Hello from the Dark Future Year of 2020! It's me, the person who made this video! First of all, sorry about the audio quality and delivery and editing and...everything. I extremely Did Not Know what I was doing when I made this video, even more so than I currently Do Not Know what I am doing. Secondly, I just want to say that I have changed *considerably* as a person since I made this video, and while I stand by a lot of what I said here, there is something I want to make clear. While I do still believe that Mass Effect Andromeda is attempting to criticise colonialism through it's framing of the factions within the game, I also think that it revels too uncritically in the aesthetics of colonialism, and the way it portrays the people of the Initiative is totally at odds with the themes the latter parts of the story are attempting to explore. As much as the Andromeda Initiative is indeed a refugee ark, most of the characters involved in it are unaware of that and are unrepentant colonizers who relish the act of planting a flag on a world that isn't theirs and saying "this is mine". The game tries to have its cake and eat it too in this regard, and it's pretty sickening. If you hate this game because of this, I don't blame you at all. I hate that part of it too, honestly. All that being said, I do still like Mass Effect Andromeda. I genuinely do respect what it's *trying* to say beneath all this. Unfortunately, we live in a society shaped by colonialism, and too often the language and aesthetics of it drip into our words without us realizing it. Colonialism, as a concept, has well and truly colonized our minds. While Andromeda is an egregious example of a game embracing much of that ideology, it is hard to think of media that doesn't, in some way. Any game where you're taking over outposts or exploring a world to loot and raid is embracing the spirit of colonialism, from Skyrim and Diablo to Breath of the Wild and Pikmin. That doesn't make these games inherently bad, it's just the way our society does things, and it sucks, but it would take a greater paradigm shift in our global status quo than I can individually muster to change that (which is not to say that we should not all do what we can to help make that change happen hint hint blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/ ). By that same token, I don't think Andromeda is bad. Despite everything, I do still think it is (sigh) "Secretly Good". But I think it would be remiss of me to let my past self's naive reading of the story go unchallenged, especially when I no longer fully agree with it. It's important to always engage critically with art and recognize the aspects of it that falter, *especially* when it's art that you love. I've considered taking this video down many times because of my change in opinion and also because I think the presentation and delivery don't represent the person I am now in a lot of ways, but ultimately I think the video still resonates with enough people that I think it should remain accessible, at least right now. But I didn't want to just leave it up without comment. Thank you for reading this!! It genuinely means a lot to me, as my relationship with this video has become increasingly fraught over the years. If you did enjoy this video, please do check out my other ones, as they are all MUCH better than this one! Some of them are even GOOD. I know, I know, sounds ludicrous, but it's true!
I just downloaded Andromeda and it's the first ME game I ever played. I really do like the game and agree with everything you just commented on. I still think this is a great introduction to the series. I dont plan on playing the older versions though.
C-KRET the original mass effect series are worth a play through choices you make carry over from the first one through the 3rd. I liked andromeda to an extent but honestly prefer the originals better storyline and you get the actual story rather than a side story.
The issues regarding colonialism don't have much impact in this game. Yes as the protagonist you are leading a colonial force into a new galaxy and taking over native planets that have already been claimed. However Andromeda presents the story as being the leader of a colonial force using ancient technology to preserve and use ancient tech to better Angara and Milky Way species futures against the genocidal Kett. Regardless of the Milky Way species intended goals, they are refugees of the reaper war whether they know it or not. The Kett are monsters who absorb cultures into themselves not to preserve them but to use them which makes them fundamentally different from the reapers. The Reapers are not evil they simply preserve species before they are made extinct by synthetic creations. The Kett use evolution to better their own species by brutal colonization. The entire story is proving that although you are a colonialist you aren't there to erase a culture but rather use its history to create a better galaxy for everyone. The Andromeda Initiative has a much bigger role to play in the universe than a simple racist colonialism. The Kett are horrible but their thrall races can contribute much to the understanding of the Milky Way species.
The quest that permanently convinced me of Andromeda's message was called "The little things that matter", a very long and heartfelt essay on hope and legacy, similar to the Shepard/Ryder Sr. parallel. And yes, I cried hard when the first human child born in Andromeda was named after Anderson. This game has a very needed and passionate message on hope and how it drives us.
@@emarinelli part of the problem with ME as a whole came from the development side. Casey Hudson was in charge and under his leadership there were a lot of decisions made that hurt the franchise.
@@emarinelli Casey Hudson was one of the main reasons that Mass Effect 3 ended the way it did. So if you weren't a huge fan of ME3's last 15 minutes, then you might consider him to be a memorable antagonist, lol. :)
So much of the andromeda hate comes from the early bugs that aren’t even there anymore. This game is genuinely good, and it sucks that most people never even gave it a chance.
DAWGZofWAR in did back in the day. Even paid full price for the last two. Second was masterpiece and the third was great except for the trash ending. We all remember the story there. For the 1/10 I paid for this one va full price for the 2/3 of the original trilogy ($50+) I definitely feel like I got my money’s worth. Would I be pissed it I bought it at launch and paid full price with high expectations... yes. But I didn’t. Based upon the wrap this game had I was pleasantly surprised and it delivered on a good experience for a bargain price.
@@dawgzofwar6674 I've finished ME1 and am currently about a third of the way through ME2 (inspired to play the original trilogy after completing Andromeda) and I can honestly say that while I'm enjoying the games they haven't grabbed me as much as Andromeda did! ME1 has not dated well and the voice acting is stiff and clanky. ME2 is better but seems a tad linear compared to the first game and so far I haven't really 'bonded' with any characters. I'm looking forward to the third game but I think the original Mass Effect trilogy is very much a product of its time and is not as impressive to someone playing it in 2019 as it would have seemed around 2010. Andromedas weak point was the tired 'alien race wanting to assimilate all other races' story line. Its a shame the game wont be getting any DLC to wrap up its loose ends but since I bought it for just $7 I cant really complain!
Having been a gamer for over 30 years I have the original Mass Effect trilogy on my top 10 list of all time favorites. And guess what. Andromeda is there too. I absolutely love this game. As with the original three I have replayed it several times and will replay it many more. I just don't get all the hate.
WIAAR Right?,many people just hate this game without even try this game which piss me off.i love this game and my only complaint is the facial animation of course😆
butterpastor No, it’s not awful. No man’s sky is awful, even with the updates. Destiny is awful, was easily repairable but Bungie refused, Destiny 2 is fraud. Anthem is awful, even with Destiny as an example of how not to do it and Fallout 76 is beyond awful. Try actually playing a really bad game before you run off at the mouth. All the glitches in Andromeda were fixed fairly quickly and if you are soooo worried about bad dialogue, you wouldn’t play computer games at all, would you? They all have shit dialogue.
Jake Valent: I actually played this game a year after it came out when it got a bunch of bad press, but I always say people can be too hard on a game sometimes. which in some cases I can see, the graphics and some of the character designs especially both Ryders didn't look like they were finished. but they did eventually patch it up. it's a better game than some people give it credit for. that being said, there are things they could've did better on, but for the most part I enjoyed it's pretty good to me.
Honestly this deserves more views, you're one of the few that don't reject something based on what others think and make conclusions by yourself, you give us your opinion about the game and reinforce it with facts and not just like "The old games were better" excuse, used for many(not all) the people arguing about it, I understand the game isn't for everyone though I bought this game like a year ago but it's still sealed, maybe because the bad things I heard about it, I'll give it a try now that I have seen this well made critic
Daniel Morales Salais i'd like to think even though he hasnt responded to you that thats exactly what he set out to do with this extremely well put together and thought out piece. I hope you enjoy it as much as some of us genuinely do. I'd like to hear your thoughts here again someday when youve given it a shot.
U rly should its rhe best game in the series imo story is meh but so was the story in the last 2 entries other then that they combined and improbed the best oarts of the series
It felt like the truest design sequel to the first game. ME1 felt like your stepping into a massive open universe and then the sequels everything felt so small, less frontier and more tamed. Andromeda opened the aperture again for the unknown.
as a newcomer to this series i have to say andromeda is what got me to play the original games and i feel like people who hate on it don't understand that the games isn't about destroying its legacy but to get others into this wonderful universe and for that i will always be grateful to this game
TraceSaint if you cancel out a good chunk of the previous lore, the basic logic of what would probably happen if things really happened in that world, the terrible dialogue and characters, the crap villian and protagonist, the non interesting story, then yea it could have been maybe possibly a good game.
Thank you for this. When it first came out, I bought it right away and loved it, then was frustrated with the negative response - so many just said "it's not really Mass Effect" or nitpicked on the animations. Me, I actually identified more with my scientist/explorer Sara Ryder than I did with badass/soldier Shepard. Yeah, some of the writing could have been better, but it was a great start.
Why are you mad people don’t agree with you? And how is it a nitpick to talk about the facial animations when that’s a huge part when looking at the game.
On point video - Andromeda was the first Mass Effect game I have ever played, gotta say it was way more impressive than people stated online, currently on my 3rd play through in a row... Yes it has its flaws BUT they need to make the rest of the trilogy!
Frank Rivers They’re judging the game for what it is, not what the original developers made. The game is good with the work that was done on it, just that they need to up the next one. Andromeda was ok for a new team doing a start of a new series, if it was say the old team the pushed this out then that’d be so much worse. I hope they continue with it and make a great series.
@@someanimelover8602 I'll say as a new game its OK THE DIALOGUE is still trash but the combat, world design and music is great. The story is awful and there are so many just idiotic choices in the story (like development-wise) The main problem with this game is it should have had what the original trilogy had. An immersive, huge world of wonder. MEA was even more familiar than the first game, in a whole new galaxy and its still had the most basic boring story of all time. a better story could simply be trying to find clues to decipher the alien language before all out war breaks loose. Or realizing the worlds were colonized and you have the choice of destroying a developing alien race or working beside it. or hell Just exploration but focus on beast and not soldiers.
keepiticy Choosing whether to destroy an alien race or not is too early in the series for that, especially a race that’d be tied in closely with the game. If you chose to eradicate the Angara or somehow all the Kett even in their home system, what would be left for the next game? You’d make the choice pointless as they’d not be able to have a significant role in another game because the hole left behind is too much if they were instead eradicated. The first game shouldn’t have too many ways to kill off the story, because that’d make continuations to big and too different for the team to make. There was a lot of stupid things in the game, I do wish there was more to the translator at the start than “I connected to this computer somehow and now I know how to access everything and talk to multiple new races”. The was a bit bullshit. I just feel the game is fine as a stepping stone but ubisoft needs to up their game to make it stick. None of that prioritising Anthem BS. Seriously why did they prioritise a new title that was failing, over an existing series that has already proven to care more for the game than the company. They should have known after needing to redo the end of ME3 not to fuck it up.
@@PyramidHACK I MF have. ME1 twice, deep into ME2 right now. I played MEA Andromeda first. And MEA is like a month with a Europpass and a decent budget to discover Europe, ME2 especially is alike a 5 day guided bus trip that stops at all the worst bars on Europe. But I know.. the cool gamers are all sure ME2 is the best baaaa baaaa baaaa
Thank you for this video! I've always felt like the odd one out when I so massively enjoyed Mass Effect Andromeda (especially, when most of the bugs people tend to highlight were fixed by the time I bought and played the game). Very good analysis, insightful and informative. Cheers dude! :D
This video made me almost cry when he said he had a hollow feeling when it was discontinued cause I felt the same way. I loved this game for its characters, It’s combat and the humanity that it presented fully in each character. I know it’s been a while since this video was uploaded but now I’m gonna go and play yet ANOTHER playthrough and pretend people didn’t ruin such a great game for face animations and conversations that could have been fixed.
My biggest problem is how half assed the game seems. Every non human spieces sharing the same models and textures + terrible facial animations and copy/paste quests made the feel super generic to me.
I actually think the scanning adds to the exploration made me feel like I was actually looking for stuff on the planets wish it would’ve been used more in the vaults the whole alien world vibe was great.
The final boss wasn’t too bad either. It reminded me of the Omega dlc from ME3 which was super fun. However I don’t think the Archon and his goons were the true evil. He was a rogue obsessed character who went against his own superiors orders to become a big bad guy. I feel like the true kett leadership has far darker and sinister motivations and the Jaardan and their machines have a more complex history than is shown. Hopefully we get a sequel to answer the questions we have.
Dom M It reminded me of ME 2 final boss, while the driving section reminded me of the end of Halo 3 (I think), just that you could take your time and I don’t think it was timed or could actually get you killed which was a shame.
I loved the combat and the worlds looked great i never had a problem with the game as far as glitches and dlc never should've been scrapped there's alot of potential here and dlc could've made andromeda great
I managed to make a female Ryder that actually looked human, it is possible. There are problems with the game and they need fixed in a sequel. The game is an alright step for a new story and new team imo, just that it needs to be done great from this point on.
Finally a video from someone who isn't an indoctrinated husk of a man. I also played the game despite all the hate it got and really loved it, I think people just like hating on stuff.
@@ComaradComisar "my face is tired" amazing writing 10/10, I also like how Krogans biologically developed out of the genophage while in Cryo, amazing writing 10/10, great game, no plotholes.
@@kylio95 They didn't cure the genophage... they used the 600 year journey to enhance upon krogan natural mutations against it, improving their genophage viability by just 4%. You would know that if you actually played the game. Anything else you want to cry about? Maybe another 4 word sentence in a 70+ hour long game? I'm here if you need a shoulder.
FINALLY. THANK YOU!!!! Also I have to mention that the end credits song Under Stars introduced me to what is now one of my favorite music artists of all time, Aurora. I even got my sister hooked on her music and that would never have happened without Andromeda.
Great video, I totally agree that this game is underrated. It's a shame it really didn't receive proper post-launch support and that EA just decided to pull the plug on it entirely. This game could have been elevated from a 6-7 out of 10 to an 8-9 out of 10 with a couple solid DLCs and a few substantial patches. Instead they patched it up to 1.10 and then abandoned it. Shame.
Still makes me sad that the internet hate train rolled over this game so badly. It’s not perfect but this game had so many great ideas and brought Mass Effect in interesting new directions. Without the weird over the top reaction to the strange facial animations, the franchise could have grown and redefined itself into something even greater with sequels. Such a shame.
Right! The fact that a lot of people bitched and moan about the default characters looks really irked me, like. Dude. At least we have the option to create your own character. It's not that hard and honestly, if the default character sucked that much, creating a character from your imagination would be a million times better. It's not like creation sucks, it's pretty solid and I created a lot of good looking characters from it.
Its the best game in the franchise so far sadly we wont get another mass effect due to internet fake gamers who rather watch reviews instead of playing games
A very well presented critique. The thing is that people expect perfection these days and seem to have a meltdown over issues which are fixable. As an older gamer i marvel at what games offer now: remember when open world didn’t exist? Now people say the exploration gameplay loop is boring. The more realistic games become, the more like real life they become and boredom is part of that lol. Shooting aliens in the face isn’t tho. Nor is most of what is offered in this game. Appreciate what you have got.
From all those back in the Milky Way, I'm home, and though I've always had a family worth dying for, Now I have a family worth living for. (P.S.If they did release a sequal, I'd preorder it, so long as it continues with MY team on MY Tempest!)
How did you like it? I'm playing it now. Besides wishing i could shoot Liam in the face the game isn't as bad as it was made out to be. There is still a lot of bugs and cringey as fuck dialogue but I'm having fun playing it. The combat is definitely the best out of the 4.
Hello! So here is my take: thanks to Legendary Edition, I just played through the original trilogy for the first time ever (loved it all to pieces, especially the Citadel DLC mission + party). I was so enamored with the gameplay and the lore/world that I immediately jumped into ME: A, knowing that it was entirely different and not nearly as well-received as the original trilogy, but otherwise not knowing much about what to expect... I have been shocked from the opening scenes until the end because now my opinion is now squarely that ME: A is "Openly Good, and Secretly the Actual Best Mass Effect Game"
I just finished the main story .. and I loved it , I also love how you can continue to play the game after the main story and go back and do all the other missions , you skipped along the way etc.. awesome stuff and wins my award for best looking game of all time!! The lighting in this game is incredible, as is the sound / music / FX
Thank god someone who can make up his own unbiased opinion ... While the game was too buggy at launch , the amount of hate it got is absurd .. thank you sir for trying at least to show the games merits
People didn't hate it just because some buggy animations, people hated it because it was poorly written, poorly voice acted, full of plot holes and just overall not a very good game. ME games are heavily character and story driven and when the characters and story sucks, people dont like it.
Weird thing for me is that I didn't have any of the weird animation glitches that people were talking about so I was thoroughly confused when people were complaining. I only had 2 quests glitch on me! I really enjoyed every second of this game, the week off I took was well worth it! And I discovered the singer Aurora :) Very well made video!!
I got into the series late which was a blessing because i got to binge play the entire trilogy with the new endings. Then i was hyped for Andromeda. Loved the game so much, i platinum it. With that said, no real Mass Effect fan can call this a bad or disappointing game by any means.
- Iconic Mass Effect Paragon & Renegade dialogue System (Removed) - RPG Combat Class system that adds replay-value to the game (Removed, All Classes Available) - Squad customization and control over their abilities (Removed) - RPG Loyalty missions that dictate the Finale and fate of your Squad (Removed) - Side Missions, War Assets & Resources that impacted the Finale of the story (Removed, Pointless) - Enemy variety and Alien diversity (Removed) Conclusion = "no real Mass Effect fan can call this bad or disappointing"
Just finished the mass effect legendary edition and just couldn't get enough of the lore and the amazing mass effect world, so I think I'm going to get Andromeda.
This video deserves way more views. I think you absolutely nailed it. So many reviewers it seem to jump on the hate bandwagon on the animations etc. and overlooked all the good things Andromeda did. I’m willing to admit Andromeda definitely had its flaws and I hope BioWare learns from them. But overall the hate went way overboard. The game was honestly pretty good out side its issues. And can be salvaged with a successful sequel. It would be such a waste to completely ditch Andromeda. I love Shepard’s trilogy as much as the next mass effect fan. But I’ve accepted his story is over and it’s time move on to something new for the franchise and Andromeda did exactly that. It took risks and went back to more of its RPG roots which was so nice. The crew was actually pretty decent for them just having one game. More games could definitely expand and improve. I hope BioWare and Casey Hudson pick Andromeda up again and give it a second chance. Andromeda definitely deserves a second chance.
I understand for many Mass Effect fans, Andromeda is a mixed bag, but it is still a cherished Mass Effect game to me and there is still a lot to offer going forward in Andromeda. I think Mass Effect Universe is big enough to branch of into many series simultaneously - ME Milky Way, Andromeda, playing as different aliens - Asari, Turians, Salarian, Batarian, Geth, Angarian... RPG will be the main core cannon genre there can RTS, TPS, Adventure, FPS, space simulation spin offs.
Not so shocking but predictably disappointing that so few people watched this compared to all the negative videos out there. I think this was an excellent deconstruction of the story and a really accurate review of the gameplay (which is excellent). I never saw the really bizarre animations that fueled so much of the hate for this game and the endless parody vids we saw out there. It just makes me me mad all over again at the haters, but also at the QA folks who let the game ship with those initial defects. Thanks for putting this great video together
I have played the original trilogy, and i knew that shepard's story ended then and there with the ending of 3, so when i heard about andromeda, i really did not have any expectations, and that's what allowed me to actually enjoy whatever the game has to actually offer
@@bruhbroham8760 well my Sheppard is still alive. Anyway, I agree, I waited like a sane person until it dropped to like 20 bucks and played it, I created my own character and throughly enjoyed it.
@@bruhbroham8760 That's cool, trilogy ended, doesn't mean you change the fucking game so much its not even the same type of game any more. People didnt play mass effect for combat, they played it for the story. Andromeda has that mixed up, better combat, way worse story and writing. IF you where to be given 2 games , MAss effect 2 and andromeda which one would you want to play, id say people would pick ME2 in a heartbeat. Andromeda was a massive downgrade for the Franchise and doesn't even hold up to ME2 that was made 7 fucking years before it.
Loved this game, always thought the criticism it faced was because people were comparing it to the entire first trilogy when it was actually just a great game and introduction to new arc.
@@biscuit2075 I am currently n the second playthrough. Played once immediately after release but didn't find any gamebreaking bugs or anything. It was okay, story can be improved, bad guys fell flat etc. But the gameplay kept me playing. Love it so far, with many mods installed lol
I quite enjoyed. My merry band, me as Stephanie Ryder knowing full well I was well over my head and not only dealing with the loss of my father but potentially losing my brother in one breath. It's basically trial by fire meets tomb raiding meets diplomacy meets discovery. I'm still sad we won't get a continuation or save the additional arcs, but I am glad of the time I had on the Tempest.
When I played it I felt like it had a lot of potential, but that it left me feeling flat in the end. The combat was a lot of fun, more fun than the other games in my opinion. The dialogue was terrific as well. In these aspects, I felt like this game was similar to DA2, as those were my favorite aspects of DA2. Also, like DA2, I found myself feeling like "If only they had a little more time or budget". I felt more like this with the plot. At the end, it just felt like they left too many strings were left untied. I expect some to plots to be left open simply for saga purposes, but it just felt like they had too much going on and suddenly, as you are really engaging into things it suddenly just...stops. Just as it is getting good, the end gets rushed and leaves a lack of closure on just about anything. Finally, of all the Bioware games I have ever played, I felt less interested in the companions than any of them. I just... I don't know... couldn't get into them. All that said, I hope Bioware adds to what they laid down with Andromeda. It was far from being my favorite Bioware game, but even still, the story has tremendous potential. I look forward to seeing them expand on where Andromeda promised, but came up a bit short.
Just finished a full play-through and I’m honestly baffled at how much hate this game gets. Certain criticisms about filler content & lackluster dialogue are warranted, but Andromeda is still a great game. Sucks that we will never see a sequel.
In 5 years people will be baffled on why people hate Cyberpunk 2077 and will be calling it a great game just as you are. And I understand people love this game but I hope it never gets a sequel same as Anthem or the Disney Starwars Trilogy.
I feel like most of the bad press was the result of a tactic a lot of tabloids employ. Sensationalism. They rode off the back of the supposed downfall of a series and actually killed a good game just to draw attention to their channels
A lot of UA-camrs do that now I don't mind constructive criticism of games but channels now will just throw out videos for views and likes and just bash games.
Sun Breaker33 Yeah pretty much. Often the criticism holds no merit or feedback towards the devs. Just pure hatred for the development of the game. Leading to threats that are harsh and unwarranted.
Its nice to see the people out there who appreciate this game like I do for what it does have to offer. Not only Woodaba but the people in the comments also. So Kudos Woodaba for making this video that highlights the things that we love about Mass Effect Andromeda.
ME Andromeda is a good game now after patches that fixed early glitches and with several nexus mods it is actually quite nice to look at. The shooting is IMHO best in the series (as told in the video) - it is difficult to return to ME2 or ME3 (not even mentioning ME1) without jumps, dodges and combining of skills from different archetypes.
There are lots of us.. but we get shouted down. One post about loving it will get 10 posts from the same person saying how bad it was. I am now playing ME2LE and it pails in comparison. yes the dark dystopian stuff is cool. MEA was very optimistic. But it is a game or lab experiement when there is one clear path with bread crumbs and cheese at teh end over and over?
I liked the idea of exploring with the new races and planets. The tempest was a great ship and the crew were fun in that they broke molds. I loved the idea of the krogan were tired of brawn over brain. All turians don't want military life. Not all asari acted like wanna be lotr elves. It wasn't mass effect...it was Andromeda. And that's why the hated it
@@silvervase of course it is Mass Effects. Just a new story with a different take on things. Think about it, who is the most likely to sign up for a one way trip to a new home. Those who love the status quo, or those looking for a different path. Thus these are possibly the members of each race that got shouted down when they suggested something different.
I loved Andromeda, which is why the cancellation of the Quarian DLC and the abandonment by EA hurt so much. I do understand the dialogue complaints and you can tell it was a new writing team...but overall I had a blast and I did connect with most of the characters. I appreciate you giving this game a good shake. A little positivity never hurt. I will say my experience was colored by playing it a month after release when much of it had been patched. The only bug I ran across was the EOS crafting mission won't complete one. And that got patched before I beat the game.
I know I'm late to the party here, but it's nice to see a positive perspective in the sea of negativity surrounding this game. I myself enjoyed the game. It wasn't what I was expecting or hoping for, but I don't necessarily think it was bad either. As you stated in the video, the combat was hands down the best in any Mass Effect game. The profile system along with mixing and matching different skill was a lot of fun. The facial animations and some of the glitches were a little off putting, but they weren't a deal breaker for me. I think Bioware even patched a lot of it up since release. To me the story and characters were a mixed bag at best. A new team of characters and protagonist would be tough if not impossible to live up to Shepard and his crew from the culmination of a three game saga. However, you did mention about the family ties of Ryder and how they helped sculpt the personality more so than Shepard ever did. Also I never really considered the whole analogy of the colonialism vs refugee idea that you put forth, that was really well thought out. All in all I really appreciate the effort put into this video. It helped shed some light on areas and ideas of the game that others really haven't spoken about. The whole "Secretly Good" caught my attention and was what prompted me to click on the video, and I'm glad I did. Liked and subscribed. Kudos. You've earned it. I hope your channel prospers and grows. I look forward to other videos like these down the road in due time with other titles out there. Take care and have a good day.
I will mirror what many others have said; Thank you for doing this. As someone who enjoyed the game, it's good to see someone who gives it's praise worthy aspects actual praise and who isn't just swept along by the thought storm that is the bad reviews/memes that are based on a few glitches in the graphics - Ones that were actually patched further in.
What a greaf and eloquent video. You captured my thoughts perfectly, particularly with the complexity of its story. And also another pet peeve of mine is people saying that the characters were terrible, when in fact, for a first game, were much more engaging and fleshed out than most of the ME1 cast.
I just bought this game because it was only $10 and a friend told me it was better than the common opinion would have you believe. I'm still in the beginning but I was shocked how much I enjoyed Andromeda. I thought I was supposed to hate this game? It's a real shame it got so much negative press because I really do wish for DLC and a continuation of this story. Maybe after the legacy addition of the trilogy they will revisit andromeda.
I’m glad there is a community that likes this game. I enjoy it and never let the negativity jade my enjoyment with Andromeda, haven’t completed it yet but I’ve started over a couple times on PS4 and PC and happy to always come back to Andromeda. Lots of potential. Thinking about actually owning the game instead of subbing to Origin Access.
The more I hear people trash the game, the more I want to debate them to death. Anyone can make things look negative, they just need to say they don't like it, make a funny/angry/condescending voice and tell it's objectively bad. I know the Mass Effect Franchise on an unhealthy level, I can tear holes in the lore like nobody's business, I can "prove" that every game of the trilogy is just bad and uninspired, any fan can. Andromeda is one hell of a game, a great adventure full of humor, discovery, mysteries, and great characters. It's what Mass Effect was meant to be before the OT got overwhelmed by their own plot, and adventure became politics and shooting things.
It's full of plotholes, writting is seriously weak, dialogues feels like fanfics, gameplay lost half its features, and it's opinions ? More like you're trying to looks special defending a rushed rebooted and untested game. 5 years for this is an insult to the franchise AND its fans. It's more than opinions here, it's actually facts. Plotholes are beyond opinions, bugs are beyond opinions, bad level designs are beyind opinions, noobish writting too. It's so embarassing seeing all these white knights approving bioware terrible decisions. You pay for shit and say thank you. xD I see no reason for them to stop producing shit, right ?
@@zhongliimpact6220 The terrible writting and plot holes in the other games didn't seem to bother you that much. As for the quality of Andromeda, please, tell me which plot hole you are talking about.
I got the game at launch but only played a little bit - then patiently waited until the 1.10 patch. By that stage most of the bugs and glitches were gone and i ended up loving it and putting in over 100 hours... I was bummed when they cancelled the DLC and i doubt now we get a sequel unfortunatly... Although Bioware have said they are in early dev with a new ME so lets hope for the best... More ME is always a good thing!
I think the people hating on it want what the former games in the series did. I never played them as I´m on ps4. I picked up this game without reading any reviews and was shocked when I read the comments. It´s the same with people hating on Fallout 4. For me thats the best one in the series. Sure there is no choice and consequence but all the added options are so much better. This game is amazing and I absolutely love it. The abilities, the builds, the weapons, the way it looks, the size. The story, I love it all. One of the best games in my collection and I have pretty much all of them.
This video deserved 2.8 million views, not 2.8 thousand. I totally agree with you, I especially love the overhauled conversation system that lets you add a lot more flavour to your character and actually makes you think about what you want to say, rather than just picking binary choices based on paragon/renegade. Also love the combat, it’s so much more fun than its ever been before!
A new ME game is in production from the main BioWare team, really hope its Andromeda 2. Also hope EA allow them to use a more friendly engine like Unreal Engine this time
I absolutely agree, Mass Effect Andromeda is an excellent game at least a 8.5 out if 10. One disclaimer is that I didn't pick the game up until about eighteen months after release and therefore all relevant game upgrade patches had already been applied; But I dare to say that if this game would have been released with a different title, instead of Mass Effect Andromeda, let's just say, Voyage to Andromeda, and if it had of launched with all postgame patches day one, it would have received at least an 8/10 review scores
Thank you so much for making this. Mass Effect is my favourite fiction franchise of all time. I played Andromeda at release, and love it to bits. Sure, it has its problems (like they all did), but it's still a great game imo, worthy of bearing the Mass Effect name. If this video convinces just one person to give the game a try, then you've done a great thing.
I say the same thing all the time. Mass Effect is my favorite piece of sci-fi fiction out there. The world building is unmatched in my opinion. I was a huge mass effect fan before I even touched any of the games. At the time of release for ME1 and also ME2 I didn't have a compatible console. But all my friends did and they were all obsessed so I kinda became a fan vicariously through them. I found it so fascinating. It was the first time in my life where the lore of a videogame hooked me on the same level of my favorite films and books. I got so hooked and I hadn't even played the game yet. And I also loved Andromeda. Partly because I was just happy they found a way to make more mass effect. ME3s ending was so final with ramifications so massive I remember thinking "damn that's a wrap on mass effect. What are they gonna do? More it to an entirely different galaxy?!"... Yes... They did exactly that.
Mass effect Andromeda was my first entry into the Mass effect series and I absolutely loved this game. Sure it got repetitive or annoying but I ignored it and focused on what the game was and found a world full of wonder, an amazing team, great character, amazing story and more. I love Mass effect Andromeda and I am planning on buying the trilogy pack to play the other Mass effect games. But for now Mass effect Andromeda will be my number 1
Thanks for the video, I bought this on day 1 as I love ME, I even thought the ending of Mass Effect 3 was EPIC as I took the final assault mission in London to be a very long ending / playable cutscene, I wasn't all that bothered about the 3 'choices' to be honest. I REALLY enjoyed ME: Andromeda because it gave me the feeling of 'exploration', of freedom, of discovery. I didn't have awful animation issues though and I guess being a slightly older gamer I'm not hugely fussed about the face animations, they vaguely worked and didn't really take me out of the game.
Bought this day one, played it for a couple of hours and then put it down not wanting to play anymore. Fast forward to last week, 30+ hours in and loving it.
Wait until you meet some of the ME1LE glitches. Standing in a tram unable to move without restarting the game.. OR the endless drop out the bottom of an elevator shaft because the elevator was not where it should be after die and resume moment. ME1LE way more glitchy than MEA, but I liked both better than ME2. ME2 has terrible game and weapons system compared to even ME1, and I have a huge crew, but really you figure out who your favorites are and everyone stays on the Normandy gaining free XP incase you want them once later.
Andromeda is absolutely secretly good. I played through the first time recently and loved it. My buddy saw me playing and had played when it first came out with all the glitches. He bought it again and has been obsessed with it. (No glitches either).
I noticed that when the Archon is at Meridian he is smiling in some cutscenes. I liked seeing that he had a degree of emotions. I could actually tell what he was thinking at that moment.

Best ME Andromeda vid on UA-cam... it took me a long time to finally play Andromeda and I was actually pleasantly surprised and agree with you that its secretly good:) great job
How do you not have more likes and followers? This video was amazing and hit everything perfectly. You even had me nearly tearing up by the end. God damn. One hell of a good job my man.
Just finished the game and I quite liked it! More than some of the original trilogy actually. The ONE thing that truly did annoy me/hamper the sense of immersion was the facial animations though, even after the patches.
Andromeda was great. Not quite as good as the trilogy, but still really good, including well written and good characters. Main story was a bit lackluster if viewed as a standalone game, Kett felt more like a front race than the real main enemy. I was hoping part 2 and 3 would have something deeper and more ancient in store. But it had plenty of interesting and meaningful side missions, including the ark missions, the loyalty missions and securing planets. The ship was awesome, great ”home base”, walking and talking with the crew was great, just like the trilogy. Game mechanics greats. UI and RPG system was great. Overall a really good game. Note: I played only the fully patched version, so I never saw the weird facial animations or bugs while playing.
This video is fantastic. VERY well done. Your opinions completely mirror my own. This really deserves more views. Youve got my sub and I look forward to checking out more of your content.
Your point about how Alec is like the original trilogy and our character is like Andromeda is really profound. There’s a core of a really good game in Andromeda, but it only really shines (I’ve found) in New Game + when you’ve got all your favourite skills and mods figured out and can skip a lot of the side quests. My dream is a reboot of the original trilogy with the content and performances of the originals and the skills and highly fluid combat of Andromeda ... but I’m not holding my breath
I finished Andromeda last night with 120hrs. Loved every minute. Just a few minor bugs. Had a blast and the ending was epic. Proper Mass Effect game in my book.
This game definitely deserves more credit than it got. I'm working through a 3rd playthrough to get a platinum! I hope they come back to this story and finish it!
It could have been the best in the series...had a completely different group been the Devs. Some of what was good about it was just typical stuff you find in any other game. The problem is that this group that made it, didn't seem to understand what made the first three so good. The decisions did not carry the weight they did in the first game. Paragon and Renegade allowed for a lot of replayability, as did the classes. Why play Soldier when I can use the same weapons, and have biotics, and tech, etc... The writing was way better in the first three. Shepard made way more sense than Ryder. Ryder made no sense at all. None. Was not well thought out at all, and this started with Dad being the only pathfinder. Yeah, sure...you are only going to take one pathfinder to a whole new galaxy. Sure, if it's a non-critical role...maybe...but not a super critical role like a pathfinder. Oh...but wait...there are no paths to find. You are late to the party.
@@imsneaky they definitely dropped the ball when they put a team in charge that had little to no knowledge of the series. Then the lack of support after the negative response kind of killed the game. Almost like they were trying to make it fail. For all its flaws it was a good game, most issues could be fixed with patches or dlc. It's sad they just shut the whole project down when other games have had worse feedback and they are focusing on it to make it better. The dlc introducing the other arcs would have been fantastic and inwas hyped for it, but it'll never be.
19:57 while the Archon is generic, he has 2 things that make him a bit more nuanced not only from the generic bad guy character but also the Kett Empire, his interest in the Remnant tech is his primary focus which is the exact opposite of his Empire which focuses on conversion, his actions reflects the curiosity and exploratory themes of the story, and his disregard for the Kett's mission to focus on researching the Remnant to the point where his second in command the Primus and their superiors are highly suspicious and worried about what the Archon is trying to do.
Having been someone who was really frustrated with MEA, I see now that giving them the chance to make a sequel would have been the right way to go. They could have fixed things in MEA2. Now we will never know.
Andromeda is an amazing game. I enjoyed it, even though the story isn’t as great as the trilogy, they still did a fine job. I don’t care what the internet thinks 😂
Andromeda was a great game that was rushed. It paid the price of expectation. If they'd delayed it's release to improve dialogue and iron out the bugs it would have been a success. I love the combat, the skills and equipment systems. The storyline has so much potential. I hope we haven't seen the last of Andromeda, but next time, I hope they take their time to get it right. It was very close. Maybe more worlds to explore, even ones found to be unsuitable for habitation.
I'm only 15~ minutes in so it's too early to say whether you've persuaded me from my dislike of the game. However, I'm surprised how well put together the video is for an apparent first-timer. Kudos. Also, your use of the Galatarium theme from Tales from the Borderlands earns you an automatic thumbs-up from me.
Never had any issues with game such as graphics or glitches. I think why people are having issues actleast on PC version is due to outdated hardware and software or even playing on higher settings than you system can handle. Then of course its going to crap out and not be good for you. Like i said i played it on my PC and i upgraded it before i got the game so i wouldn't have problems. Now with consoles i dont know that could be mess-ups by the devs. But i never felt this game should have never had horrible reviews. To this day i still player over and over because to me i just like how you can adapt your character to just about any situation. Hopefully there will be another MEA in the future, because i love the Mass Effect franchise and will always enjoy it.
Honestly, Mass Effect Andromeda is my favorite Mass Effect game. The characters are more relatable. Instead of being caricatures of their species, they are actually unique and supercede racial expectations. Peebee is a perfect example. Where Liara was a quintessential Asari by ME3, Peebee is NOT what we imagine an Asari to be, and I find that far more interesting. The gameplay is great, the story is great, and the visuals (when not having errors) are actually phenomenal. I've loved the game since day one.
Your breakdown and analysis of the game and the entire mass effect franchise was truly on point and inspiring. I personally think that with insight and foreign, Andromada can become an entire new series on it's own.
Andromeda is an underrated & under-appreciated game. It's not fair to compare it to the original trilogy. It's a different game with a different story & characters. Ryder is a snot-nosed, inexperienced brat as opposed to Shepard - if they ever continue the Andromeda storyline then ideally we'll get to see Ryder become more of a battle hardened & strong leader.
Dude I found this game at family dollar a couple months back for $5.00 had played the 1st and the 3rd couldn’t really get into em.(I play Gears) But this I haven’t been able to put it down kinda felt bad for not knowing this was one of the best games ever 😂facial features who cares this is such a great game deserves so much more recognition and a sequel.
Great video man! I bought Andromeda after I saw a physical copy on amazon for like 12 dollars and decided fuck it, I'll give it a go. This was after the animation fixes and stuff (which didn't really even matter to me anyway) and I was completely surprised at how great this game is. I loved just about everything about it. The combat is easily the best part but I also liked the story, characters, and I believe it definitely is "good sci fi" lol. I'd easily give this game a 9.5/10 and it was a welcomed addition to one of my favorite video game series of all time. Thanks for taking the time to make this video! P.S. the only bug I encountered in like 70 hours was an autosave bug that made some of the recent autosaves un-loadable after you died but I liked the game so much I gladly replayed earlier saves to get to where I was lol
Why couldn't they just use the default shepard to that N7 guy. That would've made it 10x better. Like bringing back hawk in DA:I But I'm open minded and I understand all of your point in the video. And changed my mind into trying out the game. Edit:I'm an Idiot. The N7 guy is I think their (MC/Ryder) Dad. I think changing the cast into shepards will ruin shepard's character, because of how many people have different love interests in their game.
@@C-KRET pathetic
@@josepharrington8391 fuck yo dumb ass.
"...memorable antagonists like Saren, Casey Hudson and the Illusive Man" Mannnnnnnnnnn, I'm dead.
Allison James JUST heard that... what did he mean about Casey Hudson as an antagonist? That went over my head a bit.
Who is Casey Hudson btw? I played this game back when it got released, but I don't remember a name other than Ryder :D So it's that memorable :D

So much of the andromeda hate comes from the early bugs that aren’t even there anymore. This game is genuinely good, and it sucks that most people never even gave it a chance.
Picked up this game for $5 while Christmas shopping for others at GameStop and wow. I’m like 50hrs in and yeah... I’m honestly loving it!
play the original trilogy then tell me you love this game
@@dawgzofwar6674Love the trilogy, love Andromeda. We are many who feel that way, we just might be less loud than a lot of the critics.

@@razvanmoisescu7193 If they give this game a sequel I'm done. Give me back my damn franchise!
butterpastor No, it’s not awful.
They all have shit dialogue.
this actually changed my mind.. after 2 years. well done bro, gonna play the game with a modified mindset now :)
👊☺️
Welcome to the real life Initiative hermano.
Modify the game too, much better that way.
@@Edridx I've played the original trilogy multiple times, but actually I like Andromeda.
Honestly this deserves more views, you're one of the few that don't reject something based on what others think and make conclusions by yourself, you give us your opinion about the game and reinforce it with facts and not just like "The old games were better" excuse, used for many(not all) the people arguing about it, I understand the game isn't for everyone though
I bought this game like a year ago but it's still sealed, maybe because the bad things I heard about it, I'll give it a try now that I have seen this well made critic

So did you try it yet? If so, are you liking it?
if htis game had a great story like the trilogy then the technical issues etc wouldn't have mattered but it didnt
The idea that people who dont like it cant make their own decisions is absurd. It's just a shitty game, people played it, it sucked, the end.
U rly should its rhe best game in the series imo story is meh but so was the story in the last 2 entries other then that they combined and improbed the best oarts of the series
Actually in ME3 if you choose the origin where Shepard’s family was in the Alliance, their mother would call you at some point in the game
I really love a lot of what they did with Andromeda. There is tons of potential for a sequel.
I mean apart from lack of story. Or a good one
@@scratchem5025 yeah I'd have to agree with you on that
scratchem It was THE FIRST EPISODE you dullard! The end to the first trilogy was cak, but everybody forgets that.
you must be a sjw then ! omg !
Lol, you have no motherfucking refeence if you never played the previous games.
I really liked the game, the only thing I hated was that there wasn't any DLC to continue all the lose ends.
There's no secret here, actually. Other than the final boss feeling more like a mini-boss, the game itself was absolutely incredible.
I’ve just bought the game and it looks like i will enjoy it.
I loved the combat and the worlds looked great i never had a problem with the game as far as glitches and dlc never should've been scrapped there's alot of potential here and dlc could've made andromeda great
I just skip the cutscenes
I managed to make a female Ryder that actually looked human, it is possible. There are problems with the game and they need fixed in a sequel. The game is an alright step for a new story and new team imo, just that it needs to be done great from this point on.
@@someanimelover8602 There will be no sequel for MEA. But they just announced the remaster for the original trilogy.

Shame.
Definitely. If they went the No Man's Sky path, it could have been a great game.
It could of been the next no man's sky for sure but that's ea for you
It’s hard to only blame EA for pulling the plug, when the fans wanted to see the game go down just as bad
It makes me sad too. I really was reminded of ME1 from Andromeda in the potential to build something cool.
This game was raped and crusafied.
Agreed.
From all those back in the Milky Way, I'm home, and though I've always had a family worth dying for, Now I have a family worth living for. (P.S.If they did release a sequal, I'd preorder it, so long as it continues with MY team on MY Tempest!)
Same hope they do a sequel to me andromeda has by far the best gameplay of the entire franchise probably the best 3rd person shooter imho
You sir just confirmed what I've been wanting to do for a long time and that's buying Mass Effect Andromeda. Thank you.
Do it lol! If you haven't played inquisition I suggest that as well people bashed on that game at launch
Oh no this game is much worse than Dragon Age Inquisition. Trust my $60 preorder and 150 hours.

I hope in the next mass effect we can change the look of the ship and it's design
I just finished the main story .. and I loved it , I also love how you can continue to play the game after the main story and go back and do all the other missions , you skipped along the way etc.. awesome stuff and wins my award for best looking game of all time!! The lighting in this game is incredible, as is the sound / music / FX
I agree
Thank god someone who can make up his own unbiased opinion ... While the game was too buggy at launch , the amount of hate it got is absurd .. thank you sir for trying at least to show the games merits
From what I gathered was that was why people were so pissed. The game had potential but EA kicked it out the door before it was ready.
People didn't hate it just because some buggy animations, people hated it because it was poorly written, poorly voice acted, full of plot holes and just overall not a very good game. ME games are heavily character and story driven and when the characters and story sucks, people dont like it.
@@AkaRystik still not a bad game though
@@AkaRystik You need to redefine what you consider bad writing and poor voice acting. I shudder to think what you consider good writing.
@@RavenL1337 And yet none of the things mean that MEA is a bad.
As a big ME fan who played trough the whole trilogy like 20 times.. I'd give ME Andromeda about a 7.5/10.

I completely agree with you. I really hope the next Mass Effect game is a sequel to Andromeda
Please don’t give them any ideas.
@@RavenL1337 MEA definitely wasn't shitty.
I understand for many Mass Effect fans, Andromeda is a mixed bag, but it is still a cherished Mass Effect game to me and there is still a lot to offer going forward in Andromeda.
I think Mass Effect Universe is big enough to branch of into many series simultaneously -
ME Milky Way, Andromeda, playing as different aliens - Asari, Turians, Salarian, Batarian, Geth, Angarian...
RPG will be the main core cannon genre
there can RTS, TPS, Adventure, FPS, space simulation spin offs.
Because it fucking sucked, people like this guy just have low standards.
If a man is to enjoy games, he should not have overly inflated standards should he
I have played the original trilogy, and i knew that shepard's story ended then and there with the ending of 3, so when i heard about andromeda, i really did not have any expectations, and that's what allowed me to actually enjoy whatever the game has to actually offer

@@stevealston6664 finally, i really liked it too. But the first time i played it was after the patches so all i remember about it is awsomeness
"(...) antagonists like Saren, Casey Hudson, and the Illusive man(...)" LOL
A lot of UA-camrs do that now I don't mind constructive criticism of games but channels now will just throw out videos for views and likes and just bash games.
gerghgh herb UA-camrs do this as well. So much so that this toxic behavior is now seen more often in the gaming community then anything else.
Sun Breaker33 Yeah pretty much. Often the criticism holds no merit or feedback towards the devs. Just pure hatred for the development of the game. Leading to threats that are harsh and unwarranted.
A hatchet job was done by critics and fanbois.

FINALLY, someone else who really liked andromeda!
I loved it!!
And that's why the hated it
@@KEWords honestly I kind of wish we had the combat system of MEA in MELE. I enjoyed the combat system the most in MEA
I will mirror what many others have said;
Thank you for doing this. As someone who enjoyed the game, it's good to see someone who gives it's praise worthy aspects actual praise and who isn't just swept along by the thought storm that is the bad reviews/memes that are based on a few glitches in the graphics - Ones that were actually patched further in.
Nice video! I had a lot of fun with this game, loved the use of profiles on the go, combat felt great.
For me Andromeda should focus more on the exploration and discovery side since its a new galaxy.
Great video. I especially loved how you broke down the parallels with Alec Ryder and the original trilogy.

The best thing this game has done is it gave us a female turian to romance.
I just hate that the game was judged harshly out the door. And most of, if not all the complaints were completely unfair.
I absolutely love Mass Effect Andromeda I wish they continued the story and the way they ended it they can't just leave the way they did
A new ME game is in production from the main BioWare team, really hope its Andromeda 2.
I think this game truly deserves another chance.
I finally got around to playing this about 9 months ago, and a few glitches aside, loved it.
(No glitches either).
i just found out there are more people that are loving this game :)
11:42 I think the biggest issue is that there are not that many Milky Way research scanables unlike Andromeda and Remnant
I loved the game and story line. Just wish it got the dlc for the rest of the arks.

_I hope they come back to this story and finish it!_
Same!
Me too.
Dude I found this game at family dollar a couple months back for $5.00 had played the 1st and the 3rd couldn’t really get into em.(I play Gears) But this I haven’t been able to put it down kinda felt bad for not knowing this was one of the best games ever 😂facial features who cares this is such a great game deserves so much more recognition and a sequel.
when i got this game most of the initial horros were gone. the dialogs was somewhat flat, but it is a good game. loved it
I've completed that entire game and let me tell you it's hard but fun
You are quite clever and good at this. You've earned a subscriber. Please don't stop making videos.
Like bringing back hawk in DA:I
But I'm open minded and I understand all of your point in the video. And changed my mind into trying out the game.
Edit:I'm an Idiot. The N7 guy is I think their (MC/Ryder) Dad. I think changing the cast into shepards will ruin shepard's character, because of how many people have different love interests in their game.
