This was great! I've learned the first variation you showed, as a Kimora. Nice to see how these movements are the same across domains, to tie it together. Also to understand the emphasis on joint pressure specifically. Thank you!
This is the armbar used by Masahiko Kimura to defeat Helio Gracie, who founded Gracie Jiujitsu. Brazilian Jiujitsu students now call this armbar the Kimura.
Omg that's so cool. True story, I used to swim when I was younger. Butterfly I assume helped keep my shoulders flexible to some extent. Then I joined a MMA gym and we were practicing the ude garami and my practice partner was so confused as to why it wasn't working on me he called our coach over to asses and even our coach became puzzled 😂
TY wonderful tutorial, could you demonstrate the standing variations of this as well ? I have found that it works quite well with BJJ Practicioners that are over confident as well as those using weapons, this is part of a Terrific Firearm /Knife disarming method that torques the elbow and shoulder joint, if applied quickly also maintains that they will not pick up a weapon again for a while
Dear Sensei, i would like to ask you if Jyujigatame & Ude Garami`s are allowed to use little Judoka`s (age 7-8). Since my little one is doing Judo & BJJ he loves using those in BJJ but i am afraid if for his age Judo does not allow to those Technics .... Many thanks for your time & super helpful videos.
Hi Dilnur, it varies from organisation to organisation. Under the WJF children are taught armlocks in their syllabus but are not allowed to do them in contest until they are 14 years old. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos. Many thanks.
Most likely the reason judo does not allow the use of locks Dilnur Aliev is that childrens bones are soft. Growth takes place from the end of the bone. The bones do not harden until ages 17 or 18 so doing joint locks on a child can damage growth future growth.

@@jamesh5112 This is called an "Americana". The lock you describe (the "Kimura") is also known as a Gyaku Ude Garami
I'm using these in BJJ every day. Ude-Garami is my favorite thing to do.
Thank you Sensei Sampson - A clear explanation, we are using a lot of your videos at our club Daigaku Judo Club Townsville (Inc) Australia.
