Storming Hyrule Castle SNES (A Link to the Past style) - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

- This one took some time. When I started working on this, I was certain it wasn't gonna sound good and that I'd have to give up on it. To my suprise I think it came out very nicely! I tried my best to stay within the NES's 8 channel limit, but I have no doubt that I missed some parts.
This cover mainly takes the instruments and sounds from ALttP's Hyrule Castle theme. Including the techniques used for the snare-rolls and drum crashes. Enjoy and thanks for listening!

Hey folks, little reminder: If you like this video, I have made some other ALttP-styled covers of Zelda music as well! Here's a playlist ua-cam.com/play/PLjVTojiDW0-5TptG8q45nkxQRD13Q4FHA.html
Did you rip the name off that VGM Mix 'Storming Castle Guardia'? It's under 'Courage and Pride at Chrono Compendium under VGMix.

Hey, so I know I'm like a year late for the party, but what instruments did you use to make this, this is awesome and I can't figure out what combos to use to make songs like snes Zelda.
You mention you use Famitracker for NES music, but what do you use for this?
I knew the BotW music paid homage to AlttP. But hearing it in the SNES sound scheme is amazing!
I didn' knew this, but this explain Rito Village theme
Oh, it gets even better, as one of the countermelodies is the Wind Fish motif from Link's Awakening.
@@shelbyherring92 good call!
What strange words
@@leonardogomes9813 A lot of the music is from different Zelda games the music at the stables is Epona's song you can hear many different themes in the Hyrule Castle theme such as Balled of the Windfish, the castle theme from AlttP, or the them that plays when you are reaching Gannons boss room in OoT
A legitimately impressive translation of the original. It doesn't just sound good, it sounds _faithful._ Reverent, even. This is a genuine triumph of your ability to understand and translate what is a fairly complex song into a simpler format with minimal loss or compromise. You picked all the right melodies and supporting instrumentation; it's clean and precise without feeling empty or diluted. Might be one of my favourites of yours based on technical achievement alone. Excellent work.
there was like seven sounds playing at once at some point so not exactly faithful for gameplay with all the sounds, unless there was only one sound at a time excluding music. Snes had 8 sound channels so could only process 8 sounds at once
@@painedfetus8210 I believe a lot of games did use like 7 channels for music and whenever a sound needed to be played it would just override the instrument on that channel als long as the sound is playing so I'd stay it's still faithful. :)
@@Quasmok huh, I must never hear a lot of sounds then, I only ever really hear like 4 or 5 in music
This track makes me REALY sad i have like an outburst of sadness a mini depresion you can say good track still eight out of ten
@@painedfetus8210 Even Hyrule Castle in ALttP sometimes uses all 8 channels!
Imagine this playing in the final dungeon for A Link to the Past 🤩
That's exactly what I was thinking. This is THE definitive song for storming Ganon's HQ.
@@danzignyttafjell370 Just wait till you hear the theme song the plays *underneath* the castle in TOTK... O.O
@@7F0X7 man I'm playing TOTK now I can't WAIT to hear the theme!
@@7F0X7 That entire section and boss fight was so awesome! Really love how people managed to make Ganondorf a fruit mechant tho xd
Breath of the Wild music + A Link to the Past sound font = perfection
Any Zelda music sounds great in the ALTTP soundfont in my opinion
@@paulandrewgonzales1241 true!
Holy carp, I never realised how many motifs and general ideas this lifts from Link to the Past until now. This is a wild arrangement!
Yeah! Hearing it like this is eye opening.
"wild arrangement" I see what you did there
Holy carp 🐟
@@春金-r5b Prawmen. 🙏
Best track in the whole game, no question about it
And now it's even more ominous
There's just something about the SNES sound style that is so good! Same thing with 8-bit too. They have a certain charm and intensity. This is fantastic!

@@Overdrive-_- Yes, I am aware. I said both sound amazing.
@@alison4423 oh ok
My bad
I think it's the attack of the instruments. They just hit so hard and crisp, giving the song a sense of serious weight in comparison to more realistic samples which may hit less hard. They're also designed in a way that sounds good together.
This song always gave me the same vibe as Snake Eater from MGS3. They've got those held notes reminiscent of early Bond films, they're both very gloomy and minor with hints of triumph peaking through, and they both beautifully and slowly escalate in tension and power. The only difference is that for the context of this song, you're actually climbing more than just a ladder.
And everyone in the stronghold knows that you're within, and thus is out for your blood.
This is incredible. It's like it was always meant to be.
On a side note, I kinda hope we get the ability to customize more of how Link looks in BotW 2.
I kinda wanna give him some sick, pink hair y'know?
If we can’t put the hood down, we riot.
I have always wanted to be able to put the hood down without taking off the entire cloak, especially after seeing both Link and Zelda have hood-down cloaks in the first BotW2 trailer.
I just want the green outfit back, and not needing like 300 hours to get it
I also hope we have custom hairstyles for Link and even being able to dye it with colors as well
@@gamecavalier3230 I did but it was just okay. I ended up using the Skyward tunic because it matches the Cap of the Wild.
@@sasook I just hate the shorts
Just imagine Ganon's Tower with this theme instead of the Dark World Dungeon theme again
Dude this drawing or pixel art or whatever the term is, Is my favorite almost as good as the ZSS one you made 👌
God damn this track must be hardcoded to sound amazing no matter what style it's translated into. The climax gives me chills every time I hear it!
1:24 - 1:52 my favorite part. First time i was positively surprised hearing the legend of zelda overworld theme in the background. It was like here everything started(old music) and here calamity ganon will finally meet his/its end(new, dramatic music).
Damn, imagine this played in Ganon's Tower instead of the normal dark world dungeon music that plays in A Link to the Past.
This 100% sounds like it's from the game, great work!
This gives me goosebumps
same here
Easily one of the best tracks in the game. It feels like all of Hyrule is depending on you. It feels desolate, yet it’s hopeful. Great cover
Okay, this sounds awesome. I love the BoTW Hyrule Castle theme and the original ALLTP one near equally, so to see a cover of the former using the instrumentation of the latter just makes it all the better here.
Great job with the cover!
THIS IS AMAZING IT LITTERATLY SOUNDS LIKE ALttP!
I still remember the first time i discovered your channel, back when you did the ALTtP version of Tal Tal Heights... I was blown away then, the accuracy, how it sounded exactly like it would have in the setting from which you gave it. But this.... I have no words to describe how insanely amazing and perfect this is, cause those i just said alone dont even remotely do it justice. Do not ever stop doing things like this. You are too good.
I love this song, it invokes such an emotion i cant even explain. Really makes me think of my first time storming the castle. Uuuuggghhhh now I'm even more eager for BotW2. PLEASE NINTENDO
DUDEEE ITS SO PERFECT 😭😭😭
The Link to the Past motifs come full circle! This put the biggest smile on my face, you have no idea.
If A Link to the Past ever gets a Hero Mode (by mod or anything else), I'll 100% make sure to play this when I'm at Ganon's Tower.
Fits the atmosphere soooo well! Amazing usage of the soundfont, really had some nostalgic feelings here. Keep up the good work!
You know its strange, while whistling along to this tune i felt an overpowering sense of sadness that actually brought tears to my eyes on 2 occasions, this doesn't happen when i listen to it normally.
Love this song so much! Truly one of the best in the whole game.
Aw, I thought the second half would be the interior version. This is still a fantastic conversion to the SNES soundfont, though - I love it!
Zelda: "Rember it Link..."
Link: Rember the epic Castle Track
As soon as it hit 0:53 I got goosebumps! So good!
God your snes arrangements are so divine thank you for all your work
it's quite magical to hear the song sort of broken down like this
My absolute favorite track from the game and it sounds incredible with this sound font
whoa this works surprisingly well! excellent job my guy
so grandiose. you translated the song to this soundfont flawlessly!
My compliments to the chef on this one. If I didn’t play LttP, I would swear this sounds fresh out of that game.
The earthbounnd, LTTP, and super metroid sound boards are all superior!!
it's always the sample sounds that are really cool, I love super Metroids little ghost hooh that pops up in like every song
FFVI and Super Castlevania's are also very good ones
I honestly thought I was going to see someone turn the entirety of Hyrule castle from BotW into a pixelated adaptation to match A Link to the Past, but I do still like that someone was able to change the music from said game into something really interesting.
I love that one, the ALTTP fonts are working great
This is a beautiful rendition of the Hyrule Castle's Exterior theme. Truly a masterpiece.
Wow are these tears in my eyes?
This is... SUPERB. I am floored.
If you made a version with the interior song as well, and then mixed them? Oh my goddess I would die a happy Hylian.
Not gonna lie, the sounds were so reminiscent of the SNES theme that I legit thought for a moment that breath of the wilds theme was an improvement on the SNES theme. Job well done as this does feel like it belongs in the SNES game
The first video I ever saw of yours was the 8 bit BotW Hyrule Castle theme years ago and I loved it! It's so amazing to hear it remastered in your 16 bit LttP style. Keep up the great work! You really do amazing!
LttP nostalgia is definitely in my top 5 nostalgic video game "feels", and the music is naturally a big part of that. Thanks for making this! It's great to hear those classic instruments used again, and I'd bet someone unfamiliar with the LttP soundtrack would have a hard time picking this one out of a lineup of actual tracks from the game.
Fantastic work capturing this beautiful theme in that lttp sound font and it’s almost ethereal feeling
Nice program & well remixed. Thanks for the share man.
Fantastic as always, Loeder.
You're right, this did turn out really good 👍 Hats off to you good sir. Can't wait for the next Zelda one!
Two of my favorite games combine to recreate my fav theme of any final castle ever Thanks So Much!
Wow...
This is absolutely phenomal!
having played these old games, and habing heard most of the music they have to offer, i can tell you that this is incredibly faithful to the SNES games and the overall feel of that soundtrack.
This was an absolute masterclass. My mind is obliterated. 11/10 absolutely amazing.
This song is so perfect it almost made me cry.
This is absolutely excellent. Undoubtedly the best cross-generational arrangement of Zelda music I've seen, and of what is probably my favourite song from the Zelda franchise.
This is amazing. I don't know if you do requests, but it would be amazing to hear a SNES rendition of the Stone Talus theme.
god I have listened to this so much since the first day you uploaded it, its so amazingly done, it really puts into play the epic-ness that I felt playing link to the past as a child
I was so happy when this came out
I loved this theme so much. Became my instant go-to for the BOTW stage in Smash Ultimate.
This is absolutely brilliant!
I love a link to the past and BOTW is my favourite game of all time and this is my favourite track from the game.
This is like a dream
This could've been a legit final dungeon theme for lttp
Oh this was just gorgeous. Excellent work.
I'm not very familiar with LttP, but I think this would fit very nicely as the theme of Ganon's Tower.
Ganon's theme originated in ALttP.
@@ravenebony2267 as did the Hyrule Castle Theme
Soooo goood!! This one really turned out great!
Fantastic work like always
I love the 16-bit cymbals being cut off abruptly. Lol
I love the STANK the snes sound chip ads. It sounds like nothing else!
Dude, this is amazingly beautiful ❤️
It continues to baffle me that there are people who think BotW has a bad soundtrack. This track alone puts it in the upper half, but the rest of the soundtrack is genuinely incredible. Easily my favorite in the series.
I think the problem for the people who think it’s “bad” are more in the camp of that mindset because of how subdued the soundtrack is. There may be more tracks than any Zelda game that came before, but that doesn’t really matter when a majority of the time you’re hearing what sounds like a random arrangement of piano notes. I think the music is good, probably some of the best in the series. But I don’t have that connection with these songs like the older games, and I’ve only really gotten to hear the actual music by listening to it online. Some of the best songs in BotW are so quiet or being talked over in a cutscene.
@@MarcusTalks1 Yup, this. It doesn’t matter how good the soundtrack is if you only get to hear it for like 20% of your entire playthrough.
@@sasook exactly. Even the best songs like revali’s champion theme, one of the best tracks of the game/DLC. I feel was ruined a little by the voice acting.
As somebody who generally isn’t a believer in BotW’s soundtrack, the top, say, ten songs in it are up there with the best the series has to offer. But, as another commenter in this thread already said, it’s not really present for so much of the game. 60% of the time in the game, you’re not hearing the good music. You’re hearing either nothing or a single piano, which admittedly sets the mood of the game well, but it’s almost never going to be something you listen to outside of it.
Phenomenal job man.
I loved SNES. Great Work!
Badass as always
THIS IS AMAZING
Always when I play ALTP I always think think to myself "out of all the colours why the pink hair"?
Most likely pallet limitations on the SNES
@@nintendofanatic2837 it was actually to make a connection to Link's rabbit form cus it has pink fur, but in official art Link is his typical blonde
@@stephanos6128Actually, it was a translation error! Link’s hair was described as “Strawberry Blonde”, but the communication between the english and Japanese staff wasn’t great, so all the ended up understanding was the “strawberry” part.
Excellent work, dude.
Very nice! Sounds pretty like ALTTP. It is really greatly made! Good job!!!! :D
Whao....that’s.....so scary yet amazing
I didn’t realize how much I needed this in my life! 🔥🔥🔥
This is insanely well done
Awesome work!
My first song of the year to listen to! Been listening to this on loop for little while, and probably will for a while longer! I don't tend to comment on videos often, but thanks for the awesome track!!!
Also Happy New Year!!!!!
That was awesome 😎
I freaking love this
Incredible
*GOOSEBUMPS MAN*
This is awesome!
This is so good!
It literally sounds like a 1:1, just.. SNES. Very impressive
this translates so perfectly to SNES
i know i'm 2 years late but that orchestral drop at 0:22 sounds SO good. Genuinely sounds like it was taken straight out of ALTTP. I think having the original instruments for the Ganon leitmotif helps as well.
this is sooooo so good 😭🖤
Must say that i was waiting for hyrule castle when I finally reached the castle in breath the wild, but that theme is very good too and now with this remix it's amazing see that fits so perfectly
I love it!
That’s funny, this music in 16-bit sounds more like something you’d hear in a SNES Final Fantasy game than Zelda
Okay... This is good. Really good.
now THIS is bussin
added to my favs!
This is impressive. It sounds exactly like ALttP, but also the original song the same time! Keep up the good work Loeder!
This version feels like it would provide a greater sense of finality and doom in a SNES styled Zelda game than the original.
So good!!
the BEST rendition.
