Hello Minette, thanks for this great instructional video. I have a question for you; When stacking buttercream tiers directly on top of each other, what is the best way to keep the frosting from sticking to the bottom of next tier? Thanks so much! I appreciate all your videos. Barbara
hi loved the video, I'm new to the cake industry worked with two tier cakes but have a three tier coming up. Do you previously put the center holes in the smaller tiered cake boards or literally knock the center dowell with the hammer will be using the thin cake board from local cake decorating shop X
Thank you Rebecca! I don't put holes in prior to placing the center dowel. Works best if the hole is made when the dowel is hammered in. Thanks for watching!
Loved this video!!! Hello from Albany Ga! I have a question: Would this method be sufficient if I am stacking 3 tiers (8, 10 and 12 inches) on top of a 14 inch dummy cake? Thanks so much for sharing!
Good morning. I just discovered your videos, and I subscribed to your channel. Thank you so much for your wonderfully clear and comprehensive instruction. When you are stacking layers covered with buttercream, do you suggest having the upper tiers on cake boards or not?
I am doing a 3 tiered cake the exact sizes in this video except using Italian Meringue Buttercream.. Should the cake be cold from refrigerator right before putting in the "Center Dowel" or was your fondant cake at room temperature? Doing a cake this weekend and it's my first wedding cake so would appreciate any help.
savannahcustomcakes hi I have a cake order for 27 people and its a 2 tier cake can you please tell me which size cake pans I have to use for 1 st layer and for 2 nd layer and can I have your email address please
Minette, thanks for the video. Where do you get your plastic dowels? Are you still teaching in your bakery? I would love to drive down and take some fondant classes. I've been decorating for a long time but just started working with fondant and gum paste in the last few years. Wish I had learned sooner. Beth www.bethncompany.com
Beth Shirk Hi Beth! I get the plastic dowels from CK Products...it is a wholesaler but I am sure you can find them at most any cake decorating store. I have moved to a small studio on our property and hold private or semi private lessons on a regular basis. Let me know if you would like more information. I would be happy to have you! Never too late. Thanks for watching!!!!
Hi Minette, yes Please send me info on lessons. I will check CK products. I have a wholesale account with them also. Thanks a bunch and looking forward to some lessons. Please email the info to beth@bethncompany.com.

Ellen Dow yes all cakes should be on their own board. It keeps them from sinking into the lower tier.
Hi Ellen! Yes each cake should sit on it's own board.
Hello.. are these cakes covered in fondant? If so, were they cold when stacking?
I think this is a dummy cake

Hi Pam, good luck on wedding cake! I stack the cakes when they are cold so yes, the center dowel is placed into the cold cake. Hope this helps.

Do you align the dowels all the way up?
May I ask why do you use both puning shears and pvc cutters? Are the both needed or could I just use one of them?
