This video has better quality than some GN ftom the 90s or early 2000 😭🤣
because it wasn't numerical images, no pixels yet.
fr i swear to god footage from the 60s always seems better than 90s
...this is not television; this is film
turns out film doesn't degrade like videotape
I have just sed the same to my wife b4 i looked at the comments
Kept expecting to see Michael Caine in the crowd wearing a cravat and with a bird on each arm .
I have the favourite… Freddie’s exercise saddle
Good quality film for those days .
Great quality film .
I love the old grandnational the camera man was always on the leader
Great memories - but diabolical choice of music!!!
original 60's groovy soundtrack. these were news items shown at the cinema before the main film.
Carry On film backing music
Fantastic 😊
This was the first Grand National that I remember watching - I was 5yo.
.....and what a great introduction to the race. Thrills and spills galore with Bechers Brook the formidable challenge living up to its old reputation (unlike today)
This was also the first Grand National I remember watching - I was 7 years old - and then every year I watched the race with my Dad, until he passed away in 1994. Emotional memories.
At the canal 2nd time round commentator says ' for jockey (Johnny) Lehane keeping still while they all go over , a miraculous escape from serious injury ' I don't think the poor fella had a choice ,he was knocked clean out and it was a miracle he wasn't killed . Brave men and horses. Amazing quality of film.
They special jacket now don't they ? So they won't get their torso crushed
Dig that crazy music Daddy Oh!
Why did they have background music in those days?
When the Nationl was the Nationl
Is this music from The Wacky Races?
He done it!!
Its Great race The best.
If I remember right there was a big gamble on Freddie to win
It's Any second now, he ran last 2years
Outstanding racing happy horses, doing what they do best.
Music from the man from uncle
I was 6 years old and picked out Jay Trump in the family sweep to win.
Great quality but that silly music takes away from the importance of the occasion 😔
Rondetto, so unlucky not to be a National winner
Michael scudarmore wow I only remember Peter
I know many people will say AP McCoy is the greatest jump jockey ever, but for me it will always be Peter Scudamore. When he was at his peak for David Nicholson and Martin Pipe he more than once got over 200 winners. And those were the days when there were no Sunday meetings and jockeys didn't fly around the country to 2 meetings a day.
Used to be a feat just to get around. Now you have 7 and 8yo winning it every year because owners more willing to risk it. The race is worth more than the Gold Cup, it's made the entire sport of NH racing a bit farcical. May as well go for the national as a novice and then gold cup following year. Doubt we'll ever see a horse older than 10yo ever win the race again.
The emphasis on speed is the reason why older horses won't stand a chance anymore. They just won't be kept in training anymore. This is going to revolutionize breeding.
If that was Beecher's Brook before it was modified, what the Christ was it like before 🤯 In 2022 it is now much smaller, covered brook and the nothing like that drop. And it's levelled off on the landing too. They've destroyed the course/race.
absolutely ..its a joke race for tv and bookies now
Damien Kearns. In 1961 they changed the style of the fences from upright to sloping, which makes it easier for horses to jump. The biggest fence was the Chair. Stands 5ft 2inches.
Who likes that overdone lift music?
It's called making it safer for horses and jockeys, not destroying the race.
@@scoutpups Hasn't made it one bit safer for horses or jockeys armchair genius. Horse's still fall and get killed, another one in 2022. The facts don't back it up. The horse's have gotten as small as the jumps have gotten smaller, Tiger Roll for example. It used to be a race for horses 17h+.
I Think the water jump is gone.
No there is still 1
FEI ECONOMY
Proper race. Proper fences. Unlike the modern national which is a poor imitation.
it's more important that it's safer than what you claim is 'proper' for your viewing pleasure
@@elastronaute1198 It's still very dangerous. There were horse fatalities in the 2022 National.
@@johncraske There are also horse fatalities in horses running around on their own. It's irrelevant. Animals die. It's their upkeep we want to keep a handle on. We're not going to prevent animals dying. And shouldn't want to. This is where the argument about racing being 'cruel' gets skewed in my opinion. If you want to see real 'cruelty' look at the commercial dairy or meat industry. Racing is not a problem.
47 runners and no fatalities. bigger horses on average, more bone in the leg. proper hunter chasers and none of the dished arab show pony head shape that there is now.
Horse racing is animal abuse.
Rich man's sport, they don't care about the animals because of it, all about greed and making money, this year 3 horses died and I don't believe people think it's acceptable, ever year deaths .sick people, too many horses all at once, hope more humans get trampled! 😡
3 horses didn't die in this year's race, sadly Hill Sixteen did and his trainer has laid the blame firmly at the feet of the activists who delayed the race causing all the horses to get upset. He had never fallen before they caused the trouble. As for deaths every year that's again false. There have been numerous alterations made to the course in recent years and between 2013 to 2018 inclusive there were no fatalities. NH isn't a rich man's sport. Yes there are some rich owners such as JP McManus and Rich Ricci but there are hundreds of syndicates for small money and they definitely don't go into for money. A very, very small percentage of owners will ever make a return on NH racing, they would have more chance spending it all on lottery tickets. As for the views of people, I would've thought the fact activists had to be rescued by police from Liverpudlians who live near the track would show what ordinary folk think of them.
@@RichardKeogh26Three horses did die this year you liar.
Horses were real horses back then. Got straight back up not like the horses you get today!
Horse racing is animal abuse.
D J Trump
