As a child I remember how at school they would always remind us about peer pressure and how we didn’t have to follow the bandwagon because it didn’t necessarily mean it was the right thing to do. Now with social media I remember those comments and feel so sorry even for my children because FOMO is the norm and it’s a follow or be damned type of lifestyle in all aspects not just skincare.

To me, I know that skincare for the most part is not a necessity. Of course there is hygiene and SPF, but everything else is totally optional. But if it makes you feel good about yourself, go. That’s what I’m doing this year, my routine has several toners and essences just because that makes me feel better and prolongs the time which I spend with myself in mornings and evenings. I’m healing from depression and dealing with some bad life circumstances, but at least I have my rituals and they help me a lot.

Agree with sensitive skin is personal, I have sensitive skin and most products geared towards me always have lavender in them to help calm….. I’m highly allergic to lavender so there is few and far between products that I can use with the term sensitive on it. It’s really crazy how lavender is in tons of products that don’t label it considering it’s a allergen

You should look at products with Centella Asciatica (or “Cica”) in them. I have no idea why any facial skincare products have lavender, orange, bergamot, lemon peel, etc oils in them. Especially with the information we have about the damage they can cause to skin. Hope you find some products that work for you.

I find it so wild how many products aimed at sensitive skin have essential oils, lavender, chamomile etc..in them. I assume it’s to create a soothing scent? I’m not sensitive to lavender or essential oils in general. But most people with sensitive skin and/or migraine conditions I know irl are. So I do wonder who the target demographic for those products are.

Unfortunately due to the current world situation it's almost impossible to buy the products you are talking about, but i know about the ingredients more now to get smth more or less comparable and available. You gave me the best advice I’ve ever heard regarding skincare. That advice is to address one issue at a time rather than trying to fix everything at once. My primary issue is, has always been, and always will be sensitivity. Some viral ingredients (e.g., centella) help my skin while others (e.g., niacinamide) have to be used cautiously and others have to be completely avoided (e.g., salicylic acid and all salicylates) because of allergies. Regardless of age, there’s always more to learn. And because of aging, skincare needs keep changing.

Hello Dr. Idriss, I would like to thank you for teaching us about various ingredients in skincare and how their combination works for each skin type. Before finding your channel, I was also fear-mongered towards certain ingredients a.k.a. "clean beauty" because where knowledge lacks, fear and ignorance follow. At my own pace, I watched a lot of your videos (multiple times even) and took notes (to my "beauty book") because your skincare line and some of the products you mention in your videos are not available in my country (Turkey). However, armed with the knowledge that I acquired from you, I discovered similar products and customized my routine accordingly. I love your educational, sincere content and would love to express my heartfelt gratitude because you did give me the gift of knowledge that does not expire until the day I die. Keep up the awesome videos, warmest regards and love from a fan of yours!

You expressed what I think when approaching beauty and skincare. Thanks to people like you I'm 60% more confident in my body. I'm never an impulsive buyer, I asses my bubble of wants, needs and my problems quite well. I'm waiting for the industry to shift towards honest quality, price and quantity. Now there is a flood of not very good brands and navigating in it is rather difficult. The more people are hyped, the more blind they become, the industry can't be better if we think with our ideal, unresonable demands. The producers wanto to only make money, but consumers may not allow that by critical thinking. Recently a Polish brand acciddentally informed how much % of active ingredients fher is in their body balm. Mostly water, 13% mix of glycerin, shea and panthenol and smth else. How can such product do anything when it has very gentle ingredients at such a low %? Of course, high price and no results. It shoul be named water balm. As long as consumers don't indirectly fore producers to be fair, nothing will change. Hope I'll watch all your videos in the future. Thanks to them I don't get scammed. As a person with sensitive skin I have trouble finding fragrance free and colorless cosmetics, medicinal cosmetics and procedures which won't irritate my eyes and skin. There is so little on the market. Even drugs, ointjents are fragranced. I thouth about some procedures instead, but I'm not sure. Nevertheless, great I can use your knowledge for my needs. Education and science are key in all aspects of life. Recently I educated myself how to choose a good orthopedic pillow. This takes time. Not much comes with ease in life. My thought are exactly ghe same. Have a nice day.

Skincare in general is not a scam it has certainly transformed my skin. But skincare will never replace what plastic surgery or other invasive things can do for more dramatic results. I see people leave comments after merely trying a product for a week or even days saying “ I still have sagging or I still have wrinkles “ that’s not what skincare is for.

Would love a deep dive on closed comedones! I use PC bha but I’m still constantly getting them, esp on chin. Using glycolic/lactic acid every other day tends to be too irritating and I’m already using tret.

I use prescription retinol and vitamin c. Around those, I use a double cleanse at night if I have been wearing makeup, followed by a good thick moisturizer. In the morning, I use a micellar water on a pad for gentle cleansing and a little pick me up, followed by a serious sunscreen/moisturizer. Then, I cycle in other products as needed. I tend to play with serums, balms, mists but being careful to not overdo it. I so appreciate the knowledge and common sense Dr. Idriss shares with us. She is my favorite skin guru!!! 🌺

I am 50+ that has always taken care of putting sunscreen on but when I hit a certain age in my 40s, I felt like I had to hurry and catch up with all the creams lotion and serums. Unfortunately, that led me to wanting to put everything in my face without being educated about it, results were a very sensitive chaffed skin. I did not trust skin care anymore because I felt every time I put something on my face it would sting and burn or worse break me out. After watching your channel over and over (Girl, I have watched hours and hours till 4 AM one time lol). my skin looks so different now I’m not afraid to put on the recommended products on my face. Especially yours!! Thank you so much Idrisse you have turned me into a nerd. Much love.

Thank you for your info! After 18 years with acne, I finally feel like I know what I’m doing with skincare. I went through a period where I thought oils could solve my problem, it was all over UA-cam. It made my skin so much worse and so angry. I went to dermatologist and I was made to feel like an idiot, which I get 😅 but damn, so I felt like that wasn’t an option for me either.

Great topic. This brings up so many sub-topics. I’ll get back to some of them later but for now, check this out. At Target, shopping for my toilet paper, there were 3 little girls behind me, no more than 10 or 12 years old. I turned around to look at them when they were asking each other which aisle has the skin serums. REALLY??? ARE YOU SERIOUS??? It’s the little kids that are following whatever trend is out there. This shocked the shi* out of me. Social media can be great but also can be dangerous.
First I want to say that I have great skin and personally think DNA has a lot to do with it skin. I’m not bragging just telling it like it is. At 40, I began using a serum and emollient religiously. I’m in my late 60s and still have great skin. I look younger than I am. 9 years ago I severely injured my back. My mama is 92 and I can’t help her. STRESS! After 19 years I had to put my kitty down in the middle of receiving news that I have breast cancer. S T R E S S!! While my skin looks good
( and really who gives a shit at this point) the bag, the luggage under my eyes are huge. Why? Plz don’t say stress …. Lord knows I know that. But why does stress manifest under the eyes? If you read this, THANK YOU 🙏
