@@urmom-jb3nz Claire's is pretty bad because they're not very good at sterilizing their tools and their stations, they also use peircing guns which can be really bad especially for cartilage piercings.
ur mom If you use a gun you could shatter your cartilage so it’s better to get it done at a piercing/tattoo place because those places will most likely be more sanitary and professional
I was so lucky, mine healed in 6 months and I’ve never had a problem with it. 😄 My rook tho... Omg it has been so stubborn. Actually cleaning it less helped me loads!! I cleaned it twice a day before, but I got lots of irritation, a bump and green stuff around the piercing. No joke, I only clean it when I shower; 3-5 times a week depending on how active I am. I let water run on my ear and I just dry it with a q-tip and that’s it. I do NOT touch my rook unless I HAVE to. And it’s doing amazing! No green stuff, bump is gone, pain is gone. 😊👍🏼
i’ve been debating getting my helix pierced for years now i guess this is a sign to do it 😎 edit: 8 months later and i got my double helix done today ! i love it sm :D
i had two helix piercings done at the same time, both with a ring. she told me that because i bled a lot i’d likely swell a lot, so it was safer for me to go for a ring than have my swelling ‘swallow’ the ends of a stud. i’m no professional, but it worked out well for me. it was one of my least painful piercings and months later i haven’t had any issues with the rings besides my hair getting caught in them occasionally, so i’m always careful :)
Got my first Helix done with a ring. It was irritated a lot BUT the times my ear swelled up a lot the ring was big enough. Changed it to a labret stud 7 months after and NO irritation since then. Got a second helix with a labret stud. But now it's swelling a lot and maaannn...I think I need to get a longer bar...hurts like hell. Never had it this bad with the other piercing that had the ring. And hair gets caught in both, imo even more in the studs. Just my experience. 😂
@@est-fm9ui okay so I got mine with a ring and i was suggested by my piercer that I should rotate is every day so should I do or no like ifk if rotating would cause it to swell up or something and would not rotating it be a problem later?
I just got my helix piercing an hour ago, thankfully I did all of my research before entering the parlor I went to. It was also recommended by a coworker who she as well, has a helix piercing as well.
I actually had mine done at Claire's yesterday. It wasnt a terrible experience. Minimal pain and the manager was experienced enough. I guess it depends on the store. I'm so impulsive so when I saw the free piercings sign I couldn't stop myself 😅
a good trick to be able to sleep on a freshly pierced ear is to use a neck pillow and have your ear in the middle of the hole so that its not touching anything
I pierced the whole outer part (helix) of my ear, that's seven piercings at once and they put rings through all of them 😂😅 It was done at a well known piercing studio and I had no issues besides almost fainting every time i cleaned them. Thank god i had help with that!
I want to pierce the whole outer part of my right ear with helix, but I've already had industrial on my left ear. Do seven or six piercings ( my ear is small, so I don't know if seven can be pierced) at once hurt a lot?
I just got my helix around 2 months ago and I actually got a ring. I did get a bump but at this point it is very healed. I cannot sleep with that ear NORMALLY but with my hand under my head it’s completely fine. Just letting y’all know. And it rarely hurts. Honestly you can get a hoop just make sure to take care of it enough. :)
I’ve just had 4 helix piercings done at the same time and I didn’t do much research. I came across this video an thought “hmm do I really wanna know”. I was kinda scared I was gonna hear something I didn’t want to hear. But I am so glad I watched it! I got some extremely valuable information and thankfully nothing scared me 🤣 Thank you for this 🙌🏻
I got the helix done forever ago when I was younger, before I was smart had it done with a gun, did not work out. Years later I got it done properly by a professional and it's so much better and I love it
Got my helix done with a hoop and never had any issues with it. I asked them piercer at the time because I am a swimmer and have to wear a swim cap she said it would catch less and ive never had a problem with it. It healed very quick with no bumps and no difficulties
I have had this piercing twice. The first time I got it via a gun and had a stud put in. I was in the worst pain for months. It never fully healed and every few months it would be sore again and bleed. After two years or so I took it out. I just recently got it repierced with a reputable peircer and got a ring. The piercing has ZERO pain after a week. I recommend a ring over a stud. As a woman with extremely long fine hair my stud would get pulled and wrapped into my hair A LOT. My ring has never been pulled by anything, just be slower while brushing your hair.
Had one a few years ago; the ring put a dent on the outer top of my ear that sometimes hurt, so took it out and it closed up rather fast considering I had it for 3 years. Had it redone yesterday with a stud and flat back... so much better. May try a smaller ring when it heals. 😊
@@discardedcheesecloth9214it has been almost 7 weeks since i did it and i ended up having a bump that disappeared as soon as i switched to a labret stud. so if you wanna pierce yourself make sure to not use a ring

Yes! I I started with a ring and I got continual irritation, pain, and a piercing bump on both sides. After I switched out my helix piercing that wasn’t a ring, the piercing finally began healing beautifully. Please do not start with a ring.
@@strwberrymarmalade you’ll want a bar with a flat back. Then go back when healed or close to healed and downsize your jewelry. You can ask your piercer at that time if you can switch to a hoop

I never downsized with my helix either. I had never heard that until I watched this video. I had the same bar in for probably about a year before I switched to a hoop and I didn’t have any problems
Hey guys. Read past customer reviews regarding ability, aftercare advice and importantly, hygiene of the studio. Have all your aftercare kit ready prior to getting any piercing done and don’t experiment with anything. Like any injury, leave it alone as you wouldn’t fiddle with a wound if it was anywhere else. Also invest in a travel pillow or two incase you roll over, your likely to wake up when you feel the travel pillow. ❤️

@@isabellalucca5816 it mean you go to your piecer or 3rd party to get a shorter bar, meaning you are making it smaller thus using the word ‘downsizing’ Hope this helped :D

@@isabellalucca5816 So, I’m not familiar with the healing process in a helix piercing using hoops but I don’t believe you have to downsize the hoop but you might want to if your hoop is constantly snagging stuff ( that is after swelling has gone down and almost completely stopped which may take many months ) Also yeah you may want to see about getting a bar instead of a hoop but that’s up to what works for you I’ve just seen greater healing success rate with a bar! But I’m not sure about what would happen if you were to put a 18 g or 20 g piercing in the future ( sorry )

I got my conch done and it swells if I turn my head a little and sleep on the side. So I bought a pillow on etsy that has a whole on the center for sleeping on my side. It is a life saver.
I have mine and it's healed and I sleep on it all the time. sometimes it depends on the jewelry that you have in but it's usually ok with the horseshoe kind of earring and flatback I haven't slept with a whole hoop in tho
So the gun method is just driving a sharp object through your skin with blunt force and *splitting* it, not actually putting a round hole (think of hammering a nail in a board, but the board splits). Tattoo places use a hollow needle that punches an actual circle (more like drilling a hole in the board).
I did get my helix with a gun before I knew how bad it was. Realized it a few days later freaked out and took it out again. It was healing fine but I was just freaking out too much 😅 some day I want it done properly though! Wish I could go to lulu’s but it’s a bit far I live in Sweden 😂

Where I live (the Netherlands) it is actualy illigal to get any cartilage piercings done with a gun. But a while ago one of the biggest jewellery stores started to claim they are using a new safe way to do helix piercings and lobe piercings (it's just a diffirent kind of gun). I still don't understand how they are getting away with it!
I have a double helix on my left ear. Ive had if for almost 2 months. I got it april 30 2020. I need to change it to a shorter bar im just scared to plus when i change it i wanna change it to a hoop. And even though my healing process is doing amazing right now i know a hoop could mess that up so if i notice a change in the way the jewelry facing ill change it but if not then ill change it to a hoop when if fully healed, which by the way its healing i think it will be fully healed by 6 months
I already have a helix piercing and want to get more, hopefully soon. I got a ring 3-4 after piercing and it did make the piercing a bit crooked but that was caused because I didn't use a neck pillow for the whole time. Highly recommend using a neck pillow.
i watched this after i got mine 😭😭i got two helix piercings on both sides so 4 together and i got it with a gun… AND the person who did it to me was not a professional it was like one of those mall shops..
Shattered cartilage is a huge risk with shopping centre/chemist/home gun jobs, not to mention the sanitation side of things. I feel like the former is a risk that not many people know about unless they're seriously looking into it ahead of time. The studio I go to use single-use needles which go straight into a sharps bin, wash their hands with foot-pedal activated taps before using disposable gloves, sanitise the jewellery and the room prior while you sit in the waiting room (filling out all the paperwork that covers eating within the last 4 hrs, photo of your ID, no use of topical numbing agents, waver regarding aftercare being the customer's responsibility and not the studio's, etc.)...clean the room down afterwards.... cleanliness and safety is and always should be a huge priority. My piercers are APP approved, have done courses in bloodborne pathogens etc. and the studio has been open for 30 years. I'd never go anywhere else and I'll forever regret not knowing more about proper ways to get pierced when I had my first lobes done in 2003 with a gun. To this day they still gets crusties and will flare up if nickel goes anywhere near them.
ALSO, because swapping sides in your sleep is usually out of one's control (or even resting your ear on its side while sleeping on your back) invest in a doughnut pillow or travel pillow; something that allows you to still rest your head and sleep on the piercings' side but without putting any pressure on it. I got my daith done 5 months ago and while I have a tiny hypertrophic scar/piercing bump, it could be a lot worse. I'm also so used to the pillow that I'm probably still gonna use it well after both my ears are complete 😂

I have a question, im 13 and planning on getting a helix piercing (idk about the laws of where other people live, but where I live 13+ can get a helix piercing), but my dad called a piercer and she said that if I get a helix piercing now, by the time I turn 15 it will have curved/gotten uneven naturally, she said the cartlige will grow and make the piercing naturally uneven and it will be crooked by the time I turn 15 and that I would have to get my helix re-pierced, is this true? You guys seem like experts so I wanted to know, hopefully you guys, or someone else, will be able to answer.
this (very helpful) video has been up for a while but i have a question, i’ll be getting a helix piercing in a few weeks and regarding the “don’t sleep on your piercings” part, is it only for the healing process or it’s a general rule? i’m a side sleeper and i can definitely sleep on my back for a bit until healing period’s over, but i’m not sure if i can do it for a lifetime LMAO 😭 or maybe, once healed, i can remove my piercings before sleeping? hope someone answers my question aaa tysm!!
ilikeoldkpopmemesokay it shatters your cartilage and takes longer to heal, plus tattoo shops usually don’t charge you so much as claire’s does and they do a whole lot better of a job! A needle is the right option
On the 1st of this month i had my tragus done in my right ear and my two helix piercings in the left. Doesn't hurt near as much as i was expecting just a bit of pressure. And the helix only really hurt on the second piercing since my ear was tender. I have only just been able to lay on my side after 20 days but you still have to be careful of laying on it wrong. rare case
I just got mine done and it was done with a hoop... it's not very sore at all, tender to the touch but that's been the same for every piercing. I think it really just depends on how careful you are with the piercing, of course the type of jewelry can effect it but once you stay on top of things it really minimises the risks
@@leigha3083 it’s really rare though. Doesn’t matter how careful you are or how often you clean it. That’s why it’s not recommended.

i'm getting mv double helix today Ö so scared
i had two helix piercings done at the same time, both with a ring. she told me that because i bled a lot i’d likely swell a lot, so it was safer for me to go for a ring than have my swelling ‘swallow’ the ends of a stud. i’m no professional, but it worked out well for me. it was one of my least painful piercings and months later i haven’t had any issues with the rings besides my hair getting caught in them occasionally, so i’m always careful :)

Yes. But you could be uncomfortable still ya know if you're sleeping on a bunch of earrings that poke
So the gun method is just driving a sharp object through your skin with blunt force and *splitting* it, not actually putting a round hole (think of hammering a nail in a board, but the board splits). Tattoo places use a hollow needle that punches an actual circle (more like drilling a hole in the board).

I gave myself a helix piercing too! Not such a great idea for me, I have pretty low blood pressure, so I kept blacking out 😅
