  • All of our barcode scanning and timing is now done via the Virtual Volunteer app, so we decided to share a little bit more about how it works. It's really simple, we promise!
If you are barcode scanning or timing at any parkrun event, all you need to do is download the parkrun Virtual Volunteer app from one of the links below:
    👉App store parkrun.me/2rqcf

Huge thanks to Gary Cheary, Event Director for Sutton Park parkrun, for allowing us to this video.

As a RD that's a scary video as the phone only has 5% charge at the end! The first instruction to ensure you have a fully charged phone is very important :)

It only has 1% at the start!! That's even more of a worry! haha.

It would be good if this video pointed out (1) that the user presses the go triangle when the run director says “go”. This is not obvious to all my volunteers. (2) As it will be 15+ minutes between starting the clock and tapping for the first finisher it would be good if the video mentioned what the volunteer can and can’t do with their phone while they are waiting for their first runner. For example on my phone you can put it into sleep mode and put it in your pocket. (3) it would Also be useful to mention that if you accidentally touch the screen or you miss a runner then don’t try to correct things, just tell the number check when you think you went wrong.

Be aware to shield your phones screen during wet weather. A raindrop that hits the screen has often clicked the first finisher. This highlights how sensitive the phone screen is.

Why is the information I need on only a quarter of the page? The rest is unneeded crap. It would be so much easier to follow on the whole page

So to be clear, there will only be one timer per event now? You also mention barcode scanners in the comments above - I'm unclear how this will all work at the funnel without becoming an unholy mess when several runners arrive in a bunch; please describe the whole process so that us volunteers know in advance of Saturday how it all fits together.
Also, at 01:15 where is the stop button (I only see "Reset")?

There will be likely two timekeepers. The barcode scanners will scan finish token and runners parkrun barcode. The timekeeper file and the barcode scanner files are then brought together into one and the results processor then checks through using the number checker sheet that these two files have aligned correctly. @@peteringles1035 Thanks for the explanation Peter... and the link (the existence of which - as a long time volunteer - I was previously unaware).

@@Robutube1 where it says “reset” is where it says “stop” (it changes to “reset” after you press “stop”) - I used it this weekend for the first time; so much easier and more foolproof than the stopwatches!

@@NeilTruelove Many thanks Neil. I've got to be honest, I've stayed well clear of volunteering at my local PR because of these badly explained changes.
