The SE McCarty 594 is a versatile, vintage-inspired instrument that delivers both humbucking and single-coil tones in a reliable, roadworthy guitar. Thanks to its dual volume and push/pull tone controls, the SE McCarty 594 can seamlessly master humbucking and single coil sonic territories, so players can find all the tones they are looking for.
Its 58/15 LT “S” pickups were carefully designed to deliver warm, vintage-inspired tone with sweetness and clarity. Hey John, I am fairly new to the channel and want to commend you for your reviews. They are tight, no fluff and thorough. My only complaint is that I have spent about $2,500 since watching them!
I ordered mine black and gold! Can't wait. Will be my 14th PRS. I don't know what everyone's problems are lately. Nothing but bashing great instruments. Seen on several different medias.

Personally as a huge PRS guy, the McCarty 594 is the pinnacle of the PRS Core line.
I have both a Core SC594 and double cut 594, both artist tops..
And Now want one of the SE versions... I had an s2 594 but I just cant vibe with the s2 body carve so I sold it.
I had to do a double take to make sure that was an se with the finish on that, very nice! For around 1k these guitars really cant be beat, so much bang for the buck

I just got one of these. The pickups rip and the guitar is so easy to play. The short scale length makes bending strings a breeze. Couple rough fret ends, but not enough to affect playability.

Thanks JB! Always great to get your opinion! According to Paul, 24.594 was the original LP scale, per Ted McCarty! I've been wanting a core, but dang, that's R8-R9 $$ I knew the SE was coming. So in November-ish when PRS offered a 1 time batch of the 58/15 LT pups (USA, same as core) I bought a set. ($500, ouch!) Even the USA made S 594 uses import pups! So I'm going to try an SE and swap the pups for USA ones. If I'm not happy with that, I'll buy an S 594 and put them in that. If all that fails I'll just buy the damn Core 594 LOL. But it makes a good story and I tried!! Thanks John, appreciate you!! --gary
@gtr1952 I purchased the S2 594 a couple years back, extremely well made instrument to say the least. I would guarantee that if you put in those spendy pickups in the new se's that you or anyone for that matter could tell the difference between the core! You're on to something.....
@@barrymiller2272 Could tell the difference?? One difference I noticed between the SE and S is, on the S they cut both ends off, one end if flipped over and made a scarf joint for peg head angle, the other doubled for the heal. On the SE, they use 3 strips cut the long way (like a neck through) and glue them together. The 3 pc relieves any 'twist' in the wood and makes a stronger neck. Gibson and Guild did the same thing on some models. Yes, that $500 hurt, but IMHO that's half the tone!? I swapped pups in my R8 also. 8) --gary
@gtr1952...i now know what you're saying about the construction! Neat observation on you're part, and pretty sure Paul's team we're looking at the same thing. I mean, i don't think my neck will be doing the twist anytime soon, but that's one helluva smart thing to do!
The SE McCarty Standard single cut is solid mahogany with no maple top. It sounds a bit warmer than the flamed maple Custom (and is less expensive).

I love both guitars, but I think I'd get the single cut as it's a bit more resonant. But both sound fantastic. I've tried them myself. I love the pickups. Fantastic.

I'm old fashioned prefer the 25" scale models, especially as I have big hands it's a perfect medium between traditional Gibson and Fender lengths. I have the Zach Myers which was impeccably built, but its being 24.5, I run out of neck fast. Event this thing in your hands looks really short for a PRS. Well done, sir!
man, PRS have been killing it with the SE range lately. really torn between this and the DGT for my next buy. now if only they'd release an SE silver sky with a maple fretboard, then i'd truly be happy

yes and i've bought a 594 SE singlecut to....and now have exchanged everything (pickups, nut, electronics, wiring, knobs) and it actually sounds a lot better now...cheers...well worth it too....

Here again we have a situation where the SE is so close to the original and we have to ask is the core $2000 better? It sure doesn't sound like it. I have the S2 Custom 24 and I love the fact that the pickups don't have that low end Les Paul humbucker thump. I just wish it was 2 volume, 2 tone because when I run both pickups I like to roll off some of the neck and get rid of some muck without getting ice picky. Just my opinion. I'm a gigging musician and I might have to look into one.
Currently on Sweetwater - PRS McCarty 594, Core model: $4660. PRS SE McCarty 594: $899.

I bought the se Dgt, and it’s a great great rocking guitar, I think this sounds like it is more of a paf in a solidbody sound than a 335 sound like the Dgt is based on.

To my ears the pickups in the core model blow the SE ones away. I wish that wasn't the case. Just being honest.

Beautiful guitar but the 3 way switch looks out of place on the upper horn like that. Ruins the lines of the guitar.
I have the expensive version of this guitar, same colour and everything and I find it's playability absolutely horrendous. The strings are stiff as can be and bending is nothing less than a struggle. I've got 10 guitars, including the pros and it's the only one that feels this way. I absolutely hate the thing and as far as I'm concerned it was 5 grand wasted. I literally have a $700 Epiphone that puts the prs to shame.
Sounds like the neck doesn't have enough relief. it's a few mins to fix at the most.
@@tdunster2011 that was the first thing I checked and adjusted. I've been setting up guitars for over 40 years. All of my other guitars play like butter but this thing is as non compliant as donald trump...

I just bought this model. I didn't need it, (I have over 30 guitars, many high end). But the value of this guitar was just too good to pass up
