@@Tr1Dylan training on sub-max speed doesn't improve your max speed, so even with the experience of hundreds of splits at 2"35, you're not assured to run a 2"05.

Make sure you’re doing endurance running and also practicing speed as well, the 800 meters is about endurance and speed.i’d recommend also practicing your 400m split times as part of your speed training at a really fast but also really controlled pace
800m is super sneaky I always see my xc guys who are new to it go out way slower than they should and finish with gas still in the tank. You gotta be aggressive from the gun or you'll be left with some regrets
Your coach is dead wrong!!! Even pace for best times. So 65 and 65 for a 2:10 800. In completion it's a little different especially in top level competition. Watch Dave Wottle in the '72 Olympic Final. It looks like he is accelerating during his 2nd 400m but he is going even pace!!
Definitely the best way to run an 800 is you run a positive split. Usually running like 4-5 seconds faster the first lap than the second and just holding on the last lap. So like 64 to 68/69.

Bro an 800 is definitely not a sprint you wanna keep a good stride pace throughout the race with a good 10 yard sprint of the bat then the last 200 meters is when you sprint the rear out or at least that’s what my coach always says
I just ran 2:04 last weekend. You want to focus on having a good first lap, pushing maybe a slight bit more than feels good. Then hang on through the second. Push down the back straight and sprint it in with 200m to go
When I was in track a couple months ago I remember running the 800 with the same time 2:35 during my meet and all I felt after was cold limbs in 90 degree Florida weather I’ll never forget that weird feeling

I’ll tell you what. It’s harder to run my short distance times from high school now. I had a 2:16 back then but I was really skinny and lightweight. My endurance is way better than it ever was now though. I never ran more than 4-6 miles at a time then, now being able to run 20-30 miles at once now

Stop giving people track tips. As someone who runs track as a freshman your tips are terrible. The 800m is a sprint not a jog. You can probably hit 2:15 if you do it correctly, which is sprint
First 200m is get out quick and stay in the pack, Next 200 look too pass those slowing down kind off sit behind someone,Next 200 the most mentally hard part push harder,Last 200 hawk someone and sprint
His tips are fine. I’m a 1:54 800 guy and everything he’s saying here is a little general, but valid. The 800 is not a “sprint”. It is physiologically impossible to sprint for 800m. It is a max effort jog without breaking form. And taking the first 200 out slower is not a bad idea because people tend to suicide pace the first 200 and lose time potential. This guy definitely could’ve gone faster though.
