As a child I remember how at school they would always remind us about peer pressure and how we didn’t have to follow the bandwagon because it didn’t necessarily mean it was the right thing to do. Now with social media I remember those comments and feel so sorry even for my children because FOMO is the norm and it’s a follow or be damned type of lifestyle in all aspects not just skincare.
Yes indeed your right.
Exactly. We also had marketing class once/week in grammar school. Add this to a pragmatic and logical father. Extremely grateful...
To me, I know that skincare for the most part is not a necessity. Of course there is hygiene and SPF, but everything else is totally optional. But if it makes you feel good about yourself, go. That’s what I’m doing this year, my routine has several toners and essences just because that makes me feel better and prolongs the time which I spend with myself in mornings and evenings. I’m healing from depression and dealing with some bad life circumstances, but at least I have my rituals and they help me a lot.
Do you mean hygiene and SPF are cleanser with sunscreen?
@@SarahEve97 yes.
I'm sorry about the depression. It can be a heavy load. Sending much peace 🕊️ to you.
I do exactly the same! And yes, skin care is part of my self care.
sending you love!
“Feeling that you are taking care of yourself every day, is not a scam “ The community Thank you Dr Idriss! 🤟🤓💜
I love how the dermatologists are having their season on social media. I was telling a friend it’s one way that Covid has been beneficial. If you look back to 4/5 years ago. Content from dermatologist was very limited. Yeah, we saw something from 1/2 people, but not with the HONESTY that comes forth now. Thank you 40BSD! Greatly appreciated 😊
I have a coworker who has 3 kids and married. She told me she doesn't have time for skincare. I told her "No time? Sunscreen in the morning, retinol at night and stay consistent." ❤
People who say that about things like this have no interest in it. She has 10 minutes in a full day. If she doesn't, she's a sIave of her family.
time can also mean not having time to research
But they often have plenty of time for makeup...
@@Maialeen maybe offer to babysit rather than judge. people refrain from selfcare when they are overwhelmed or depressed and can use help

The biggest scam in skincare is “medical grade.” This marketing term means that a lot of people think you get more effective skincare products if you spend more $. Appreciate Dr Idriss, The Budget Dernatologist, Dr Jenny Liu, Dr Daniel Sugai, Dr Alexis Stephens, Dr Sam Ellis for the great skincare product info on UA-cam.
So is skin good or bad ?
Yea so true. For example ZO skin most of their products are scam
No mention of Dr Natalia Spierings???
@@drc4168 how tf is he gna mention everyone stfu
What about Dr Dray? 😭
Honesty and integrity goes a long long way. Thank you. Always nice to learn and grow.
Could we have a video on grey hair, and what we can do to reverse and prevent greying?
Is that possible? I don’t think so
She’s such a great speaker. Very informative and powerful reminders. Thank you Dr. 🫰🏻
I just recently discovered you and have learned sooo much in the last few days!! I finally have a better understanding of my skin conditions and how to treat them and I am so excited to see how things change for me in the coming weeks and months
I'd love a in depth ingredient vid. 💜 I was rewatching the "sensitive skin" vid from like 2 years ago (im an true nerd) and you said something about doing a video about different alcohols. I would love a vid serries dedicated to common ingredients so we are more empowered when we are lookinh the ingredient list. Thank you for all the content love ya take care❤
I love how open and honest you are about how to get the best results from our products. I may have missed it, before I subscribed, but I'd love a video on recommendations for teen acne. My daughter's are both experiencing hormonal and body acne. We've tried so many things, including oral antibiotics, and nothing seems to help for more than a couple of weeks. I also don't want them to overdo and stress their skin that way.
THIS!!!! OMG you spoke ALL THE WORDS THAT NEEDED TO BE SAID!!!!
It’s a WE problem!!! Thank you for this AWESOME video!!!
Agree with sensitive skin is personal, I have sensitive skin and most products geared towards me always have lavender in them to help calm….. I’m highly allergic to lavender so there is few and far between products that I can use with the term sensitive on it. It’s really crazy how lavender is in tons of products that don’t label it considering it’s a allergen
Same. Chamomile is supposed to be calming, but it mimics ragweed. My skin will have none of it.
You should look at products with Centella Asciatica (or “Cica”) in them. I have no idea why any facial skincare products have lavender, orange, bergamot, lemon peel, etc oils in them. Especially with the information we have about the damage they can cause to skin. Hope you find some products that work for you.
I find it so wild how many products aimed at sensitive skin have essential oils, lavender, chamomile etc..in them. I assume it’s to create a soothing scent? I’m not sensitive to lavender or essential oils in general. But most people with sensitive skin and/or migraine conditions I know irl are. So I do wonder who the target demographic for those products are.
since I'm following you, my skin has so much improved by using the right products, that make sense for my skin. the knowledge you pass on help me immensely in choosing what to use. thank you!
The most powerful, important video you have ever done and I thank you sincerely for the time you spend with us nerds. Sending love from New Orleans.
Wow thank you so much!
I always appreciate your openness, honesty, and directness about skin care. Thank you for teaching us every Saturday, I truly look forward to spending time with you. I still use your products everyday and see results! ❤
Good Morning Nerds!!
😍Love learning w/Dr. Idriss & my fellow nerds
You explain things so well
Dr.Shereene Idriss can you do this series but about skin care devices that would be amazing!!!!!!❤ Thanks loved the episode!
I needed to hear this. Thank you!!!!!
Appreciate your honest take on this subject as a 60 yr old lover of makeup and skincare skincare I absolutely agree. It’s being consistent with a product s and sunscreen. Really have learned a lot from your channel. Thank you!💜
Thank you for what you do, Doctor. I'm so glad i found your channel. I live in Russia, and skincare education is very lacking where i come from. I couldn't learn from my family because skin and haircare have never been amongst the priorities here. Blnow i'm over 40.For years I used to learn from beauty bloggers, but it didn't really work. I understand why by now. Thanx to you and a few other professionals out there who dedicate their precious time to educating people somebody like myself can make informed skincare choices. Unfortunately due to the current world situation it's almost impossible to buy the products you are talking about, but i know about the ingredients more now to get smth more or less comparable and available. Looking forward for the day when i would be able to purchase your skincare to thank you for the hard work. I hope it will happen someday.
I love this! I totally appreciate you! Thank you so so much!💕
Doc, you are so right ! thank you for our saturday pillow talk !
Hope you are OK and thank you for all your content, you have helped me so much already 🙏
Dr. Shereene, I love this speech! Nailed it from beginning to end.
I'm a fairly new subscriber and a silent listener. I truly am listening. Thank you for today.
Thank you for the overdue frankness. It's true that there is not a company out there that wouldn't jump on the chance to make more money. But!!! Thankfully we have you to teach and inform with honesty. Bless your nerdy heart!
You gave me the best advice I’ve ever heard regarding skincare. That advice is to address one issue at a time rather than trying to fix everything at once. My primary issue is, has always been, and always will be sensitivity. Some viral ingredients (e.g., centella) help my skin while others (e.g., niacinamide) have to be used cautiously and others have to be completely avoided (e.g., salicylic acid and all salicylates) because of allergies. Regardless of age, there’s always more to learn. And because of aging, skincare needs keep changing.
Great video!!!! I feel some people needed to hear this from someone in your position.
Just got my depuffer delivered today. It definitely works. Got my vote ✌️
Thank you for this information. Love you!
❤she's all we need!!
Thank you for always keeping it real Dr. Idriss ❤ 60 yo here who LOVES your products. I’ve been using them for 3 months and Hallelujah 🎉 my skin tone is definitely more even and soft. Your videos are super packed with useable info. Thank you. Will you please talk about how to decrease dry and irritated eyes resulting from tretinoin use. (I use a light formula, and not close to eyes, 3 to 4 nights a week - other nights are for your mask!). Much appreciated 😊
You and Dr. Dray changed my view on skincare. The basics, sunscreen…that’s all I need.
I needed to hear this. Thank you so much 💓
Simply the best. Learned alot from you and taught my friends. Thank you!
This video really helped me, thank you!!
Thank you for your wisdom Doc!
Thank you for talking about the link between mental health and our skin - it's comforting to hear a professional confirm that skin health can really be a determining factor for mental wellbeing.
I would be interested in hearing about purchasing skincare products from Amazon! Sending love from Canada ❤
Thank you Dr Idriss for keeping it so real. I’ve learned a lot from your videos and how informative they are.
Aww thank you so much!! ❤️
Great talk Dr! Very straight forward 👍
Yess, you’re so right I believe you 100% ! ❤❤
I'm so glad you made this video! Style theory's video got me so confused
Bravo Dr. Idriss!!
Thank you for such an excellent, honest, informative video.
You are a blessing ❤
Thank you so much for your videos!
I would really love to hear your thoughts on skincare when getting ready for a date or event. We (hopefully) know not to try new things before important events but I’m curious on nice things TO do before. Thank you so much again ❤
Love the flash mask 😅
Love the cushion on the background 🙂
Would you be able to film a longer video about perioral dermatitis? I’ve seen some of your shorts but I’d really appreciate a longer one recommending what to do to help, what products to use, what medications to use or avoid, etc. I’ve been struggling with this for years and I went to a dermatologist and they put me on doxycycline and it’s only gotten worse. I love your videos and appreciate your knowledge so I’d love to watch a full video on this
I can’t thank you enough for recommending me serums without hyaluronic acids and making me realize i didn’t need it. the aveeno oat serum you recommended has been a game changer for me .❤
I would love to see a full tour of your office!
Please do a video on how to clean a humidifier! My skincare routine is up to par but no matter what I do my humidifier never seems clean enough especially when it’s so cold out.
There's usually a cleaning section in the humidifiers manual and most of them can be found online!
Love your channel I have been sharing your videos with my Dtrs.
All your videos are great Dr. But this particular one hits me differently. Thank you for being one of the few out there who are being honest ❤
Good Morning! Thank you for another great video. God has blessed you with beautiful skin, and I like that you said you have to listen to your skin's needs.
Very well said angel!!!! 💜💜💜🫶🏻💜💜💜
Thank you can't wait to try yours❤
Excellent video! Thank you. I especially appreciate the idea that we don't all have the same needs regarding ingredients in skincare. I have found less is more suits me, a minimal approach. And thank you for stressing the need for sunscreen.
Thank you so much! 🙌
This was soo good ❤
We needed this! I would like to see a video about skin care while taking accutane.
Great videos Shereen. I was listening to someone speaking about ingredients in our skincare altering our skin microbiome which I thought was interesting. They claimed if we left our skin alone it will naturally do all the things for us.
Hello Dr. Idriss, I would like to thank you for teaching us about various ingredients in skincare and how their combination works for each skin type. Before finding your channel, I was also fear-mongered towards certain ingredients a.k.a. "clean beauty" because where knowledge lacks, fear and ignorance follow. At my own pace, I watched a lot of your videos (multiple times even) and took notes (to my "beauty book") because your skincare line and some of the products you mention in your videos are not available in my country (Turkey). However, armed with the knowledge that I acquired from you, I discovered similar products and customized my routine accordingly. I love your educational, sincere content and would love to express my heartfelt gratitude because you did give me the gift of knowledge that does not expire until the day I die. Keep up the awesome videos, warmest regards and love from a fan of yours!
Great vlog your honesty is fantastic 😊
Education is the only thing that can put an end to fear and make us choose better, well said! There are so so many options for everything that we really need to be specific and that requires education
🙌so many people need to hear this. Especially from professionals and platforms where they have the opportunity to speak up.
I cannot believe I bought into the whole Clean and Clear line when I was younger because it looked fun.
Omg I just saw you have more than 1m subscribers 🎉🎉 congratulations!!! 🎈
I’ve been here since the beginning. You are the best of the best!!
Aww thank you so much for being a nerd! ❤️
Thank you Dr Idriss!!!
🙌🙌
Listening to you talk is so therapeutic 😂
thank you, doc! helpful as always🩷
💜💜💜
Well done. 👏
Omg love this so glad subbed to u u be talking facts 👏💙
🙌🙌
You expressed what I think when approaching beauty and skincare. Thanks to people like you I'm 60% more confident in my body. I'm never an impulsive buyer, I asses my bubble of wants, needs and my problems quite well. I'm waiting for the industry to shift towards honest quality, price and quantity. Now there is a flood of not very good brands and navigating in it is rather difficult. The more people are hyped, the more blind they become, the industry can't be better if we think with our ideal, unresonable demands. The producers wanto to only make money, but consumers may not allow that by critical thinking. Recently a Polish brand acciddentally informed how much % of active ingredients fher is in their body balm. Mostly water, 13% mix of glycerin, shea and panthenol and smth else. How can such product do anything when it has very gentle ingredients at such a low %? Of course, high price and no results. It shoul be named water balm. As long as consumers don't indirectly fore producers to be fair, nothing will change. Hope I'll watch all your videos in the future. Thanks to them I don't get scammed. As a person with sensitive skin I have trouble finding fragrance free and colorless cosmetics, medicinal cosmetics and procedures which won't irritate my eyes and skin. There is so little on the market. Even drugs, ointjents are fragranced. I thouth about some procedures instead, but I'm not sure. Nevertheless, great I can use your knowledge for my needs. Education and science are key in all aspects of life. Recently I educated myself how to choose a good orthopedic pillow. This takes time. Not much comes with ease in life. My thought are exactly ghe same. Have a nice day.
Speaking the truth 🙌🏾
Your skin looks amazing today..
I’ve been using Dove soap and Olay sunscreen/moisturizer for over 40plus years and I have to say I think my skin looks pretty healthy. It’s also genetic.
My mom and aunt (identical twins) have only used olay sunscreen/moisturizer combo and a basic face wash maybe it's dove soap for at LEAST the 31 years I've been alive and they're 62 years old and are flawless
I heard sooo many people use this combo and say they/someone they know looks good
My skin is looking better after following your advice, but girl I’m goin through it with self esteem issues. I have all my adult life. I appreciate the “pep talk” at the beginning.
You are the best!!!
Off topic: I love your pillow! It's a translation of my favorite polish saying ("nie moj cyrk, nie moje malpy"), it means: it's not my problem/busness. It's so funny to see it in your video 😁!
The Day I started following your channel, was the DAY I FINALLY BECOME EMPOWERED ABOUT SKINCARE💜💜💜💜💜
Great video! Thanks for opening my eyes. Donna
Thank you Donna! 🫶
Hi! I would love to learn about Sculptra. Where is it safe to have it injected and where it should not be injected. Thank You!
Skincare in general is not a scam it has certainly transformed my skin. But skincare will never replace what plastic surgery or other invasive things can do for more dramatic results. I see people leave comments after merely trying a product for a week or even days saying “ I still have sagging or I still have wrinkles “ that’s not what skincare is for.
Love your videos
Haven’t watched yet but I saw the thumbnail and wanted to say I like your look! Love the earrings 👍🏿
Wise words 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Can you go into how to use salicylic acid for oily scalps? How to use it/how long to leave on/how often, etc.
please discuss safest ingredients to use after microneedling. oils, serums, home made all natural elixirs!!! please please please
Because of you Dr. Shereene, my skin has slowly and drastically improved! THANK YOUUU SO MUCH from the bottom of my heart! I've now started my retinol journey because of your lectures to us! ILYSM!!!! 🥰🥰
Awww ILYSM!!! 🫶
Would love a deep dive on closed comedones! I use PC bha but I’m still constantly getting them, esp on chin. Using glycolic/lactic acid every other day tends to be too irritating and I’m already using tret.
Where is the best place to patch test products?!?
I would love to see you talk about the skincare at Trader Joes.
APPRECIATE YOU❤❤❤❤
I use prescription retinol and vitamin c. Around those, I use a double cleanse at night if I have been wearing makeup, followed by a good thick moisturizer. In the morning, I use a micellar water on a pad for gentle cleansing and a little pick me up, followed by a serious sunscreen/moisturizer. Then, I cycle in other products as needed. I tend to play with serums, balms, mists but being careful to not overdo it. I so appreciate the knowledge and common sense Dr. Idriss shares with us. She is my favorite skin guru!!! 🌺
I am 50+ that has always taken care of putting sunscreen on but when I hit a certain age in my 40s, I felt like I had to hurry and catch up with all the creams lotion and serums. Unfortunately, that led me to wanting to put everything in my face without being educated about it, results were a very sensitive chaffed skin. I did not trust skin care anymore because I felt every time I put something on my face it would sting and burn or worse break me out. After watching your channel over and over (Girl, I have watched hours and hours till 4 AM one time lol). my skin looks so different now I’m not afraid to put on the recommended products on my face. Especially yours!! Thank you so much Idrisse you have turned me into a nerd. Much love.
Thank you for your info! After 18 years with acne, I finally feel like I know what I’m doing with skincare. I went through a period where I thought oils could solve my problem, it was all over UA-cam. It made my skin so much worse and so angry. I went to dermatologist and I was made to feel like an idiot, which I get 😅 but damn, so I felt like that wasn’t an option for me either.
I'd love to learn more about lasers especially these pop up affordable laser places that are becoming popular.
Great topic. This brings up so many sub-topics. I’ll get back to some of them later but for now, check this out. At Target, shopping for my toilet paper, there were 3 little girls behind me, no more than 10 or 12 years old. I turned around to look at them when they were asking each other which aisle has the skin serums. REALLY??? ARE YOU SERIOUS??? It’s the little kids that are following whatever trend is out there. This shocked the shi* out of me. Social media can be great but also can be dangerous.
First I want to say that I have great skin and personally think DNA has a lot to do with it skin. I’m not bragging just telling it like it is. At 40, I began using a serum and emollient religiously. I’m in my late 60s and still have great skin. I look younger than I am. 9 years ago I severely injured my back. My mama is 92 and I can’t help her. STRESS! After 19 years I had to put my kitty down in the middle of receiving news that I have breast cancer. S T R E S S!! While my skin looks good
( and really who gives a shit at this point) the bag, the luggage under my eyes are huge. Why? Plz don’t say stress …. Lord knows I know that. But why does stress manifest under the eyes? If you read this, THANK YOU 🙏
I love this spesific title cuz not a long time ago I also saw a video by a derm too with similiar, but different approach title 😉
Just added my vote for the depuffer. Nerds UNITE!
I love your videos they are very informative. Can you explain the difference between retinol and retinal? Thanks!
