As an addition to these issues, a lot of B47 engines have suffered turbo failures due to ice forming in the intake pipes and getting sucked into the turbo. This is only a problem in colder climates. Some have tried to solve the issue by fitting an N47 intake pipe into their B47, which doesn't have as many places where ice can form.
that is correct, in many cases they replaced turbos and the pipes under warranty, they even a updated that pipe to a newer version-which should fix the problem, however if that helped I have no idea
Its not the intake that is freezing, i just had to replace my crankcase ventilation hose or the PCV hose and i saw some weird sensor on it. After some investigation i saw that it was actually a heating element on the PCV hose so ice was forming there and turbo was sucking the ice and destroy itself. I have never seen an engine turbo fail from fckin ice 😂😂 only bmw have these weird problems.
My f30 320d ed 2014 already has 340k km, only clutch, egr recall, intake manifold cleaning and valve cover gasked was changed. No chain rattle, still sturdy when i checked while fixing VC gasket. I perform 15k km oil changes - oil and filters from official bmw dealer (bmw ones) since 200k km. Maybe a turbo a bit whiney when its cold
I have a BMW F11 520d xDrive with the B47 engine. I replaced the timing chain preventively at around 230.000km , it was still good, and replaced the EGR cooler at the BMW dealership for free as a part lf the recall. The car is doing great, done about 30.000km with it, mostly highway (it is a big car) and with regular maintenance (10.000km) it should be going strong. If you take care of your car, it will take care of you.
Where do you live? And how much did it cost to replace the timing chain? I am thinking to buy a 200.000 km on X5 with the n57 as they sell cheap compared to the ones with the b57 engine. Plus i like more the previous gen
@@emiljanodervishllari3924I live in Serbia, and it was about 1000€ to replace the chain with the hands, but with the OEM chain, tensioners and everything else that goes. X5 is a great car, but things to replace are more expensive compared to a 5 series wagon.
I actually replaced my cooler at the stealership for free 2 months ago, and it hasn't lost coolant since then, but up to until then it was losing around 0.1l every month... f30 318d lci
Maybe the fuel pump fails more often in Eastern Europe not because of the fuel quality but because a lot of them are broke and only have 3 litres of fuel in the fuel tank at any moment. This creates more chances of air bubbles being sucked into the fuel pump while the car is moving and the fuel is slushing around the bottom of the fuel tank and this “semi dry running” of the pump is what makes it fail prematurely. How about that my friend?😉
This could actually be true. It is always recommended that the tank is at least half full most of the time to keep the pump cool. It is a common problem in Toyota Corolla. Fuel pump failing on cars that have the fuel level low most of the time
Wow, thanks so much for this information. Your videos are always detailed, informative and produced to a very high standard. Any chance that you can make a used car buying guide for first time car buyers? I am wondering if there are some car brands and models you would recommend to buy used
Hey man you are a wonder! Can I share your videos by translating them into Turkish language, you are very informative, even if your answer is no, thank you, great content. 👏
ohhh boy I have been waiting for this! I am more waiting for Volvo 5 cylinder engines in P3 platform. Ideally the diesel 136kw all the way to 158kw and of course petrol T6 6cylinder engine
@@christosskourides9443 Probably something like Volvo V40 in that case. It is basically a more luxury version of a Ford Focus. You can't realy ask for reliability *and* luxury at the same time. If you want the most reliable car, get one with a simple, port injected, naturaly aspirated, petrol engine in it.

Been driving the N57 engine since 3 years and added 80k km, no problems so far

N57 Timing Chain issues could be a sign of a bad oilpump which will later destroy the bearings. Idle Oilpressure should be above 1.1 bar.
