  • Last week we put up our first impressions review article and video of the new 2019 Honda Talon 1000R and 1000X - the first ever Sport UTV from Honda. It seems that the off-road world is excited about Honda’s newest machine, but some people wanted to see the Talon in action and hear the engine scream - rather than listen to us talk about it.
    While our feelings our hurt, it’s completely understandable that you would want to more of an opportunity to watch the Honda Talon 1000R and 1000X do their thing.
    To make amends, we have put together a video made up entirely of clips of Talon in action. We broke up the video into two sections - the first shows off the 68-inch Honda Talon 1000R and the second is all about the narrower 64-inch Honda Talon 1000X.

    I'm just glad the option to shift on the fly has finally come around. Now maybe Polaris can step up their game and make a rzr that shifts on the fly with a paddle shifter 6 speed.

    Sounds pretty good stock to be honest. But man, that thing should sound pretty mean with an after market set of headers and pipe. I feel like it needs to be just a touch louder, but not over the top where it's going to piss off everyone on the trail. Either way thanks for the footage. To everyone bashing it, remember when the rzr was first released? Yeah it took a decade to get it dialed in. In the near future we’ll see exhaust, suspension, wheel/tire, and turbo options come to light. I’m just happy this thing won’t cost $500 in belts each weekend and have that annoying “one speed” sound

    • @WooleySwampAdventures
      @WooleySwampAdventures 5 років тому +1

      To everyone making excuses for the underwhelming suspension and engine power, remember the Rzr was cutting edge, head and shoulders above anything else when it was released. Although this Honda is a solid first offering, it doesn't live up to it's cutting edge pre-release hype. It will get better with time, it will be a great platform for the play it safe niche Honda has always built towards.

    Thanks for more footage. This machine is really cool. These newer machines are making the Polaris engines sound rough. The absence of a front diff lock is a major let down but might be my only thing in that list. Travel could be better too.

    • @DoubleTap702
      @DoubleTap702 5 років тому +1

      The RZR, Wildcat XX and CanAm X3 all offer trailing arms in that width and all 3 have more travel. I’m a Honda guy, but I think they could have achieved better travel numbers in both models.

    • @JsGarage
      @JsGarage 5 років тому +2

      Gazlay43 yea you’re right I misspoke for some reason I was thinking those were 68” and up. I agree the travel numbers are off from expectations. It’s Honda though I never expected them to come out with an X3 destroying machine. They did come out with something unique though. The DCT will be cool until others follow suit. Honda waited way to long to get into the industry. Will be interesting to see how that trans holds up to power adders and increased power and abuse in general.

    • @DoubleTap702
      @DoubleTap702 5 років тому +1

      Jay P I’m very interested to see how their trans puts power to the ground compared to a CVT. I’m assuming it won’t have as much power loss as a belt driven unit.

    The 1000x didn't look to bad going through the whoops. Not as smooth as the R but still, not bad. Everyone seems caught up with the 1000R but I think the X is the one I'm leaning toward. You can always save up and get the R's suspension to swap out at a later date if need be!

    This should have had an inline 4 engine like a sport bike, it would've been an absolute joy with the dct transmisión, like a true sports car... the 2 cylinder engine is a real let down for us... The yamaha screams properly, and the sequential transmission like on race cars is awesome.. I think honda fell short with the touring like engine, they position them selves too close to the RZR, its even hard to tell them apart... So much potential, such a shame, looks like an RZR wannabe.

      All you know it alls dont realize a DCT transmission puts 30% more power to the ground than a CVT trans. This is right there with the 130hp machines and just because a particular brand sxs gets beat in a 500 ft. race by 6 or 10 feet ,,,, who cares. The models with the best suspensions will most likely be faster in the rough stuff due to being more stable to run hard,,, horsepower needs control. I think this Honda model will prove itself,,,, just give it some time.

    • @chimchim7
      @chimchim7 5 років тому

      Actually a modern cvt like those used on the X3 or the Team Clutches used on a XX only have a 19-24% DTL vs a manual or auto dct with about 15-18% loss. So not a big jump on loss, and definitely not a 30% difference. The biggest advantage to the cvt is the ability to hold peak hp rpm at wot and hold until it runs out of gear, where a dct must climb to max hp, shift then climb again to max hp leaving too much loss between shifts. Any percentage of dtl to dct is gained back by a cvt regarding its design of holding peak hp though its entire shift range. Will it run with a 130hp XX, or a 120hp base X3? Guess we will wait and see, but my guess is it will be about as quick as a XP1000, especially with its 28" tires.

    • @jessewoody5772
      @jessewoody5772 5 років тому +2

      Not everyone runs continuously at WOT. In the Woods you need throttle responce and compression braking and that’s where the Honda’s dct is going to dominate any cvt. Plus you won’t have to replace belts.
