It helps to see how you used the Corion as a mold plus the amount of pressure used for the clamps and space in of clamps, i had considered Tyvek lining as skin to reduce sticking to mold or silicon spray
Hi Darren, I can’t recall there being an issue with the release. As mentioned in other replies, the variable that we could not control is the expansion of the foam. Or at least distributing the liquid foam evenly in a timely manner. Moulds could be milled from aluminium but that will only slow the closing process due to the weight of them. With diligence, one may find a really slow curing foam to allow an even distribution of the liquid. We even considered standing the closed moulds on the leading edge to “pool” the liquid and let it expand vertically toward the trailing edge. Bottom line ... we gave up when the moulds cracked.
Hi. What density of PU foam is strong enough for making agricultural drone propeller cores. If you need more info please let me know. Or, if you could recommend other light, strong , and cheap materials for making propeller cores…? Thank you.
Hi, there was no issue with the foam curing. The foam used in this vid was a 2-part mix so it cures without moisture. The main problem was distribution consistency. The final attempt that cracked the wing mould was still an incomplete and unusable core. There was enough expansion to break the mould in one area yet voids in another ... despite our best efforts to spread it evenly given the few seconds working time to get the mould closed.

@@yeahitworks Cool vid, thanks for sharing it. Personally, I wouldn't want any vent holes in my wing moulds. Perhaps an option might be to make a separate mould just for casting the foam core? What we were trying to achieve in the video was to wet skins into the mould, pour the foam and close the mould in one process. Maybe the vent holes could be at the wing tips and 3D printed caps could finish the wing at the vent holes once the wing has been released from the mould. Hmmmm ... I'll ponder that some more.
Miguel Armillas .... the point was to find a quick method of making a foam core wing without having use a hot wire system. For example, put fiberglass in the mould, pour in the liquid then close the mould. We wanted to produce a wing in one quick process. Sadly, it didn’t work. I posted the video anyway to demonstrate that it is harder than it might appear.

i wondering what material is the mold, its looks fragile and brittle and why did you dosen't use mold release like wax or something?
Any updates on this? I think the liquid foam needs to react with moisture to cure. Maybe moisten the mold first?

good experiment but how is the final product?
Bosa Marin ... we considered pu foam in the molds to be too difficult to get an easy and consistent result.
