  • I, Oshan Man, received a revelation. Behold the Songs of Syx Starting Race/Species Tier List/Guide! In this video, one of your favourite Aussies compares the strengths and weaknesses of each of the six starting species in Songs of Syx's version 65 beta across the early, mid and late game.
    I generally post guides, battles and other content in Songs of Syx, which is a medieval fantasy colony sim and city-builder with grand strategy elements. You can transform a humble village into a city-state and/or form a vast empire. The combat is in an RTS style, similar to Total War. The game is currently in Early Access on Steam and has a FREE DEMO for you to try.

      Cheers mate!
      Unless I'm misunderstanding, you can play on easier settings with Titles on, you just can't unlock new ones with that save, if that makes sense. Basically, any title you already have unlocked can be used during even an easy++++ playthrough but in that playthrough, you won't be able to get the ones you haven't unlocked yet.

    Very insightful comparison. It would be interesting if you compared the Vargen from the extremely well-done Vargen mod. They seem really well balanced so far, kind of like a mix of humans and amevias who only like extremely cold climates. I'm not that familiar with the game yet though.

    Dwarfs are pretty good if you focus on mining production and trade (selling expensive ores). It's really helps when you need an army and you have a money to just recruit them. But sure, they're hard to manage and fulfill their needs, better to start with pigs and then make dwarfs colony to make money

    Its taken me a lot of tries to land on a good Garthimi strategy.
    Theyre harder than they seem for new players.
    But my latest game is looking good so far.
    I started with First of their Name. And immediately hired a small merc army to conquer several nearby free lands. Several engagements on the way, netted me over 1k leather armor, which i sold for pure profit.
    The first settlement i captured, i built a fishery and veggie farm. And that provided me with more food than i could handle, until my population was over 100.
    Now ive rushed for administration. I repeated the process and took a bunch more freelands near me, and it pissed off my neighbor. 2 wars with them got me a stockpile of falcatas, plate armor, shields and bows. And over 2k leather armor later on after all my excursions. I was flushed with over 800k denars, and started spreading the bugman message. All my neighbors became puppets. Half the remaining freelands became puppets. And after a couple hours, i got my admin building. I had been hovering at 13 days of food since my pop reached 175 or so, and now i could convert my other holdings to make food for me.
    So far im doing fuckin fantastic.
    Ive heard people say "youre garthimi. Go conquer" but as a new player, i just didnt know what that meant or how to go about doing it.
    My first game i did well on, i followed that advice and conquered all my neighbors. Then became a victim of success as i had no one to trade with anymore. So i opened trade with the larger kingdoms, and they ripped me off with prices of 12 denar for a plate armor (export) but 500 denar for plate armor to import.
    So i scrapped that game and kept trying over
    Now i think ive got the hang of it, more or less.

      Hey mate, I'm not too sure why you run into much trouble with them, I find that if you have them as fishermen in your capital early game, they tend to be rather content until you can get hunters and balticrawler breeders setup. As far as housing furniture goes, all they want is some clay and stone for their mountain homes, which is readily available in pretty much every capital map.
      I feel like going straight into the world map is kind of unnecessary that early, although the taxes and loot would indeed help a bunch. All of what I'm saying is in a v65 context btw.
      If you still need a hand, following the video "THE Guide YOU NEED to 100 Population | Songs of Syx Guide" might help, here's a link for your convenience: ua-cam.com/video/CF6liMi-phk/v-deo.html
      But either way, sounds like you've been having a good time learning the game, hope it continues to bring you joy :)

    • @alexanderrahl7034
      @alexanderrahl7034 2 місяці тому

      @OshanMan I think the 3rd successful new game i started, I found the advantage of fishermen. I had something like 5 max sized fisheries and over 200 fishermen in them. Trouble is, that's usually in ocean plots where that many fish are found. Rivers almost seem like "why bother?" With how spaced out they are
      Garthimi also love mountains, so finding a mountainous and coastal plot that has desired resources can be somewhat tricky.
      Personally I prefer mountainous maps with rivers running through them. Mostly for aesthetic reasons.
      But yes, absolutely, fishing provides a ton of food if you've got a good spot for it. And they're easy to upgrade so 1 worker can make make enough to feed 4.

    • @OshanMan
      @OshanMan  2 місяці тому

      @@alexanderrahl7034 In the world map generation screen, you can edit the terrain to your liking, meaning you can place mountains, rivers, forest or resource deposits however you wish :)

    • @alexanderrahl7034
      @alexanderrahl7034 2 місяці тому

      I gave that a shot and tried for a river between two mountains a-la Riverworld, but no luck lol.
      I got two mountains flanking a road that crossed a river and thought "eh, good enough".
      Built farms on the river, built most residential things in the mountain. But immediately hired mercs to war on the nearby freelands, that encompassed almost a whole continent.
      Captured about 5 lands and used one to send fish and meat to my bugmen, and that plus the grain sustained us, along with the almost 2k leather armors we looted from battles. Sold the armor, bought some slaves and resources and started expanding into the mountains. Eventually a neighbor got mad I had so much land while being so weak and declared on me. Unfortunately for them, I was too rich to fight my own battles and hired others to do that for me. Got a professional army's worth of stuff and they begged for peace. A couple years later, same song and dance, but this time I puppeted them.
      Then realized I could puppet all my neighbors, and did.
      Beelined it for admin buildings, and imported paper until i could make my own. Built up 3 realms to send me food and never worried about food again.
      Eventually I conquered half the continent of freelands, and 4 puppets declared on me.
      2 were dealt with practically on the same day, the 3rd saw that and shat their pants and begged for peace with a hefty offering. The last one...
      We killed their army, r*ped their livestock, ate their women and burned their city, then installed a new puppet to rule the ashes 🤣
      I then named my save "The Worst Thing to Ever Happen to the World" from then on out.
      Later I managed to build a dungeon, scaffolds and slave pens. _i did not_ intend for what happened next lol.
      I went to farm more free lands for leather armor to sell. Fought a couple dozen battles or so. Then checked on the building progress in my town, to find approximately 400 free workforce
      From all the slaves, you see.
      💡
      😮
      So pretty soon I had over 1.2k slaves 🤣 industry was booming, my economy was bangin, call my kingdom the fourth of July because we were popping off. I'm up to a million denars, and just got to work on my first standing army of 750 garthimi in plate armor and falcata. About 1.5k slaves, and 1.2k citizens with over 3k food production and 1.2k consumption.
      I'm doing the best I've ever done so far lol.
      Earlier a dondorian slave was bleeding on my freshly cleaned streets, and his lips accidentally made the sounds of "suggestions", so I read his biography and found out he was hanging out with a tilapi a lot lately. So i emancipated her, then had her arrested and executed in the fighting pits, her last words were "I think you could be a better ruler to your people, quite better in fact."
      And I've never been roasted like _that_ before 🤣🤣🤣
      Fuckin love this game.

    It might be good to talk about multi-ethnic cities. Like, what's a good mix and proportion of races per city. Because, obviously certain mixes are not going to work at all. And monolithic cities, like cities with ONLY Cretonians, aren't good either.

    • @OshanMan
      @OshanMan  11 днів тому

      Perhaps someday but the problem is, the most productive (if you equate productive to being good) cities, would pretty much have Humans, Dondorians and/or Slaves every time. So the recommendation pretty much just becomes "get slaves".

    Why are Amevias rated above Tilapi? Both past early game have no bonus and are just mid at everything else. Both have somewhat easy to fullfill needs, etc. Imho, they are vey similar races.

    • @OshanMan
      @OshanMan  2 місяці тому +1

      You are right that both are mid, which is why they don't take the top spots. Amevias enjoy living in mud houses, which have no resource cost. They have greater weight and force, which makes them much better in melee. They also eat considerably less (I think it's around 30% less hunger?). Those are just some of the reasons but please keep in mind that this is from a v65 perspective, so things have probably changed in the beta :)
