This is so moving for me, a man who grew up in the homophobic 1960s and 70s. I never thought I would be lucky enough to see this day - a day when a top contender for the White House is a gay man legally married to another man and the world takes it in stride. Not that we are not confronting bigotry, small-mindedness, and hatred still. But that the world has grown so much, broadened so much of its mind and heart and moved so much further to an enlightened state. To have lived as long as I have and seen how far we have come, is one of the greatest gifts of my life. God bless you Pete and Chasten Buttigieg. You make my aging gay heart leap with joy.

As a "youth", I can assure you, there's no one we hate more than Pete. He pretends to be progressive, but his politics are a far cry from progressive. He's a wolf in sheep's clothing. He looked at Sanders, saw Medicare4All, and then asked, "How can I come up with something that doesn't fundamentally change anything so by billionaire donors stay happy, but makes it look like I'm taking major steps" and came up with his public option.
There's a reason that Sanders crushed, overwhelmingly, among the young people in Iowa, in New Hampshire, and in Nevada. Because the problems we face are the same as everyone else in the working class. The billionaire class fucks everyone over in the same way, and taking them on is the only thing we can do.

@B I will support whoever wins the Democratic nomination but will be voting for Pete in the primaries. Although I do believe Bernie has a shot at beating Trump, the "socialist" label is going to hurt him with a lot of voters. Also, keep in mind that part of the reason why Bernie is winning is because Pete is sharing the moderate votes with Amy and Biden. As soon as these two drop out (hopefully no later than the day after Super Tuesday) Pete will undoubtedly pick up many of their voters. So, although I am not doubting Bernie's popularity I will say that Pete is not trailing far behind him.
Chasten, I am grateful for your courage and sacrifices. You stand on principle and are on the right side of history. You would make a terrific first gentleman. Keep focused and stay positive!

I posted today about the respect I had gained for Mayor Pete through this process. I think he could be a major player in national politics going forward. This is the first time I've seen or certainly heard his husband speak. I know have no doubt that Mayor Pete will be a player going forward in the Democratic party.

I absolutely love the both of them! It’s not just that I like Pete’s policies, it’s that the both of them make me feel hopeful. As a transgender gay youth, I didn’t think I’d live to see representation of people like me anywhere in Washington. I just hope everyday that maybe one day the government will fully acknowledged my community. But to think that maybe in the future, we could have a leader that actually cares about us, and wants us to live as ourselves instead of hiding. And a leader that actually worries not just about politics, but about the lgbt youth like myself being effected. That’s just mind blowing to me!
