remember all of these features. I just re-watched it b/c I couldn't remember if it's possible to record a "realtime" pattern (i.e. device automatically applying ties, rests, note div, etc based on how you played the pattern initially, a la Arturia's and Elektron's sequencers). Didn't get any good news on that front, but was reminded about the mod wheel-based parameter locking, ratcheting, and re-defining the start and end steps. Heck, I couldn't even for the life of me remember how to access the sequencer settings page to add swing! Liking and adding to favorites isn't enough, I need to set this video as my browser homepage until all of these features are seared into my memory! Also, if these are the "Sequencer Basics", I'm dying to hear about the advanced sequencing options!
Thanks for producing this. Very well explained and produced. Look forward to seeing more. Again demonstrating your commitment to your customers and fans!
Thank you for this video. I've been using the sequencer but just in the basic way. I wasn't using the menu to get the swing that I wanted or the modulation. That is a game changer for me at least. Please do more tutorials on this channel for the Sub37. Designing your own sounds, using the envelopes, the filters, modulation. I am sure that this will help beginners and experienced alike
+1000x great explaining - i guess there is a lot more of game changing deeper sets that i missed to explore... i wished i could find some good advices on the whole mod sections.... thanx again for a good video
How amazing would it be if we could record modulation (and other params) in real-time, with the sequence running, as one would with automation? (Hint hint...)
Great! thanks for this video, subsequent 37 is a fantastic source of creativity. waiting for more vids ! Also exemples to create a sound with an external device ( connected trought AUDIO IN) thanks.
A diamond in the rough, in a sea of Sub(sequent)37 videos. Would like to see a detailed video on Mod Destinations, including envelope and program destinations, so I can put a cookbook together of great sounds. Many thanks, this is great.
Great tutorial. All this is certainly also in the user's manual but this video is far more efficient to get the "will to try". Thank you. I would suggest a detailed video on MIDI menus and usage. I would be especially interested in the CTRL4 used as a modulation source and how to sync SUB37 with external gears or iOS tools.
moog should incorporate step by step parameter change for all parameters, like Elektron does. This would be amazing, just having mod wheel movement is kind of limited
hey there. around 10 mins, u explain about the modwheel and the sequencer. i can follow, but not clear how to assign the modwheel to for example cutoff. where do i do that? i set the mod bus 1 and 2 to SEQMOD and than? the video doesnt show.
Great tutorial, one remaining question. Can I have different ratchet counts in one sequence for instance in a 8 step sequence a 2 ratchet count on step 2 and a 3 ratchet count on step 6?
Great video thankyou! ( I would like to know if there is a way to more accurately vary the speed of the arpeggiator.... The knob can't be that precise ).. Thank You again
It’s super accurate if u send clock from a drum Maschine/Sampler syncs to whatever Bpm ur drums are at variable parameters from everything quarter notes, 8th notes, 16ths etc etc arp is very responsive and precise
Can you play live when the latch of the sequencer mode on? Like let say I want to play live lead or anything else over the sequencer playing; can I do that?
Saves in the same preset patch or innit patch that was sequenced after you sequence, edit and save. Select patch turn rotary to Seq an itl be recorded and saved there.
Hey I’m not able to modulate every step with my modwheel like explain in the last ast few minutes of this video... I followed every steps (watched it multiple times) but I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong... The Sequenzer is just playing the position of the modwheel (it won’t remember the step I tried to set it to..) What am I doing wrong? :/
I recorded an arp/knob tweak track with my Subsequent and now for post production sake I need to know the exact BPM the subsequent was running at. Is there no way to get the exact BPM value that the Arpeggiator knob is set to? (I still have the knob set in exactly the same place.. playing the same sequence lol).
Any chance that Moog can produce some "Moog for dummies" videos? A good place (for me) to start would be: "Here's the Subsequent 37, and here's how you set it up to sound like the solo in xyz"
when you are in step editing mode after pressing bank + step you want to edit and jump to another step you don't need to keep pressing bank again (at least with the newest update)
Can I record a sequence & play over that sequence using a different preset? Example: Run a baseline sequence then record & play over that recorded sequence while being able to tweak both baseline & additional keys over said sequence.
Yes and no. You can't use 2 presets simultaneously, but you can record a sequence (such as a bassline) and then engage duo mode to play a melody by hand along with the bassline that is coming from the sequencer. Your combined output of bassline and melody will be "Paraphonic", meaning that you can control 2 pitches simultaneously (oscillator 1 running your bass sequence and oscillator 2 producing the melody you play on the keys). Both independently running oscillators will then go through a shared signal path of filter -> envelope/amplifier -> audio out. You can tweak the sounds in real time, but since the filter and amplifier are shared, changes to those parameters will affect both your bassline and melody. Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out to us via email if you need further help getting it set up: techsupport@moogmusic.com
Thank you for breaking this down for me. Was hoping for a 100% yes. Looks like I may need to introduce Mother 32 to my Subsequent 37. I really want to lay sounds (in real time) over these amazing baselines without effecting the baseline and whilst tweaking both baseline and additional sounds simultaneously for live performances. Maybe a future Moog synth shall accommodate :) Cheers!
I'm curious about this as well. I came to the conclusion that it's not possible and just got a Beatstep Pro for sequencing my Minitaur (with the Subsequent & BSP just connected for clock sync), but this video provides ample evidence that I haven't been using my Sub's sequencer to it full potential, so maybe I was wrong about that! Essentially it would mean that we're defining and transmitting a sequence over MIDI (or CV if you have the silver flavor) from the Subsequent, but without it actually entering the Subsequent's synth engine / signal chain. Like it's running its sequence on a MIDI channel that it itself doesn't listen on.
This was a great tutorial, thank you! I was playing with adjusting the start & end points for the sequence, and ended up with a question that maybe you could answer? I had made a 32-step sequence, which was playing back, and while it was on Page 2 of the sequence, I set the start point to Step 9 of the displayed sequence (Page 2/Step 9 or Step 24...), so that it played only the last 8 steps of the 32-step sequence. That was great. But then I realized, I had no idea how to get back to the full sequence! So my question is, how do you switch the view back to Page 1, in order to set the starting note back to Step 1? Thanks in advance!
First, press the keyboard button that says “1-8” (C#), then set the first step by pressing Shift+Last Step(A#)+the step you want to be first. Next, navigate to the page containing the last step you want via the keyboard buttons, for example if you want 32 steps, you’d press the button that says “25-32” (G#). Then select the last step by pressing Last Step(A#)+the step you want to be last.
is there a way of just 'jamming out' basslines, i.e like playing along with a drum machine, the maunal editing of each note doesnt seem the most musical way, if i want to play a bass line i basically have to work out the ties rhythms etc before i input otherwise
failure here. can't even get this medium to start a sequence in record, as the record knob is adjusted to rec, and rest is turned on, but immediately touching the key, the rest light goes off...tried several different presets..
Hi, so, my moog can't remember the mod wheel position per step when editing a sequence as you've explained. I've watched the video several times and checked the instructions manual, but nothing works. After following these steps, the mod wheel doesn't function as a bipolar control. Any help?
Great video and explanation, but Moog... you have to know that the step sequencer is nowhere near intuitive. Thank god you released a software editor for this instrument, as the interface is way too much of a compromise.
Just got myMoog Subsequent 37 and found this! This is a fantastic tutorial, thanks for sharing!
This is a great video for Subsequent 37 owners! Please do a full series for us to access the full power of our beloved space-rated gear!
yes! please do a whole series for us sub37/seq owners. the more detailed the better. had a bit of a time figuring out how you setup vibrato (lfo2) on just those last 4 steps, then realized you must have first (before the video started) gone into the mod2 ctrl and turned on MODWHEEL. so many steps! but we love you guys for your depth ;)

You got it!
Ive had the Sub37 for over a year now. However with the Subsequent 37 representing the mature and final form of the Sub series, do you think its worth upgrade? How much of a sonic difference and spec difference is there?
Yes, yes, yes!!!
This was way more helpful than the manual and other updates. I didn't even know the Sequencer menus were hidden under the preset button...
Yes please make
This a series. I would
Like to
Know more about the lfos and how to use all there different functions.

This is great! Thank you so much and if we could have a few more videos like that would great as well !!
Great short demo thank you.
Please do more videos, this video opened up my sub to a whole new level. I love my sub and you just made it a lot more easier.
More videos like this would be really helpful!

Excellent info!..thanks for taking the time in producing this video!
This is such a great synth, I really enjoy it. : )

Omg i learned so much , having had my sub37 for a year!😊
Great tutorial, thanks! Really helped me get more out of the sequencer :)

Great stuff - more, more, more please!
Great video! Please, please, please, more video of tips using mod busses 1 & 2, thanks!
Noted!
Is it possible to record Modwheel movements instead of programming them step-by-step?
thank you, great vid, please do more videos on the subsequent37
More on the way!
Great tutorial !! Thanks
Great, more videos. I would like see how you use the CV control.
Thanks
Brilliant stuff!
Thank you
😆♥️
Great tutorial
Understand how to use it fully now
Please more videos like this!!! I think you will sell more Subsequent 37 if you do! ;)
MORE!MORE!MORE! Great vid- Thank you
Replying to myself- OK really great- New worlds of creativity are open.Well done
Thanks this is helpful for me : ) , I have the sub37 and I love it!!!
My Subsequent 37 just arrived today and music is seems pretty fine todo listen to.
Hmmm, the more I watch Subsequent 37 videos the more I want one! (And a Mother 32 and Subharmonicon)
moog should incorporate step by step parameter change for all parameters, like Elektron does. This would be amazing, just having mod wheel movement is kind of limited
Please show us how to get a few different iconic synth bass sounds!
#1 on my Wishlist = Imminent purchase.
Very informative ! GJ

using the record feature of the arp never gets old

Great video! Q; Maybe I missed it but, how do you save and recall a sequence you've written at a later time?
Saves in the same preset patch or innit patch that was sequenced after you sequence, edit and save. Select patch turn rotary to Seq an itl be recorded and saved there.

No, there is no BPM readout on the display
Thanks!

Absolutely! We're working on it.
Please can you help with the sub taking clock/bpm from a drum machine and the sequence looping in time?
Helpful!

That's awsome!
But how i sync the step sequencer to my host?
Thanks
Is there copy - paste steps function in the seqencer?
I just changed my 16 step sequence to 32 steps.
How do i copy the notes of the first 16 steps to the next 16?
Hi, so, my moog can't remember the mod wheel position per step when editing a sequence as you've explained. I've watched the video several times and checked the instructions manual, but nothing works. After following these steps, the mod wheel doesn't function as a bipolar control. Any help?
It would depend on what mod destination is chosen here, as they aren't all bipolar (VCA is a good example of this)
What happens when I have a recorded sequence, I play it with latch and then put it in rec and play something on top?
Can these sync/connect with the mother 32/dfam?
YES, Absolutely.
Where can I read these functions? Which key you have to press
Which function? Actually, doesn't matter - one button press holds all the answers. The play button on the video above!
So how can I add half notes?
Thanks - Question - why couldn't you label all these functions? I've had to stick duct tape on my keyboard to label them..otherwise I forget.
This does NOT work on my Sub 37. Pressing both buttons simultaneously does not activate step sequence mode.
For some reason my lights don't light up whenever I do a sequence is there something wrong with synth or am I missing something?
Sorry, by lights I mean my preset lights don't light up.
Is the same in the 'old' Sub37?
Yes
I could not make steps change Mod with the mod wheel. You were a bit hasty on that, sry.
Great video and explanation, but Moog... you have to know that the step sequencer is nowhere near intuitive. Thank god you released a software editor for this instrument, as the interface is way too much of a compromise.
Nice. Just wished you programmed a cooler sound.
I hafta sell my Sub Phatty and get one of these.

damn, can you go through the steps and menus a little bit faster next time?
