    I don't think the CG-Max kills off as much as you think it does. Speaking in terms of US $, then the CG-ultra is $70 cheaper which for a number of people will perfectly be fine. There's still a market that doesn't worry/need to worry too much about future proofing and would rather have that $70 to spend on something like a POE switch. Yes, it would be nice to future proof, but for me I don't need to go beyond 1gig and if you use IPS/IDS, then you are only gaining a half gig. Moreso if you only need the device to be a router. The Cloud Key still has a market for those that need more storage which if you are running Protect with video recording, you will need. The UDR and Express are nice if you need an AP included with it if you didn't want to pay another $100 at minimum. Though I see the UDR being the odd man going by the waste side, but does still give you more ports than the Express. I think too many people are thinking that everyone has the same needs as they do and have lots of money in their wallet to spend it on things that don't suit them. That being said, I would have loved to look at the Max when I was replacing my UDM, but the Ultra suits my needs 100% and allowed me to keep $70 or more likely $200 because I probably would have wanted to upgrade the storage higher even though I didn't need it. It would have been nice, but I wouldn't really need what the Max offers and when it comes to the future I'll probably be looking to replace the Ultra when I get to the point of need more than 1 gig speeds.

      Also, this one is a UOSC. The UXG-Lite/Max are pure gateways. UOSCs are nice in the sense it's all in one box and managed for you, but people might prefer the added control & security offered by a SHC, and don't need Protect, Talk or Access.

      There is indeed a segment for each gateway / cloudkey. All these subtly different devices in my view require a more clear communication about the upcoming product range. This would help existing clients to make informed decisions on product upgrades or replacements.

  • @j340_official
    @j340_official 3 місяці тому +5

    If possible, can you test whether the new gateway supports more than 2 TB storage? Unifi claims the max is 2 TB. So, if you can, put 4TB drive in there to see if it mounts and is fully usable. If not then the cloud key will continue to have some appeal because it supports sata drives of at least 4 TB, possibly more. This is important for protect because if you have multiple cameras (2K or 4K) recording continuously, protect will eat thru 2TB relatively quickly.

Now the new Gateway max. What is that - There is the same processor as in the Gateway ultra. But now it can handel all applications all ports as 2.5 GB and also a higer IPS/IDS throughput. Is this same processor magicaly getting faster and then all youtubers shout out, what a great product ... .

    I have no interest in this device.
    When I deploy UniFi devices for people I just want the Gateway to be a gateway and have it connect back up to my hosted UniFi controller.
    These people don't want cameras nor do they want to run their own controller.
    I also don't want to use the UI cloud to manage the different sites.

      I enjoy my Express with the built in AP.. covers the whole apartment brilliantly... only thing I wuld have liked is better IDS stuff... and 2.5Gbit on all ports... don't need the video crap or anything... just need internet... and I would like to upgrade it all to 2.5Gbit... but the express is 1gig... 1 port in and 1 port out... which is hooked to 1 mini switch (also only 1gig) which goes to a secondary mini switch also 1gig only... if both the mini switch and the express (with AP) was upgraded to 2.5 then I would be happy as a clam

    ubiquti are scamming people now. the Max has the same hardware like the ultra, only the ports and Storage are changed. but on the ultra only can run the network app. instead the max can run all apps.
