At Bobbygfl- for surging like that, its likely a fuel suction leak... At Jason Kennedy same for you with the milky fuel- that's air getting into the fuel pump and when the diaphram mixes the oil with the fuel which has air bubbles it foams up.
You both should splice a piece of clear tubing between the fuel fitting entering the engine and your bulb which goes to the fuel tank to see if there are air bubbles being sucked up.
if so trace your fuel lines all the way back checking for air leaks.
As for warped carb bowls and vapor caps, often times you can take a piece of fine sand paper, place it on a flat piece of glass and then place the carb cap on top and slowly move it back and forth to sand it flat, don't over do it or you'll take away too much material making the matting surface too thin and it can crack when you tighten down the screws.
I've had pretty much had all the same issues, which I account it to Normal age, ethanol fuel deteriorating seals, hoses, jets and such..
These Johnson 60 degree motors are work horses, I have a 1999 on my boat with countless hours on it and the thing runs like a stallion.
Here is a good read for all owners of these Johnson Evenrude VRO style engines. It helped me find the solutions to my problems:
    continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/VRO.html
It has a Nice diagram explaining all the working parts of the VRO pump system.
    Hope that helps you all.

Just got a 91 150 Fast strike. The kid I got it from has removed the whole pump and vro assembly so he could premix. Hope I have all the parts! I guess that whole assembly in the middle is the fuel pump and vro together? I’ll be ordering an official omc service manual at some point.

So i have had my carbs cleaned. new fuel pump. New primer ball . And so on .. i can not get to half throttle before it starts to bogg down.. i had just noticed that there is a light milky fluid coming from the carbs. Im assuming there is water getting in with the gas . New gas with new tank was run though and still same issue. What could be causing water to mix with gas .. 1998 evinrude 115hp intruder v4

Will this problem not let your boat run? Mine is leaking there also but not as bad and it will not run more than 4 seconds

Man my 175hp Johnson has been sitting for 6yrs and I just ordered over $1,300 in parts and was hoping I could find a way to eliminate all this octopus 🐙 mess and put like an electric pump or oldschool pulse pumps because I can’t find the same parts like the vapor chamber and stuff there discontinued, any tips on here?

Question for you, I have the same motor. Having a loosing rpm surging issue at full throttle. Idle to cruising no problem. Hole shot no problem. Here’s the super weird thing if the boat is on choppy water or navigating boat wake it maintains maximum RPM. If the boat is on calm water and full throttle it begins losing RPM and then gaining RPM losing RPM then gaining RPM and it just repeats. This occurs within about 10 seconds of full throttle in calm water. Pull back the throttle slightly to a cruising RPM and it performs fine. List of things already replaced: fuel vapor housing gasket, all fuel line fuel bulb and anti-siphon valve. Filter Water separator and water separator housing. Rebuilt the carburetors. After all that we moved on to a potential electrical problem. Started motor disconnected main Canon plug and ran motor eliminating any ignition issue boat side. Replaced Power pack and optical sensor. Waiting on coil and plug wires (on order). Should arrive this week at which point I will replace. Replaced plugs. That’s everything we’ve done so far. Have you ever seen this and do you have any idea what it could be? Many thanks!

    • @bobbygfl

@@sneakerkings1 hi. Yes. In the bottom of the plastic bowl is the high speed jet. Evidently the last time I rebuilt the carb when I installed the jet I must’ve cross threaded it producing a tiny little curly piece of plastic that extended near the front of the jet. Bowl side if you know what I mean. Anyway over the years that little piece of plastic became weaker and weaker. Finally it became weak enough where under full throttle it would fold over the whole restricting fuel. I replaced the bowls and this is when I saw the little piece of plastic fall out. I literally replaced everything on his motor and that was the problem LOL. I’m glad I did because now everything is new in the motor runs better than it has in years but probably could’ve saved two grand!

I am also having the same problem. It started last year, around the time I had the vapor chamber replaced, although I don't know if it's related. It recently got worse after hitting bottom like an idiot. I changed the prop last week and it's better but similar to last year. When testing it out, I noticed when driving along the beach in one direction, it seemed fine but when I was going in the opposite direction, the engine would rev and I'd lose power. I repeated over and over and oddly enough, it continued to do the same thing. I believe it's a cavitation issue caused by my fish finder. It snapped off 1-2 years ago and I epoxied it back together and I think it's causing turbulence or air bubbles in the water. When I turn port side, the problem seems to go away, so I am thinking it's lifting the position of the transducer. I could be way wrong here and maybe like Sneakerkings, there is a little piece of plastic sticking out, although no one should have touched my carbs.
ps. I've noticed the issue more so when there is more weight in the boat.
pps. there was a little damage to my skeg, so I filed it down so there were no imperfections, but I do believe it has a slight bend from hitting ground, so i will probably cut it off and replace it with a metal one at some point.

When cutting zip ties don't try to cut it where the hose is, just cut the big square block, it will come right off and no damage to the rubber hose

I had fuel delivery issues for a while on my 2004 Johnson 90hp 2-stroke
A few years back I had the VRO removed and went to premixing in my inboard tank
This year I couldn't get the motor to stay running after pumping the squeeze ball
It would start right up and run until the carb bowls emptied then stall
Long story short , after trying several fuel pumps, I removed the entire VST and made my own pump and primer system
Motor now runs better than ever
The VST tank and pump combo is prone to air leakage I tried rebuilding everything and still had issues
    Simple is more efficient

I installed a standard fuel pump with a double TEE fitting
Attached the Pump to the fuel rails and the primer assembly through the T fittings
Capped off 2 lines from the Oiler
Motor running better than new, no stall issues at the dock or idling in the water
